    It's very weird to me how these high quality videos get such little views. Honestly, even though I don't animate or something, seeing these different software being compared is great.
    It allows for a beginner to get a decent basic grasp, without having to spend hours and hours going "Which one is best for me????" Then they can go and search whichever one they like more in depth later.

    • @one23neo

      I think it’s probably because the video is still “fresh” but in a few days it’ll have more views.
      I agree with what you are saying, the comparisons help people make informed decisions & information we’re likely wouldn’t have come across

      Thank you very much for the feedback! We're really glad that you find it helpful. My team and I just wished we found content like this to help us get our feet wet before investing so much time (and sometimes lots of money) then find out later that it wasn't what we wanted x) so we thought of creating digestible bits of content based on our experience (and the artists we work with) in digital 2D art.

      It's amazing that you either don't see it a stolen content or you are paid to write "positive feedback". The videos is shit like of their vids so far. Just generic ramblings and wikipedia description over footage made by other people.

    • @blipitousblorporpous87

      @@voodooaudio9488 Why would I see this as stolen content, it's just a comparison video, it's not like they need to show original animation for it lol.
      Yes, it's not the most informative or detailed, but it's not supposed to be. It's just a simple comparison video for beginners, meant to help them get a feel for the softwares. Hence, why the "generic ramblings and Wikipedia descriptions," are fine, it saves time and if someone wants to do more research they can. No need to rain on the parade lmao.

    What's actually funny about Opentoonz X-sheet being vertical is, that's how all of my x-sheets were in college when studying Traditional Animation. Seems to me to be an homage to the original layout of the X-sheet

    • @sbrnAK
      @sbrnAK 3 месяца назад

      Dragonframe's layout, too. And since it's customizable, it's completely a non-issue. It's weird that reviewers keep bringing it up.

  • @FelixTheAnimator

    OpenToonz's vertical 'timeline' is a hark back to when X-sheets (exposure sheets) were on *paper*. So calling the horizontal timeline 'traditional' IRKS me.

  • @MienLeHoang
    @MienLeHoang 2 года назад +22

    to be fair, moho drawing tools don't support bitmap drawing as the other type like opentoonz (it used to be at 13, but not anymore with 13.5). Moho leans more on vector drawing, you can still achieve what you want, but need to be creative and adaptive with the software. The uniqueness of moho is in its bone system, which has some interesting features like 3d software- but for 2d. It makes rigging way more fun than usual :v

  • @rajeevprabhu6722
    @rajeevprabhu6722 2 года назад +12

    Great Tut! But you should have mentioned that Moho was earlier called 'Anime'. Which was once very popular. This software first introduced the rigging / skeleton / bones into 2D Animation software.

    • @michaelstone3463
      @michaelstone3463 8 месяцев назад +2

      It was originally called Moho, but after Lost Marble sold it, its name was changed to Anime Studio under E Frontier's ownership. Then it was sold to Smith Micro, and finally came back to Lost Marble, which reinstated its original name. So it can truly be said that Moho introduced its means then-unique method of puppet animation with bone-rigged vector animations. But there had been puppet animation before, and bones before. Moho assembled all these parts into a useful, complementary whole. But as an early user, I can tell you the UI then was horrible, there were many holes in its feature set. But it has grown and matured into a very professional and well-designed tool for animation.

    when you say "traditionally theyre horizontal timelines" ... before computers, long long long ago... timing was done on DOPE SHEETS which were vertical charts animators placed on the side of their drawing boards with bulldog clips. horizontal charts would have gone across the animation disc and typically they put millions of thumbnails up there as theres less room

    How can you say that OpenToonz is not friendly user, for each user things are different, for example, for me Moho is not friendly user, while OpenToonz it is, by the way OpenToonz timeline (x-Sheet) posted vertical is the way animation was done before computer animation came along. The pro way of animation at Disney, Warner Brothers, etc. was with the X-Sheet vertically, printed on paper, that's the reason why OpenToonz places it that way, because that's how professional animation is done. Cool review though.

    You can't have a competition without a winner, right? So, let's compare these two programs. OpenToonz is tailored for traditional frame-by-frame animation, giving you that classic feel. Its vertical timeline reflects the way animators worked in the past, honoring that legacy. On the other hand, Moho is more about vector graphic editing, which means painstakingly crafting every aspect of each character. It's a toss-up between doing things in one go versus the repetitive nature of frame-by-frame animation.
    Neither choice will magically make you a better artist or animator. It all boils down to your preferred style and workflow. OpenToonz shines for traditional animation, while Moho suits those looking for a quicker, more digital approach.
    In the context of frame-by-frame animation, OpenToonz comes out on top for its versatility. It offers a more modern, digital-friendly workflow compared to Moho's constraints with its bone tool rigging system. However, Moho wins if you need sophisticated vector graphic rigging capabilities, which OpenToonz lacks.
    Rather than declaring a winner, it's about finding what works best for you. Once you commit to a path, switching becomes increasingly difficult. Animation demands patience and dedication. If you're considering OpenToonz, sticking with it, especially as an open-source option, might be your best bet. Subscription fees for animation software can add up over time, particularly if you're working independently. It's a risk, especially if you encounter financial difficulties and can't afford to keep up with payments.
    In the end, whether you choose OpenToonz or Moho depends on your needs, preferences, and long-term plans in the animation industry.
