some advice for Merg:
you should read all of the characters Follow up on the manual because you seem like you don't know how exactly they would work (You should also read the STATS manual too because there's probably some of them that you didn't know about), and also, you can use items outside battle (like food and stuff, and It's good to prepare your juice to full before battle if you are on low Juice)
also, each character has It's own class which is:
OMORI: main DPS (damage dealer)
Aubrey: main DPS/Tank (she is good for being a punching bag since she has the most HP on the group, and also deals high damage)
Kel: Sub-DPS (supports other characters to deal more damage, or do combos with them, also, I don't recommend use rebound because you can already do the same by doing a follow up with Kel and Hero, it also deals all enemies, same as rebound)
Hero: Support/healer (his follow up move is good, because it will heal the character he chooses and gives them a chance to attack again)
also, one more thing, I don't know if you already knew but, each character has It's emotion Tier. as you know, there is Happy, Sad, Angry, and each of those 3 emotions has 2 tiers (for OMORI, he has 3 Tiers), and the Tiers for each emotion are from:
Happy > Escatic > Manic
Sad > Depressed > Miserable
Angry > Enraged > Furious
Note: The 3rd tier is only limited for OMORI, other characters can't feel that emotion
I think that's all I can say, somehow had to say this because it pains me how you don't know much about it and didn't read the whole manual (or try things out, like giving other characters some emotions, or try the follow-ups) Hope this helps for the next upload, can't wait.
forgot to mention that you probably shouldn't avoid encounters with enemies that much because sooner or later, the enemies will get stronger over time and you need more level in order to defeat them, and you don't need to worry about thinking that it might ruin the storyline like "Triggering a genocide route" lol, this isn't Undertale, killing or avoiding them doesn't really matter or change anything to the storyline.

I'm pretty sure Kel is a pretty good option for DPS. A Happy Kel+ Flex+ Run n Gun can do some huge damage and the chicken ball increases it even more.
I was able to one/two-shot the last few bosses with that combo.

not to sound like an ass, but if someone plays rpg games like this without thoroughly figuring out things like combat mechanics then they're doing a bad job

Just to let you know, there are tiers of emotions.
For example, if someone is sad, you can make them even more sad, same goes for happy and angry. The stat bonuses you get from an emotion are the same, but enhanced. OMORI is a special case, he can get third tier emotions. Every member can get a maximum of 2 tiers, but he can get 3. Might be useful to tell you this.

Omori being able to have 3 stages of emotions is actually foreshadowing something but let's just let Merg figure that part out.

if Merg accidently triggers hikokomori route, that would be funny because It's probably rare for new players to get that route for the first time, considering that they would probably open the door during day time, knowing there won't be any scary stuff at that time.
Making omori sad is a good strategy, keeping him alive is very important. It also makes stab stronger, which in my opinion is one of his best moves.

Here are some more tips:
1. I don't know exactly what makes the flowers wither, but it's best to check on them after some progression
2. Try to explore whenever you can, the game will reward you with items and dialogue
Flowers may wither when you come back to headspace
a flower withers when you pick up a key i think, whether if it has to be the correct keys that complete the hangman game or not i dont know though

if your WTF value is 13, Humprhey (if thats how you spell it) will say "i f**king love air conditioning"

26:05 those "broken" things appear sometimes when you take a key. Try to interact with them and see what happens!
Only certain "broken" things will work, keys that aren't necessary for the hangman game usually don't have any "effect" + some early game necessary keys don't have it either.

Something you'll wanna know: In battles, by default it goes like this:
Kel -> Omori -> Aubrey -> Hero
You'll probably want to try to keep it that way.
Another battle tip:
Omori - Balanced character / DPS
Aubrey - Tank / DPS
Kel - Support / Good for getting quick hits off, or quickly using a Toy/Snack
Hero - Support / Healer
Make sure to check your Skills often as you get new ones!
Your chances of successfully running from a battle increase the higher your party's speed over your opponent.
Your inventory is limitless; except each singular item has a limit of 99. Try holding 99 Tofu at once... Something might happen!
Whenever you find a new picnic area with Mari, she'll (almost) always have a unique piece of dialogue if you talk to her, before her help menu.
Go check the train station later in the game!
Going back to WHITE SPACE won't really do anything to hurt the story... Since you can just open the door and continue back on whenever. However, maybe there could be an event or two there...?

Aubrey is a tank and heavy hitter, Kel is a glass cannon, Hero is a support.
the order of the characters depends on their speed. kel should be the fastest if you wanna nuke, hero has good defense but he's super slow so amplifying his speed a bit might help. omori is pretty fast but doesnt have speed amps like kel is designed to have, plus aubrey has pretty good hp.
my first playthrough was only 15 hours it just depends how many side quests you do i suppose
I love how you always start on the title screen, I love the music for it. Plus you may notice it change as you progress through the game (no spoilers! But I’m very much enjoying this) I hope you end up loving this game as much as I do Merg!

WHY DOES SUCH A GOOD PLAY THROUGH HOW SO LITTLE VIEWS?! THIS IS ILLEGAL
A tip for the emotion stuff in battle, "It was a moving attack" means your attack was super effective, "It was a dull attack" means it's not very effective.
For example : If Omori is Sad, and he attacks a foe who is happy he'll deal more damage. If he's angry, he'll deal more damage to foes that are sad. On the other hand, if Omori is happy and he attacks a foe who is sad, he'll deal less damage, etc
Fun lil tip : Emotions can stack! It amplifies each emotion's strengths and weaknesses
Luck for happy means your chances of landing a critical hit is higher, in the game's words "It hit right in the heart!", but you're more prone to missing attacks.

Whenever you find Mari again make sure to have a picnic with your friends for some extra dialogue
Don’t be afraid of collecting all the keyboard keys, even if you think they are not a part of the hangman puzzle because there is no penalty.
Don’t try to always complete every side quest as soon as you get it, because some of them require you to move forward with the story first.
You might want to see all emotions for Omori because they’re interesting
Please take your time in exploring this beautiful game, after all it Is your play through
