One of the Best Les Paul’s Gibson EVER Made - 1974 Les Paul Custom!
This 1974 Les Paul Custom is one I'd happily take home from @truevintageguitar . Not too heavy and the price is perfect for a Kalamazoo, MI made Gibson!
As always, I sat down and hit record before really hashing out a full musical idea - so you get all my mistakes free of charge, and can hear where the guitar took me on my first impressions!

Aw shucks - thanks dude ❤️🔥
Love the tone.
Thanks man! Another Les Paul Custom coming soon 😎
@RiggsTaylor Your a very great guitar player, im just a novice player @ best. But my love for music and the guitar has been there my whole life. Of late I ve been fortunate enough to purchase some. My collection is going to reach # 10 by mid week with the latest addition of the EPIPHONE SG Classic in the Worn Cherry with P 90s. I do not have a LP Custom or Classic but my LP models include A Gibson LP Studio Plus, two EPIPHONE s. A 60s Standard and their version of a 1959 Standard in the Satin finish, comes with Gibson pots and closely recreated PAF wound Humbucker s . I m not bragging about my collection but only to say each guitar is exceptional in both quality in build , fit and finish and playability and each one possess s it's own beauty and character and tone. Keep up the good work.
@@billydworrell8259 thanks Billy! Quite a setup you’ve got - enjoy them!
Reminds me immediately of Steve Jones \m/
I’ll take it! Definitely went for an 80’s rock vibe.
What’s the difference to a 335?
Slightly smaller body - in between a Les Paul and 335 both sonically and physically!
It would have been nice to actually hear what the guitar sounds like without all the gain added...
That’s fair! Doing more clean sounds and dirty sounds in upcoming videos 🤘🏻
Bass up. Treble down. Youre welcome.
Sometimes that does the trick! Depending on the amp, turning up the bass can muddy the low end and make the mids less present. The low mids (~400-700hz) help with adding more “meat” to the sound without losing clarity. All depends on the rig of course!
Really nice review. Thanks!
Thank you! Be sure to subscribe for more 🤘🏻
nice sounding lp.
Not bad at all!
Man the Hazy is unreal! If i was a pro i'd have one
They’re so good man - worth saving for!
Way cool 😎! Keep on Rocking! 😊
Thanks man! A lot more to come!
ryan garcia just took a pause from ko-ing people and made the best suhr review on the internet....great playing
😂 I’ll take it! Thank you!
Woah cool
Thanks! Yeah, super cool instrument! Check out the full video if you haven’t 🤘🏻
Awesome sound my man, i wouldnt be able to guess the instrument you were playing had i not seen it.
It’s really rad! Thanks for the kind words!
Awesome video, I own a Strat and tossing up between a special or a 61 maestro. I’m leaning towards the SG for the humbuckers, or do you think the P90 is different enough sounding to a Stratocaster?
Man the p90 is a beast! Both great options, but the p90 wins by a small margin for me.
This video helped answer a few of my questions. I've always been an amp guy, but I have to go direct in these days, so I'm building a board with that in mind. I was concerned how it would take pedals, specifically dirt, and ease of use. I've heard great things with Tonex, but I want to avoid computers and downloads if possible.
The Tonex is great too - I want to get the small version (Tonex One) to keep in my backpack in case of emergencies. This is great if you want to avoid computers for sure!
I own a hand made Deluxe Reverb. It’s my favorite amp of all time, bar none. I thought A sounded better in every example except with fuzz, but I would happily have used A or B regardless. The fact I got it “wrong” and actually preferred the pedal blows my mind, but what a great thing to discover.
It’s amazing how good it is! My ‘67 isn’t going anywhere, but the Dream sounds killer!
@@RiggsTaylor and great playing too man, I’m going to rewatch and learn some of your riffs
@@jordan-c-bay ah man, too kind! Really appreciate the support!
Okay, Now I have to get one... Adding that to your quiver is a big +
Absolutely. Regrettably this one is sold, but I hope to get one!
The warranty is a marketing gimmick apparently.
It seems so 😅
I have two Fender Mandocasters that are pretty rare. They were made in Korea probably 20 years ago. One is an 8 string and the other is a 4 string. They are both kind of blue/green.
Awesome! They’re a lot of fun - hope to get one of my own someday.
The album ‘hi ho’ was dedicated to yo momma
😂😂
beautiful sounds!
Thanks so much! Had a ton of fun with this one!
Great
Thanks Tom!
I know this is an old thread, but as I get more into the UAD ecosystem, I keep digging these up. Great comparison and really shows just how good the UAD version is. But, I guessed it right LOL!. There two things that listening to this with decent cans revealed to my old ears: One is cleaner to me, but only by a hair. Two, the reverbs. The second one just had more of that springy kinda vibe happening, I think they call it "drip"??? I dunno. But again, fantastic comp, I can easily see myself picking one of these up soon.
Thanks man! Yeah, real spring is SO hard to get right. Let’s also keep in mind that (to me) the reissues sound VERY different from a real vintage Deluxe Reverb. They sound good, just different. I think UA did a great job with this line!
Fender? Kalamazoo?
Ironically he bought this from the original owner in Kalamazoo! The guitar was obviously made in California 😎
How does he feel 😏
I don’t understand the question 😂
@@RiggsTaylor Sorry, the meaning of the phrase was lost in translation (this is a meme) I think they only know him in Russia
@@Gleb_Ryzhakov haha, got it! Greetings from the US - thanks for watching 🤘🏻
This is NOT a standard Jet. This is an highly modded Jet that hounds fantastic.
Yeah, Elliot Easton had some cool tweaks, and the added piezo is wild!
I also recently got a vintera 60s jazzmaster and I be loving the sound. I feel like the sound it produces is beautifully warm and the guitar itself has a best body of all fenders guitars
Those are great guitars! The Jazzmaster is definitely a cool shape.
Whatever with the finish on the body
?
Seems like Pelican sucks when it comes to warranty.
Seems like it
First u2 song I ever heard and I was like 4 years old, made me a fan for life!
I heard it on one of those “Now That’s What I Call Music!” Compilation CD’s my mom had in the car, and it stuck!
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful weekend riggs also Canada day is Monday where I live ❤😊
Thank you - and awesome!
Wow. Total dishonest and shady. Everyone ban and quit purchasing Pelican. Buy Nanuk. Way better company. Way better made. Way better prices.
Yeah it was sketchy for sure. Heard great things about Nanuk!
Cool video and you got great tones from both pedals. Honestly I prefer Germanium for the reason you mentioned about the very beautiful clean up tone. I would be curious to hear you compare the Haze to another Germanium one. Even a Dunlop Mini (I have and like). It would be useful to hear that distinction. I bought a Smiley this week and jury's out for me right now on whether to keep or sell...
I would definitely love to do more comparisons with it! I’m hoping to get a few different models from a few different builders to do a video just like that. Probably more boutique stuff, but some of it more affordable!
@RiggsTaylor Thanks for the perfect comparison in different situations! I liked A the most and I was sure it was the real amp, so in the end was surprised how good Dream 65 is. btw, can you share your settings of the Dream? what cab and mod did you use in this video?
Thanks! No mod - greenback speaker. Bass and treble just below half, and the volume right around 9:00!
@@RiggsTaylor thank you!
Jeggings!
Everyone knows tone comes from the pants 👖
I'm very sad to say, my ears prefer the Isle of Tone Haze. I bought the Smiley when it was introduced. I also own, kingTone Mini Fuzz V2, with Si & Ge switch... That said, I'm not switching. As you mentioned in the preface to the comparison... The $🤑. Good on YOU, to go for it and take it on. Thank you for the share, video, research & trading up time costs, any malcontent isn't appreciating!
Thanks man! I’ve always wanted to try out the Kingtone miniFuzz- especially the new version!
You talk too much!!!!!
Feel free to fast forward 😎
Is there a way to make a profile without a performance and effects attached to it? Everytime I load a profile I made it loads all the effect blocks that were on it during the time of profiling
Yeah! You can disable/delete effects blocks in the editor.
I think one of the best uses for something like this would be running it through the effects loops of an amp or into a power amp and a cab. That would be my use. I love my Mesa mark iv but it doesn’t quite have a fender clean sound, but a lot of the saturation of tube sound for me comes from big clean headroom with a pushed power amp, so I’ll imagine that brings this pedal to life
Never hurts to have tubes in the signal chain! I bet it would sound great.
Sounds amazing!
Thanks man!
Killer!
Thanks man! A lot more to come - new video tomorrow!
Great cover of hold on loosely
I don’t think I know that song!
Do you recommend I run a separate reverb pedal or will the built-in reverb on the Dream do the job effectively?
If you just use a little bit of reverb normally, the Dream 65 can do that. If you like more ambient reverbs and being able to have more control, definitely get a reverb pedal!
But how! 🤯
Crazy right?!
But really how? Did you explain how you did that?
It uses a stereo cable from the factory to send one pickup to each amp - I labeled which side is which pickup in the video. I used a TRS (stereo) 1/4” cable and split it out using the El Capistan delay pedal to each amp!
@@RiggsTaylor 🤤
Yeh. These are great guitars. I am blessed to own a 1973 ES-355 and have really enjoyed it. When you plug one of these creatures into two amps, you will wonder why you ever bothered with mono guitars. And the Varitone makes them fab for playing variety music and Beatles/British Invasion stuff ...
Absolutely! Playing in mono live is normal and understandable, but playing in stereo is SO fun. Some people hate on the Varitone, but I dig it!
I really like the upstroke strum you use in a lot of your videos
Thanks man! Appreciate that 🤘🏻
I didn't know jim carrey could play guitar
😂 I’ll take it. I’d swap bank accounts with him!
can you change your title and put Roadrunner RR5TEG electric Guitar case - would help. this was hard to find. perhaps put a RR5teg in your tags - thanks
Great idea - will do!
