- Do you remember when you went to craft stores as a kid and your mom wouldn't buy you every craft kit you asked for because "we've got rocks and paint at home"? Me too, friend. Me too.
Today, we revisit a few of my childhood's forlorn memories to see if my mom ended up keeping me from any potential treasures, or saved me from getting a disappointing pet rock.

I'm so grateful that I get to occasionally work with brands I actually like to create sponsored videos. Their direct support helps keep this channel afloat in the ever unstable world of RUclips ad revenue. These videos will always be disclosed, of course, and I appreciate everyone's kind support for these partnerships. Royalty Soaps also participates in commission or discount affiliations, like Amazon or RewardStyle, as these opportunities become available, like Amazon and RewardStyle and while the money we make with these links isn't much, every little bit counts and once again, we really appreciate your support! I'm concerned that fairy's are using fairy wings in their potions.
Yes, came here to find this comment and click a like! Whose wings are they?? They shed them? Rip them off each other? Wings of the dead? They froze off when they went to Winter to visit their twin sisters?
and unicorn horns lol
I’m concerned that Lilly is a little bit jealous that she couldn’t make the fairy potions
Maybe fairies just shed their wings periodically... Like lizard skin 🤔🤔😝🧚
@@owfuckit let's hope... otherwise its all a bit.... dark
Rocks painted like strawberries are not just cute, they're useful! Put them in the garden next to your strawberry plant and birds will pick at the rocks. They learn that bright red objects hurt, so they leave your strawberries alone!
Katie, you do NOT have to apologize for having a super over-the-top sparkly Barbie phone case. If someone doesn't like it or thinks you're being childish, that's THEIR problem!
Exactly plus barbie is amazing ngl
Cobra Creates Seriously. It’s an adorable case.
I hate it when people say something is too childish for an adult.
I had a little twin stars one and now I have that pink liquid glitter case, get the nice ones!!
Having something be exactly what you want is classic adulthood.

@@RoyaltySoaps smart...
That makes sense
I thought the same about Moriah Elizabeth's and she said basically the same thing Katie just did. Moriah says it gives her the opportunity to decorate as she wants. Also, Katie, you should follow Moriah! You could totally get some fun soap inspiration from her! I want to see a Pickle, Cousin Derp and Georgie soap, please!
A clean, blank space is like a big canvas. Plus it's easier to find anything that gets lost.
I'm dying at the mom shade. Being an adult is just getting to buy and do all the things your parents wouldn't let you do.
My parents convinced me to get rid of my dollhouse and I regretted it ever since. I always found them on ebay, but didn't have the money. When I had the money, it was harder to find it. I finally bought it back a couple years ago and it's currently my daughters book case. Suck it mom and dad.
What did the doll house look like
If i was your daughter i would be os happy and play with it all day and not for a bookcase
@@GDisthename it's the little tikes Victorian dollhouse. It's blue, pink, and white. She's not even 2 yet, so if she's into dolls when she's older I'm sure she'll use it as such. Was just an easy way to use it in her room in the meantime.
I am sure our parents meant well, maybe they didn't have the money, maybe sometimes they thought they truly made the best choice (and I am sure, they must have been right in many instances, all parents and all childrens and their interactions summed up). That being said, I constantly get all the nice little stuff I loved as a child and couldn't get or wasn't allowed to is probably the most close to cosmic bliss I can be.
@@TheLastDigitalDragon oh, in my family it was totally mostly money. We weren't necessarily struggling, but we had 4 kids. I have to tell myself that I'm allowed to order an appetizer or dessert when we go out to eat and it's not a special occasion. I got a lot of the things that I wanted growing up, but there are always those white whales.
So, there is a whole huge painted rock community. You paint them, hide them around, others find them, grab them (& log them, I think), and move them to a new location.
Yes!! I was going to comment this but was looking to see if someone beat me to it. This is one of my favorite activities!
@@maddymay8014 we did it years ago for a Girl Scout event
@@IfersInklings that would be fun! My stepmom and I like to travel and do it everywhere we go. I recently introduced my boyfriend to it as well!
Confirmed. I found a rock with Bert&Ernie recently on my walk route.
Our little mountain town in western North Carolina, USA has done this. My best friend was really missing her mom one day, she had lost her battle with cancer years earlier. That morning, outside her store she found a painted strawberry rock. Her mom's favorite fruit was strawberries and it made her feel like her mom had stopped by to see the store and tell her she was proud of her daughter.
When Katie said she had to name the apothecary, I immediately said "Jennifer" not realizing what she really meant 😂😂😂😅😅
same hahah
I don’t get it 😅😭
I have a really cool 2000's soap design: those glow in the dark peel-n-stick sky, star, and galaxy things that go on the ceiling or walls. That would be a cool design!!!
Omg I would buy that so fast
This is the coolest idea ever! I had so many of those on my ceiling 🪐⭐🌠💫 Oh the nostalgia
See my house was the opposite I could have all the craft kits in the world that I wanted but I was never allowed to stick those things to my ceiling in my bedroom for fear they would rip off paint and my father would need to paint the ceiling
Oooo glow in the dark
Oooh yes I had so many of those on my ceiling I loved them so much!
Me: awe cute fairy kit.
Also me: be careful welcoming the fae into your life.
This was literally the first thing I thought too especially with the welcome potion I was like 😳
2:52 *I wonder why Lily gets so excited about stickers ...... Where does she get it from* ?
*Definitely not Katie* 😂
That's a silly question. What child isn't crazy about stickers (I suppose there are a few)? My sis and I had the entire door to our apartment covered in stickers. Sadly, they were removed when we were 10ish. All those memories and fading scratch-&-sniffs.
I don’t know why but watching a full grown adult woman happily play with kids craft kits without her child is the most funny and entertaining thing I have ever seen
I'm 55 and legit want that fairy kit now 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I teach troubled and struggling middle school boys and at the end of our rocks and minerals unit I gave them all smash your own geodes and we spent a whole afternoon breaking them open. It was so fun and the kids had a blast.
That's brilliant
What a fantastic idea.
Could get them making pretend poison potions, a lot of Harry Potter fans make potions and they look great. But the boys could make scary looking ones.
As a 30 yr old lady that bought a Lisa Frank calendar this year I'm totally ok with this
I am of the same age and need one lol. Where did you get it?
@@kat-napzzz Amazon!
I'm surprised they still make Lisa Frank. I haven't seen it in a long time.
I remember the lisa frank stuff!! Im 20 but i used to have stickers and stuff from her
There are SO MANY adults with over-the-top, extra deco phone cases, so there is no shame in that! There are entire small businesses built off of custom case design
Seeing her so excited over Craft kids she want it as a kid just makes me want to smile and hug someone
I want to be Katie's best friend!!
My hometown plays a game that everyone is in on and we hide our painted rocks for other people to find. Then we post it on Facebook with a hint of where they were hidden. I’m sure we’re not the only town that does it but it’s just special 😁
OMG you should totally do a fairy inspired soap theme. That would be so freaking cute
I’m here for this series, “From the 90’s That my Mom wouldn’t Buy Me.”
I love your bubbly personality and the fact that you’re not afraid to like whatever you want. Love you Katie💗 please make a cow soap
Please tell me what you have in mind for the cow soap- I am intrigued. My sister’s bedroom was “Cow jumped over the moon” themed when we were little so I’m on board!
Yes! Cow soap!!! I submitted a design for one in 2019 😭

Omg and a sheep and a chickeennn
I support any and all of these barnyard critter soap suggestions.
Quick tip for the fairy potions: add part baby oil so it doesn't dry out or grow moldy. It might work with witch hazel but I'm not sure.
Katie: This is probably the best craft kit I've ever done
NerdECrafter: In the *TRASH*
Did Jackie do the fairy potion kit? (I have not seen them all.)
@@nariu7times328 no but she did do a rock painting one 😊
@@katelillo1932 thanks! I love watching kit reviews :)
I think she'd actually approve of this one 😂
@@dawnthegoblin I think so too. It’s actually a really cool kit.
I love that fairy potions kit. You’re right it definitely could be used for imaginary play. Also it would be so easy to buy more supplies. I’ve seen tiny bottles like that at some dollar stores. Plus glitter can be bought there too.
This is so me 😭 buying all the toys I never got as a kid with my adult money 💖
Lol same
I'm going to do that but with comics.
Transformers and power rangers. Yep!
I always wanted the Candyland game and a lite brite. I have had to talk myself out of buying them several times. I did get a spirograph, though.
I got my 4 year old a barbie dream house cus I always wanted a barbie house growing up.
The fairy kit makers: let’s trick these children into inviting actual fae into their homes
I was gonna say this lmao
That's why her momma wouldn't let her have it 😆
"It's free real estate"
I’m glad somebody said it 😂
The fae can be ... perilous at times. I think the invitation should be amended to something like "All fairies of good intent and wishing only good on this household are invited in."
You’re allowed to like whatever at whatever age. People who say “well you’re 30 so um you can’t like this” is bs, since age is not necessarily restricted to interest. By the way, you’re case is adorable, I’m so jealous ;v;
I often wonder what these people think you’re “supposed” to like at certain ages, if in their opinion you’re not “allowed” to like X or Y. Like, no collectible china doll tea sets for you, get back to your accounting books, miss 25 year old!
people literally do this with every possible hobby or interest. unless you're in a gym staring at a blank wall, dying in front of a tv, or at work it's not an acceptable activity for adults. i guess needlepoint, or something.
lots of people choose hobbies like "being an alcoholic" and "meth" but we're over here catching shade for liking brightly colored cute stuff lol
That fairy kit is giving me soooo many feels! I made my own all the time, and this would have been MY JAM! Right there with you in excitement, Katie! And the nod to Anne Shirley!
Lol I had an easy bake oven that my sister used more than me and broke it I bought me an easy bake oven 2 years ago making all kinds of little bitty cakes for myself I thought I was the only one thank God I'm not I was questioning my sanity😂😂😂
Love that you’ve probably got a ‘real, adult’ oven but you had to buy the kiddie oven!! Love it!! 😄💕
I wanted an Easy Bake Oven so badly when I was a kid, but I never got it 😭! Now as an adult I think why bake tiny ass cakes when I can bake/buy big cakes with my adult money 🍩🎂🍰😂lol!
I do have an adult oven in fact I was a baker but it's so much more fun cooking in my teeny-tiny oven😂😂😂😂
"My mom sayin' to me: "Naw sis.""
Imagine people in, maybe the future or beings from another planet trying to decipher that sentence. Trying to make sense of it while we all immediately know what she means and what emotions and thought were at play back then. These videos are so uplifting and easy on the mind. Like listening to a friend being excited.
Katie being unapologetically unashamed of her phone case and love for these craft kits and glitter is honestly just so wholesome. Makes me even more confident in being my dorky self
The little crystals in the geode are called druzy, whenever I go mining they're always a nice find if they're clear and shiny :3
Katie is so precious, I want to put her in my pocket and give her Skittles. 💜
That's hilarious and very fitting 😂
*sits in pocket contentedly and munches skittles* Thank you for the sustenance. 💗
@@RoyaltySoaps It's the least I can do! I don't need to Marie Kondo anything because this channel sparks so much joy! 😊
I ended up getting my niece OBSESSED with the rock mining kits. She yells every time she starts to see a stone start to show. "GAGA LOOK DO YOU SEE IT?!?!?!" So fun. :D
The glitter names sounds like a fairy soap series
Exactly! Was going to comment that I somehow see a fairy potions soap series coming up!
Katie's excitement of the fairy kit made my whole day
Imagine a soap series inspired by the fairy craft kit
Yes.
"so this is a really good project. i think the project and the idea is solid"
*solid as a rock*
Do fairies shed their wings? The first potion has me concerned about the owners of said fairy wings....
They really went all the way with that Fairy kit. Wow! They thought through everything, even giving the little story of what to do with the potion. That's actually really precious and awesome. Round of Applause for the team that put that together!
You're a better salesperson for that fairy kit than any commercial I've ever seen. I'm DEFINITELY buying that for my 11yo daughter.
Katie: "It's sooo adorable I love it!!"
Also Katie: "BOX IS WROOOOOOOOOONG!!!!!!!"
I'm legitimately losing it over those fairy ingredient names-
SAME
I WANT THAT KIT SO BAD NOW
Nice pfp
A "craft" kit I always wanted, that was very trendy when I was a kid was those sea monkey aquarium things and my mum was like HELL NO. xD I can understand her now though.
I bought my son that. It was cool for about a month and then he got fed up, and I ended up having to take care of them 😂
This is the stuff I’d look at Sears catalog when I was a kid and hope Santa would bring me.
The "adult in me "is saying that fairy fake is a waste of money, but the "kid in me " loves it.
It's so pretty though! I'd leave them unlabelled and use them as decor
Those fairy potions are so cute! I use my leftover resin to make those into necklaces!
We buy kits like this for my son, he got a crystal making kit for Christmas and we had so much fun with that! He got a brite lite, which I never had, we've also done the geode kit! But yeah, it's all mostly for me and not him lol
This is crazy. I remember mom didn't have the money for those kits. Luckily, I just wanted to ride my bike and get more poetry books so not having a kit wasn't an issue.
The rock owl...
IT'S HEADWIG!
I LOVE IT!
I just turned 34 years old 3 days ago and I'm gonna go buy myself that fairy potion kit!!!
I was going to say she should've done these with Lilly but seeing how excited *SHE* is, is everything🥺😂💞
I’ve never seen a grown woman so excited about a potion kit. It’s amazing to watch!
That fairy one was definitely awesome! Well put together, good enough quality of materials, well thought out design and I loved the added bonus of it being self contained and having activities to do beyond the kit! One of my favourite craft kits I got as a kid was like a kit to bedazzle things from another kid at my birthday party. One of the items it came with was a jewelry box, and I still have that bedazzled jewellery box to this day! I loved that it had practicality beyond the kit.
Katie do be living out her childhood dreams
Next video: “my mom, the queen, does craft kits she would not let me buy”
I can't wait for the renovation series!
Thank you so much for taking the fairy potion kit seriously! I watched this with my 5 year old and was at first worried that she'd see the reality of the 'magic' and be upset, because 'we believe in fairies' in this home!
Adult Katie reverts back to kid Katie at the sight of a fairy...so cute
hehehe yep!!! 😂
Even though I have no use for those fairy potions, I want that kit so bad now!! It sounds so FUN!!!
I’m literally living for this! As a child wanting craft kits in the 90s
I literally could not stop smiling throughout our adventure in the fairy apothecary!
OMG, I LOVE the fairy potion kit!!! I'm only 61 1/2 years old, so I hope I'm in the right age range for it. Actually, I would love to make my own version of it with my own supplies. This just looks so fun!!
I love the spirit of this video. I, a grown ass woman, bought a box of lucky charms cereal the other day and legitimately thought “YOU CAN’T STOP ME, MOM.”
as a rock kid, I lost my MIND wanting to geode one.
I was a fairies obsessed child and I experienced such genuine joy and delight alongside you during the fairy potion kit part hahaha 😭💖 if i had had this as a kid i would have treasured my lil potions for y e a r s and im sure would have had a whooole little imaginary world around it
Is it just me or does “alright fairy potions, you’re up first” sound like something that would be said in an army line up ? Ahahahah
😂 now I’m just thinking about that army dude from Fairly Odd Parents commanding the troops
Your joy and enthusiasm is contagious, and I freaking LOVE it. Never apologize for things that make you happy and don't harm anyone else. Have the Barbie phone case. Cover the house in rainbows and sparkles. Live your life full of delight and magic.
And now I'm off to see if I can find myself a fairy potion kit because hell yeah, I wanna make tiny magical potions too.
Yes, please let us follow your revamping and “saponification” of your office!
As an early 90s baby, I remember the fairy craze very fondly. Here in Australia there were whole “Fairy Shops” and it was all dresses and wings and wands and flower crowns. Then they just started dying off in the early 2000s for whatever reason :(
We just did the geode one with my daughter for part of her Christmas gift.
Who would dislike this video? You brighten my day every time I watch one of your videos. You are so much fun!
I'm surprised she didn't do these with Lily, she would've loved to do these!!
I wouldn't have the patience to do this with my daughter and she's a year or two older than Lily. Small pieces and a focus project can make fun stressful.
@@tinkeramma Oh I agree. My kid is 7 and he wouldn’t won’t do any of these longer than 5 minutes. Detail projects are hard for little kids
My 1 year old and 3 year old like to paint rocks, but the fairy things would have been beyond their attention span.
Your unflagging bright, cheerful energy is a true joy.
I covered my phone in Little Mermaid stickers and put a clear case over them to keep them pretty lol your Barbie case is awesome
Her excitement over the fairy one, is the most genuine thing ever 🧡🧡🧡
The fossil digging kits were my favourite things for years, and my parents actually got me one for Christmas so i can teach my neisse how to do it 😍
Half the reason I watch this channel is for the sheer joy I get from watching our resident Duchess of Suds gets from whatever she does. The other half is how much I love soap.. then there's those moments where I'm like "I want that craft kit for my nieces and one for my son..and one for me." THE FAIRY POTION one omg I wanted that too! I'm buying 2 for my nieces to do ❤
I absolutely would have played with the fairy apothecary after making it. It would have been amazing.
But my mom never would have bought it for me either.
Katie, never apologize for being yourself. You bring joy to everyone you interact with, I promise you!
This is so satisfying, thank you for doing this for all of us! 🥰😂
I love how passionate you are for spa/arts/crafts, like watching you go through these kits brings a smile to my face and gives me a sense of nostalgia 😊
Your daughter and you must have lots of fun together! Thanks for spreading your happy vibes ❤️
Me, when a new video pops up: YAS YAS YAAAASSSS I was out of things to waaaatch!
My daughter collects fairy village pieces. This apothecary is perfect for her.
Would love to see diys and tours of your studio!!
I think if there was a booklet with design ideas/instructions, the rock painting would be good for kids who are old enough to be patient about paint drying.
That fairy potion kit was so cute! I'm not super into fairies (maybe so my heart doesn't break thinking about the Sky Fairies we lost), but I did buy someone else a cute little fairy pot bean growing kit thing. You know, the beans with the cute saying stamped on the seed, that somehow magically appears on the leaves if you do it right and the plant doesn't die?
I bought soooo many craft kits last year. Some were cute and fun, like trying polymer clay. I really liked doing sticker mosaics, which is like a quicker form of paint by numbers but without the mess. Got this spiral art colouring book where the picture is a spiral with varying thicknesses around it, and it doesn't make a picture until you colour in that one spiral line.
There's a shrink em kit I started, shrinky dinks was the popular brand name version I guess. That's on the back burner while I finish this "adult" paint by number that is taking forever to finish.
I think the snowy owl is supposed to be hedwig from Harry Potter!!!
"I don't know how much a small child would like this"
Dude my kiddo got that same geode kit when he was like 3.5. He was obsessed with smashing rocks with a hammer and he LOVED every second of that kit.
lmao I guess this is proof that finally the best thing about being an adult is now you can get anything you want that your parents would never let you have 😆😆😆
The day I realised that every ice-cream I buy from this day forth could be a magnum was the day I finally came into my adulthood haha
@@Rose-jz6sx Man.... I'm trying to think if there was anything from early childhood that I always begged my parents for and they never got me.... I can't really think of anything, which is kinda sad because I'm sure there was something, lol. Maybe a Barbie dream house but I obviously don't want that anymore LOL
But hell yeah, can buy any candy or sweets that I want now!!! 😝🤘
* EDIT: Ooooh I just thought of one!! I think I got jealous when a neighborhood kid down the street got to drive around on one of those battery powered life-like mini jeeps. I'm pretty sure I wanted one so bad at the time!! But I know they were super expensive plus I think my dad mentioned they died after like 40 mins. @@Rose-jz6sx yeah that's it, those electric cars! I just realized too that my brother got my niece that for Christmas just a few months ago and I was like "well gee! good for her!" (under my breath I would say _"lucky"_ .....)
Here's are a few geode tips from a rock hound! The flat head screwdriver method is helpful to get your geodes to crack in 2 even pieces. If you LIGHTLY tap all the way around the geode and make divot around the geode, eventually it (hopefully) will crack along the divot. Also you can tell which geodes are more hollow by feeling how heavy they are and by the shape. The lighter and rounder geodes tend to be the pretty hollow ones. One last tip! If you want to get the rust (it's actually rust!) Out of your geode, soak it in vinegar!
These are amazing tips! Thanks for sharing. While I know it probably wouldn’t happen, the vinegar to remove rust trick could very well damage the crystals if they were calcite. I know these ones were likely agate so no need to worry about damage but you would dissolve the calcite away.
"I'm only going to make one more"
Me: MAKE THEM ALLL! MAKE THEM ALL!!!
AHH! The fairy potion kit has everything! Fairies, glitter, stickers, cute box... I would have LOVED this as a kid.
title should have been "katie being a big kid for 17 mins straight"
The childlike wonder and glee is so presh... I seriously cannot. Stay adorable!
Your office looks beautiful, also the idea for this video is relatable lol XD
Had I known those kits were around in the 90s I would’ve bought them for myself to heck with the kids! Especially the fairy potions! I think I was just as excited as you were when you opened The box!
