It is literally a west coast thing due to people putting regular garbage into a garbage disposal, so by law over there, they were relabeled as food waste disposals instead to prevent future lawsuits. People are just dumb (or scammy) like that.

I can't understand the concept of wasting so much food that I'd need a waste disposal. Its just bad planning. I throw food out like 2 or 3 times a year.
As a plumber style individual for over 20 years, I can tell you the disposal is a gimmick and the worst thing you can do is put all your food down them as the drain line for a kitchen is 2 inches and runs for many feet. unless of course you want to have many drainage issues in the future than, please be my guest, listen to dsp and his idiotic hoa. ppl like him give me job security

Ive been in the same place for a decade and my disposal still runs fine. I have to tighten it up every so often with a hex wrench, but it still works because I don't chuck all of my leftover style foods down the drain.
I just replaced my garbage disposal myself after watching a RUclips tutorial. Pretty easy procedure for a normal adult.

No amount of ranting can hide the truth: DSP absolutely loves the detractors. They give him a way to stretch out the “podcast” for even longer, ensuring there is less time he has to devote to poorly playing Elden Ring and Street Fighter.
It’s also mind boggling that he has so much food waste it sounds like him and Kat have to literally set aside time on the day off to dispose of expired food. This guy must spend 20 full Hogan pulls at the grocery store every week on stuff he won’t use. It would be more efficient and less wasteful to just shove dollar bills into the garbage disposal for their weekly ritual.

European here, how large is a "mid sized bin" in litres? We have these standard size residuel waste trashcans that hold like 60 litres. We don`t have any sink waste disposal over here mostly because they are just awful for your pipes, gets stuck there easily. But we do however seperate the waste in paper, plastic, residual and biological waste so just having the garbage truck come around every 2 weeks is no issue at all even with 2 adults, 2 kids, and a bunch of pets or even with 4 adults and 2 big dogs.
Wow so yeah 60 lt is 15 gallons , we don't even have trashcans that small inside our houses lmfao medium cans are around 32 gallons and large ones are around 55 gallons
Even as some who lives with a parent, buys sometimes too many groceries and eats out a bit too much (such as ordering door dash) we still don’t get that much of a issue with garbage, in fact I remember having a debilitating depression where I only ordered door dash and still didn’t have that issue. Makes you think just how wasteful someone else has to be

As a relatively new home owner (1.5 years) I can not fathom not owning any tools. I’m not the most handy individual, but there are tons of DIY RUclips channels.
I didn’t have a garbage disposal in my kitchen and my wife wanted one. So I did about a few hours worth of research, got one for about 100 bucks and installed it and wired it myself. Thanks RUclips for showing me how, oh and it only took me about an hour and a half to do this. DSP is completely and utterly inept

My brother lived a rough lifestyle for awhile and developed gout. He had the crystals in his joints and it caused him a lot of pain. But he's really improved his health and lifestyle, reduced his damaging habits and starting eating right and exercising. It hasn't gone away entirely, but he's stuck to the diet and improved his symptoms. He really inspired me to work on my health too. It looks very painful but with management he's doing better.

Most places also allow you to buy a second trashcan for a one time charge. We had to do that when we decided to take care of my grandma for last few years she was alive.
Phil's waste disposal situation just boggles my brain. He could spend an additional 30 dollars to put another can out. That additional 30 dollars is for up to 300lbs of garbage. That is unless his HOA has some really strict rules in addition to King County. He has the option of the community compost if he doesnt want to cram everything down his sink.
Phil, your garbage disposal is not a catch all for every piece of food waste you have. Its supposed to catch scraps from your dishes when you wash them and grind them up so your pipes dont clog on large pieces. Since he doesnt wash dishes and eats off of paper plates, why doesnt he keep a bag or something to hold the compostable food waste and then every 2-3 days take the food waste to the compost bin. If Phil just cut out the doordash and eating off of paper plates, he wouldnt be in this situation where his house is overflowing with garbage
@atlus the Bookkeeper - So I was just curious and I have a friend who lives in the Snortex area ... I was curious and asked about garbage pickup. They are allowed 3 cans total - 1 recycle, 1 food waste and 1 standard garbage can every other week. The recycle container must be blue and can be up to 96-Gallons, the food waste / organics must be grey and can be up to 64-Gallons, and the regular garbage must be green and can be up to 96-Gallons. That means in total he can dispose of 156-gallons of trash every other week. My area I'm allowed 64-Gallon trash every 2 weeks and we do not even come CLOSE to filling it.
I have a theory that Philbert goes out for his groceries run and fill a shopping cart all the way to the top, not because he is an impulsive consumer, but because that fills one of his weird checkboxes of what a responsible mature successful adult style individual does. Probably imitating what his parents groceries used to look like. Then proceeds to eat none of that, because of the intense door dashing and when next week arrives, he just shoves all the food down the waste disposal and do it all again.
I consider myself the least handy man type person ever, and even I was able to replace my garbage disposal in my sink with little effort. You literally just twist off the old one, twist on the new one and plug it in.
