Back in May 2019 I got a quilt commission to make this trip around the world quilt for Marie.
I have delayed posting the videos because i wanted her to be the first person to see it - she has it now and really likes it - I will post the different stages of making this quilt here
I'm amazed anyone has the audacity to give a thumbs down! Those are sad people who could never be happy in any situation. You, my dear, are AMAZING!!!
Rhonda Matthews ahh, never mind them, there are always some folk who aren’t enjoying the party. 😊 so long as most of us are xxx
I love your videos!
When I bought my first jelly roll, I felt like you! I was impressed!
Sitting here with my second breakfast/brunch/lunch... Tea and toast, and watching your great happiness, as you put this beautiful quilt together. I learn so much from you... about making things, and about joy.
Beautiful outcome and thank you for the outtake at the end…gave me quite the chuckle. 😅💕
Kaffe is great--I have a lot of his fabric, too. He should be paying you for your wonderful words about his fabrics.
now there's an idea! ha ha!!! xxx
Kate, I think I could tell what crossed your mind the first time you were about to say "one direction", and speaking quite honestly, I would not have minded a little peek o' Harry at all! Hahaha! I look foward to this series, and wish you a happy Wimbledon fortnight!
You got that! I was going to pop a pic of the Boys in there - but I'm not sure if it would only be you and I who got it! ha ha!! xxx
CONGRATS on surpassing 10,000 whoop whoop!!! 😺😺😺😺
I know! its like a party happened without me realising! yay! xxx
Love your excitement. Only quilters know that feeling when the right fabric and pattern comes together. The colors are beautiful. Thank you for taking us on this journey.
The colors are fantastic!
The perfectly weathered tree house makes the best backdrop for your beautiful creations! Perfect. xxx
.
Is that tree house part of your property? Agreed, its perfect for your colorful quilt backdrops.
@@mrscms831 Yes. The tree house sits behind Kate's house and some lucky guests get to stay there in summer. There's a lovely pic of it in one of the card packs.
Gorgeous colors!!
I just love your channel here on RUclips! Thanks!! ❤✨ Much love.
What a treat to get to watch your quilt come together. The sneak peeks of it in the beginning were stunning, I have to replay to see them again. You've given me a great idea of a hangerful of jelly roll strips that I cut intending to make a queen size Jelly Roll Race and then lost the mojo. There is at least the equivalent of three jelly rolls in it that I cut from my stash. Thank you (and Norma!) Kate! Looking forward to the next installment.
She is lovely as can be.Pleasant abides!!!!😊🧡😊
Oh Kate I love Kaffe fabric. When I order fabric and it arrives I get just beside myself. Thanks for sharing🥰
This is going to be a very pretty quilt! Thank you for sharing this process with us all. And I love the way Norma is sneaking into the picture on the ironing board! lol!
I had a vision of you pressing all Norma's seams in one direction ! 😂😂😂 ... yes I've been awol but I'm back now... had a bout of food poisoning which is mystifying as I only eat a plant/nuts/lentils based diet ! Anyhoo it knocked me off my feet for 6 days !! 😷 The jellyroll will look even more beautiful when you've stitched it all together !!! ❤❤❤
SuzeJo O'Connell oh dear! Glad you’re ok now 😕❤️
That final shot of the design board was so lovely!
Thank you for sharing your process.
Giddy! That's how I feel when I open a Jelly Roll! Even when you think you know what to expect, it's still a surprise! You have an awesome system of separating them out. I have to remember that. Can't wait for future installments! Btw.... I recently did a stash clean out and took all the strips I had and cut them down to 2.5 inches. I then began making my own jelly rolls by pairing them up together. Try as I might I could NOT get them to roll up like the ones I buy. But..... I'm happy with them and they're waiting to b used or added to! Absolutely LOVE your selection and am excited to watch this lovely quilt come together. 🤗❤
you can't get the gene back into the lamp (or something?) I had them sitting around for a week or more before i opened them! ha ha!! xxx
Such scrumptious fabrics. Really enjoying this series. This will be a gorgeous quilt, under Norma’s supervision. Lol.
This video was great, love your excitement about doing the quilt. I know I will be watching this video again for sure, just to make sure I haven’t missed anything. Can’t wait to see your next video. Thanks to sharing 👍❤️😊
OHH, just want to bury my face in all that color. Glorious. That picture at the end needs to be in one of your next books, OR, you could sell the PDF in your store so we can take it to our printers and make a poster for our sewing rooms! :)
mrscms831 the colours are amazing aren’t they! Xxx
Hi Kate. This is amazing to see in different videos how this quilt is made. I really love that green and blue combination. Looking forward to see the rest. Norma always the little helper. 😉 xxxxx💕💕
I'm betting the recipient of this quilt is over the moon! Oh, and Kate, I forgot to congratulate you on 10,000 subscribers!
she did love it - I'm so pleased ! and YAY 10,000 of you lovely people! xxxxx
Kate, you are so right. Once opened they never look the same again. Now they are free!!!!
Hello Kate, enjoyed the video. And i could see you were enjoying using those kaffe fabrics too. Beautiful sneak peek at quilt. Ive never made that pattern but love it. And yes i love jelly rolls and most precuts. Hugs to your ironing helper, miss Norma. 😺 another great video. You bring so much joy to so many people.
I love precuts and jelly rolls...I am not always as precise in cutting as I could/should be and that takes care of most of it. And the colors and patterns are always so much better than I can seem to do. This is going to be great fun to watch!
Such a thrill to see this come together! And having to presented as a series just makes the pleasure last longer. It's like coming full circle for me, because I stumbled into the Last Homely House when you were making the red and pink quilt - thank you RUclips algorithm!
yes - thank you RUclips algorithm - now if only I understood how it worked? xxx
I had to laugh because you look like a kid in a candy shop with that smile on your face. 😄 The fabrics are scrumptious though. This will get my creative juices flowing because Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably are coming to the Chicago area in October and I was fortunate enough to get into a workshop with them. I am so excited!
oh - lucky you! I can't get enough of his colours - its going to be so much fun! xxx
Yes, jelly rolls are so fun to play with.
Hey Kate the colors, working in between quilts and x-stitching, Mahalo and have a Awesome week!!!!!
Yey, a vlog from Kate. Makes my day. I'm looking forward to each of your shows showing us how to make this beautiful quilt. You are a fantastic teacher!! That quilt is gorgeous and I love the shot of it on the tree house......Lovely to see you today.
I've had a sressful day and finding this Video is just what I needed. Love love love your tutorials and your love of Fabric. This one is going to be amazing Kate 🙂
Ooh, I'm going to be off grid for a week. Passing through Owen and girl Rita's neck of the woods on my way to the wilds of ONT. It will be fun to catch up on this when I get back. Kaffe fabrics make me happy! Thanks so much for posting this tutorial Kate. It looks sew easy with jelly roll strips. See you on the flip side!
waving! xxx it will all be here when you get back! xxx
I don't think I can wait for next time Kate ;-) You and Norma are a great team, thank you so much for sharing. See you soon.
Kate this is going to be a beautiful quilt. I’m excited to be able to see all of your hard and clever work on this. Oh thank you for letting us see how you do it. I’m so excited about it. Have fun making it Kate.
I am always amazed when I see a roll of fabric unrolled. How you make a logical plan is beyond me. I am so impressed by your skill. Thanks for sharing this with us. I am getting an inkling of what has to be done to make such an intricate quilt. Perhaps the light bulb will go on and I will understand a bit more. Thanks. Namaste, Judi
Judi - if you break it down into parts it is easy! I promise - keep watching and you'll see! not hard at all! xxx
Whoever you are , you are going to have a beautiful quilt, the fabrics are stunning. I love these prints! I have never made a quilt so this will be a great playlist for me.
I love Kaffe fabrics. You are tempting me to indulge in some jelly rolls. That color combo is gorgeous!
they are expensive - but I made the whole quilt from just these two - I didn't need any extra fabric - and the accuracy of cutting takes that headache away - no - I'm a convert! xxx
Just love it when Norma arrives .so cutie.
Looking forward to the next video!
I don't watch my bobbin very closely. If it runs out, I just start over about two inches back on top of the last couple of inches I sewed, and then carry on. No way that's going to come out. Love, love, love your videos!
Kate, that quilt is stunning! You have some mad skills!!!
Also just watched your life chat and thank you for sharing your world with us. I'm a baby boomer too. I became a grandmother last year. He is my love😻
Love Free Spirit jelly rolls. I have been looking forward to see what you were going to do with yours. Wala and today here it is. I just love how that fabric feels. Really enjoy your videos. Scrumptious !
Thought you might enjoy this quote from a quilting friend regarding bobbin thread... “I ran out of bobbin thread about a mile ( kilometer) ago.” That made me laugh at the time and comes to mind every time I run out of bobbin thread!😁
having sewn fresh air for many yards I try to remember to check more often! ha ha! xxx
This is so interesting Kate. When my old eye were younger I made quilts but never like this. Thanks for sharing you lovely and lively world.
Hi Kate’s happy that I haven’t missed it pixel liberty video. Thank you for your reply. X

Looking forward to seeing the progress on this quilt. I loved that you kept it a secret till the client got the first look and enjoyed it before you showed us the process. How sweet! Have a great day!
Kate, you bring me so much joy just watching your vids. Your cheerfulness is an inspiration to me. Thank you so much for making your videos, they brighten my world immensely!
Hi Kate, Thank you for taking us on this quilt journey, the fabrics are amazing so rich in colour. You look so relaxed sitting there sewing, I am looking forward to seeing more of this lovely quilt as it evolves.
Hi. I’m new from California USA. I’m quilter and love it. I can’t wait until you finished this beautiful quilt. 🥰
How inspirational. I love using jelly rolls
I really enjoy watching you sew...
Thanks Kate for you inspiration
Beautiful bold colors. You have such a good sense of color, I would have been scared to pick those two rolls, but they look awesome together 👍❤️
I confess I was a little concerned - not for me - nothing could ever be too bright - but the customer! thankfully - she loves it! xxx
I love Kaffe fabrics and I love pre-cuts. I wouldn't have started quilting if it hadn't been for pre- cuts. I'm not so good at tedious things but I am starting to tolerate cutting quilt pieces. I love the quilting part and in order to get to that I have to make the quilt tops. I can't wait to see the next tutorial on the Trip Around the World quilt, although I'm not so sure I will attempt one. Maybe I'll start with a pillow top. Thank you for making it look so easy.
Love love love the colors. 😍😍😍
WOW Kate I am really enjoy this well I enjoy all your videos! I have never done a quilt but have always like to do one, think i might have said this before sorry if I am repeating myself, can't wait to see the next video on this quilt! Thank you for sharing hugs Liz...
Just beautiful! You've made an absolutely gorgeous quilt! I have those same 2 Kaffe Fassett jelly roles. I bought them because they are so beautiful but haven't been able to decide what to make with them...now I know! Just need to figure out how you placed the fabrics. There is nothing like opening up a jelly roll for the first time, it's so exciting.
ok - stay tuned - because I think the placement i chose makes for a very bold quilt! xxx
What is name of the jelly rolls.
Thanks for the video. I agree, the fabrics are gorgeous! I’ve never made a quilt, so I’m anxious to see why you have to sew the tubes before cutting the strips! 😎
ahh - all will be revealed in the next episode! xxx
You make it look so easy. It is going to be a stunning quilt. I love love love the colours. Can't wait to see the next video of this project! Thanks for sharing this with us!
Dale from Canada
but do you know - it IS easy - once you break it down! xxx

I am head over heels in love with this quilt and had decided to make one similar but not exactly the same. I hope that is ok. Mine will have orange as the mail color and then the other colors will go with that. I need this color and fun in my life right now. 😊
You go for it! Xxxx colour helps me - especially at this time of year xxx
Thank you! I will then. 😊😘
Thank you Kate - I understand about not wanting to open the jelly roll : ) Once it is done - it is still beautiful but not the same as being able to roll it in your hands and admire it. Sincerely Your Friend Lynne B

Thank you for your amazing videos ❤
This was a first for me! I think my mom did one or two for someone when I was young, but I don't remember? Thank you for sharing! I too love watching & listening to you & your amazing talents! :)
Yummy, yummy colors. Right up my painters alley.
I just love this technique. I make adult bibs with the bottom out of 5 inch squares. This will save me so much time. You are the best teacher.
Love, Love, Love it...
Just made Trip Around the World for my niece Haily, an ER nurse in Ottawa, who last year travelled around the world with her partner, Eli. Your RUclips explanations and pattern method worked wonderfully - purple mauve batiks, yellow for daffodils and green for spring. Thank you!
Hi Kate. The quilt looks fab. I'm just back from the fabric shop with 2 jelly rolls and will do a "sew along" with your posts, very exciting. 😻.
