The US-Pakistan got my son and I (Americans with no cricket experience) intrigued so we drove 18 hours to Florida for US-Ireland. Despite a 5 hours window of glorious sun between rain, there seemed to be zero interest in actually playing cricket. Three hours after the scheduled start it started raining again and the match was cancelled. To an American who is used to baseball games restarting minutes after the rain stops, this was frustrating. They had us hooked. All they had to do was actually play cricket. If that is how cricket values its fans (and curious Americans) screw it. There are plenty of sports to follow that play when the sun shines.

Sad to hear that your first impressions of cricket have been ruined by poor organization. But trust me, this tournament was a rare one because it was all thrown together in a hurry with the intentions of "growing cricket in America". The last t20 World Cup in Australia and One day World cup in India last year were organized well and you can expect similar stuff going forward. It's also a shame that cricket is behind a paywall (Willow) in America which also hinders the growth of the sport in that country.
The reason they couldn't start the match was that the drainage system of the Florida ground just wasn't capable of dealing with that heavy rain there. This is not the case with the grounds in traditional cricket nations.

Would like to echo the perspectives given but would agree with your general complaint too. There are issues with cricket that infuriate long term fans, especially concerning weather intervention. Restart times for instance often seem odd and chosen at random, but cricket itself is random and odd, including the laws. We're used to it's eccentricities.
Maybe be able to give a little different perspective vis a vis cricket and baseball which I'm quite familiar with, and why it's a bit different in those sports. Fielding on damp grass affects both sports equally and can be dangerous. Running the bases on damp infield dirt is probably a bit safer than running up and down a damp cricket square. The real clincher is the effect of having to use the same damp ball in cricket when you bowl, rather than a fresh baseball virtually every batter which is easier to grip than a damp one.
Hope a bad experience doesn't ruin your enthusiasm!
