I didn't even know you can move the plane... I came for the sphere but I ended up learning a few other things! Also, I like the chill classical music in the background. It is not too loud, not too quiet. Good video, thanks a lot!
Good video. One tip, if you need to flip the sketch around you can click on the sketch in the tree then in the Data tab under Attachment find Map Reversed and set to True.
Fantastic Job! Your FreeCAD videos are are the very best that I have seen (and I have viewed many, many). The most common complaints that I have against FreeCAD videos made by others are: speaking too fast, moving the mouse too fast, not previewing the objective of their video. Far too many videos show the mechanics of executing a function without demonstrating how or where they might implement it; consequently, the inexperienced user is left with…."well that’s ok, but where would I use this, why is it important?" . You have masterfully eliminated all of these with professionally created videos - thank you so very much.
Thank you! Yeah a few of these tips took days to figure out (and other videos out there don't show how to do certain things) so i'm happy i'm saving other people time trying to figure out some things. I do have other videos planned like how to correctly mesh custom bevel gears in FreeCAD. When i'm not so busy I plan to publish more. The major release of FreeCAD 1.0 is just around the corner so it'll be exciting to see what new things we can do with freeCAD!
Great explanation of how to schetch on the edge of somthing. I always just set it to sort of the edge with the offset. This is a much nicer way to do it as the datumplains wil follow if the size is changed on the sphere!
Thanks for the video. One big tip/request- It'd be hugely helpful if you speak every tool/value you click on or enter. For beginners like me actually doing the steps at the same time, it's very difficult to follow along when actions are said with their generic terms or when they required multiple steps but only one general one would be said. Some tutorials I can follow with hardly any rewinds or strict visuals, but this one I had to do so a lot and go back to see exactly what you clicked on many many times.
Those datum creations are mega picky on what is clicked on and in exactly what order, and mine didn't seem to auto-show or auto-set some values and such. My freecad wasn't behaving like this one and it took numerous tries to get the blasted attachment set correctly. I like added features as things progress but am finding freecad apparently changes core tools regularly and significantly. Some tutorials I have to look up what is the new/different tool to replace what is being demonstrated - and it can take longer than the video itself. I wish devs understood that really hurts the learning curve. Add and improve - don't scramble and rearrange.
FreeCAD definitely has much to improve. I agree it can be very frustrating to learn. It’s kind of the only purely open source solution at the moment that meets my needs, so I need to kind of work with it and understand that strange things may happen. For this problem specifically, I think part of the problem is that it sometimes doesn’t recalculate after every step.
Thank you. Great job. I prefer you stay with your mouse over a menu before clicking on it. It was rather hard to understand crucial parts. Also, more explanation would be welcomed.
@@David_11111 it is possible one of two things are happening. 1. It is trying to make the hole in the wrong direction. when you press the pocket button and see "pocket parameters" there is check mark called "reversed". check this box and the direction of the hole will go in the opposite direction. 2. the length is too short, try increasing this. If you continue to have issues maybe others are having the same issue and a video can be made.

Agreed w this comment 100%. I feel like a distinguished smooth brain watching this.

Thank you so much! I'll defiantly be using that trick going forward!
neat explanation!
That "nope" was truly gold!
Thanks!
Yeah I was like why isn't this working :)

I’ve been looking for this explanation for weeks! Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you very much for saying that, It means a lot!
Thanks for the video. Nice trick with a plane attached to the edge.
Thanks! Always glad to help!

@@LFANS2001 good point :)
Good video
Thank you!
Doesn't "Flip sides" flip to the other side of the datum plane?
I was waiting for someone to spot that :) Yes it has the same effect as rotating 180 degrees.
It's lovely you added music to your explanation, but it distracts me terribly.

Thank you for the input! I’ll keep this in mind for future videos :)
wonder if anyone can help :) how do you make a hole in a sphere, Think drawing knob on joystick thanks
Sure! For example, if you look at the video at @5:55 click on the "pocket" button and that will do it for you.
@@SierraApex yes but I fail on a sphere :(
hmm cant paste picture
