    I get your point however when it comes to a sound one likes in a pedal I think it’s worth the extra steps, I divert to a different path to control mine with my J48 Direct box, After recording the guitar or vocals I can tweak it any way I want this pedal is amazing when recording with it...

    I've had this pedal sitting in my closet for about a year and it's surprising me now. With thag said, this is Joey Landreth's signature pedal and I noticed how he doesn’t have tthe Golden Boy on his board anymore. Interesting stuff!

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  4 месяца назад

      Yeah, we all go through phases! I find that I can have an overdrive I love with one amp/guitar setup, and change one part of the equation and it doesn’t work for me anymore. And Joey loves to change things haha.

    The boost is the amp mode of the prism and the amp mode mosfet boost pedal that jackson audio also sells. The prism is the same boost, with a lot more versatility. You can get the same boost sounds out of it and more.

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  4 года назад

      Blair Switch Project Yeah, I’ve been tempted by the prism many times. In a perfect world, I can run my amp pretty hot and get my base drive tone from there, and sculpt with dirt pedals. When I can do that, I really only need a single overdrive and a fuzz. But since it’s not always a viable option, I keep multiple dirt pedals around 🤘🏻

    I had a different experience with mine... I feel that in the gain stage/cycling, mine didn’t have enough volume difference between stages, so I always leave it at the lowest stage b/c if feels the most open. I don’t use midi, I just use it as a regular drive and boost. I love it tho. Stacks well. Love ur vids.

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  4 года назад

      Yeah, I think the Golden Boy can work well as a “set it and forget it” pedal. I just had a problem with it being a $330 version of that... haha.
      Glad you like the videos man! More to come!

    • @RiggsTaylor

      J S Agreed. With people being paid for demos, there’s a side of it that always puts a positive spin on pedals even if they don’t like them. Which I totally understand being a “glass half full” type of guy, but flaws should be pointed out as well.

  • @geo5772
    @geo5772 2 года назад

    Have you explored the cabling options? Each side of the Golden Boy can be broken out into its own channel? A TRS cable can be used in the input and output channels of the GB and it splits out the effects as individual sides as separate effects. I use this same feature on the Protein. As to MIDI implementation I’ll have to look at that a bit more, but sending a group a CCs to achieve a particular preset is not that big of a deal with a good switcher like an RJM PBC 10 or 6X

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  2 года назад

      When I had it I never tried that! Definitely a cool option though.
      In regards to MIDI, it’s not that controlling the GB that way is difficult, but more so that you can’t control parameters like the tone knobs that bothered me. Yes, being able to turn sides on/off and change the gain cycling is helpful, but the presets would be more beneficial if you could have drastic EQ changes for certain sounds/using different guitars/etc.
      Still a great pedal!

  • @simonprittie

    Isn’t the Prism from JA the same as the boost circuit in the Golden Boy? Thought I heard that somewhere.

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  4 года назад +1

      Simon Prittie Sort of. On their website they say that the boost in the Golden Boy/Broken Arrow is “based on” the boost in the Prism. But they don’t have a standalone boost that has the 4 different EQ modes like the one found in the GB/BA.

    • @blairswitchproject2347
      @blairswitchproject2347 4 года назад +4

      The golden boy boost is one of three modes on the prism. The prism has the amp, clean, and color modes. The amp mode is many ppls fav, so they put it in the golden boy and the broken arrow. They also sell a mini version called “amp mode” that is a cheaper stand alone option. The other differences are that in the golden boy and broken arrow, you can choose between 4 EQ settings and adjust the vol/gain knob. On the prism, there is a treble and bass knob for EQ, and a three way toggle for low, med, or high gain, and the clean, amp, or color modes. If you love the boost, def check out the prism. It can be a boost, preamp, or gain pedal. I keep the golden boy at the front of my drive chain, and a prism at the end, so I have a boost on both ends.

  • @evandell8014
    @evandell8014 2 года назад +1

    So the boost side is a small portion of the jackson prism if your still like that boost style. I just wanted thought the prism sounded a little too brittle and geared towards worship style

    Gain cycling should have an impact on volume. Think about it: usually you want more gain you want to stick out a bit more. And I really don’t ever use any other gain mode than blue. So any difference between modes is of no importance. I think the pedals fantastic my only complaint is trying to pair it with a Tumnus is seems to react differently than I hope in either order, but each individually is amazing.

    Honestly, I have both the broken arrow midi and golden boy midi and I can’t really imagine using them without midi. I even use my chase bliss brothers midi. All controlled with my boss ES8. I use the Golden Boy for more rhythmic tones and broken arrow for lead tones and brothers for whatever else. If I didn’t have midi, I would have to agree with you. I love both pedals equally 🤙. Great vid bro!

      Nick Crawford Totally get that! I liked the Broken Arrow without midi, but not so much the Golden Boy. It would be really cool to see Jackson Audio expand their Midi capabilities to give them both functionality like the Brothers has, but Chase Bliss stuff is so advanced I doubt we will see it. Thanks for the kind words!

      Hi Nick! How you connect your GB and BA to your ES8? Do you need a special cable? And also, with the ES8 you have all the pedals functionality at you disposal? I have also the GB and BA that a love btw, and I’m planning to get a Midi Controller for be able to have all their potential. Do you have a video for the setup process? Thanks man

    • @nickrocker123
      @nickrocker123 3 года назад +2

      Josué Aguilar hey! Sorry for the late response. I use the midi box 4 by disaster area designs and connect them with a TRS cable. I connect the JA bloom, BA, GB, and chase bliss bro’s with the disaster area designs box.
      The boss ES 8 is super easy to use with the Jackson Audio pedals because they just use Control Changes. All the steps are on their website.
      The chase brothers is a little more complicated. But they have their videos up. Unfortunately I do not have a video but maybe soon I can put something up.

    In terms of MIDI is the broken arrow the same where MIDI doesnt recall EQ presets?

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  4 года назад +2

      Tim Young Yes. That’s the biggest shortcoming of Jackson Audio’s design. Limited MIDI is better than none, but the EQ is so powerful that having it controllable via MIDI would be great.

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  3 года назад +1

      Sort of! I ended up with the Swindler Effects Iron Drive, which is “technically” a tube screamer variant, but only the Si mode sounds/feels like a tubescreamer. The LED clipping mode is incredible. I made an impromptu demo of it because I like it so much- check out that video if you’re interested!

      @@RiggsTaylor I got mine yesterday. I haven't tried Midi yet... but as far as the pedal itself goes, I'm blown away. I've played many distortion and overdrive pedals before and this thing is amazing. The most impressive thing is the gain cycling and the amount of gain. Most overdrive pedals don't go very high. But this thing plays blues like a Plumes or an 808, but I cranked the gain up and dropped mids and played some metal through it and was like, "did I just get metal tones out of this thing." I'm in love.

      @RiggsTaylor  3 года назад

      @@PinchTune The Golden Boy definitely has more gain, and is my favorite of the two like I said in the video. I think the Golden Boy has a more useable gain range than the BA, being that it can do lower and higher gain well!
