Great to see you out in the field! The images and video look amazing! I’m looking forward to your reviews, especially how well the new auto focus system functions, and your experiences with pre-capture.
Yes all but one clip in this was with custom color off. One clip had clog23 on, but I turned it off due to turn around time as im out of town this week stomping in the tundra lol. The grading is not hard by hand with the clog 2 and looks good.
Fun to watch and glad to hear your first thoughts on the R5II. And cool to learn that I can put the distance in my exif info 😂. Helpful to remind me that yes, I was too far away to take that shot!
Super recording and material! Thank you for the review of the R5 Mark II. The R5 Mark II is already on its way to me. I am mainly afraid of the ventilation holes when taking pictures in the forest, meadows, on the beach, etc. (small bugs, midges, sand, dust and other dirt). What can you say about it? What is your opinion? Nikon Z9/Z8 and Sony A1/A7xxx / A9xxx do not have such holes. These holes seem to be isolated from the electronics. However, I am wondering about cleaning it, e.g. removing dust particles, small flies, dirt, etc. Greetings from Poland!
Great video, Scott. So far, I'm so happy I bought the R5 II. It's been great for photographing hummingbirds. The Animal Eye AF is great plus no rolling shutter with ES. Will you be making a video to show us how to set up the video for regular and slow motion clips, like the one you did for the R7? I don't know anything about video and could use your help again. I just do short clips of birds. Thank you, Scott!
Yes I'll have a video set up soon. Wanted to use it some before I made a video and glad I did as there are some gotchas with some of the frame rates and combos of features.
Great video! Glad to see you doing well! Watching with anticipation. I am still shooting 5DMKIVs and trying to weigh up whether to buy this or get an R5 and R7. Im not a wildlife shooter primarily but I love doing so im an all rounder shooting everything but I don't want to drop from 30mp to 24 knowing I already crave more than the 30 I have now. Hoping for some R5 vs R5 MKII and whether it's currently worth the nearly £2k price increase. I couldn't help but see a lot of banding in the images which is surprising, not sure if its youtube compression, the software not being quite there yet or an issue, I also saw this in Jans Wegners video too. Ive not seen banding like that since the 5DMKIII and 6DMKI
Thank you for the video. I must agree the video clips are awesome. However, I can create the same quality still images with an 1DxIII, 5DIV or 5DSR. Love holding those real cameras.
Thank you! Always enjoy your videos! I was wondering what camera in your opinion would make a great second body for a backup with the R5 II and come close to matching the color output for wedding and events ? Thanks
Hi Scott, Just thinking about the pre capture: my understanding is if it's turned on then for it to work you need to hold the shutter button at half press so if you're using back button focus then you can avoid having 15 shots every time you press the shutter simply by not holding the shutter at half press and only holding it at half press when you want the pre capture. I'd like to know if this works Cheers Noel from New Zealand
@@WILDALASKA so you can leave that feature on all the time and control it by either not holding the shutter at half press and when you actually want it the half press engages it?
Great video as usual. Have you ever done a video about your DXO processing of photos. I know Canon has great cameras, Sorry I am a Nikon shooter. Great to see you back in shape!
Thanks. I have a video on my workflow from almost 2 years back on the channel that still pretty close to what I do today. I may make an another one this winter. Lot of review and photo trip work right now. Chasing Snowing Owls currently at the top of the world 😃
Love that Pacific Loon and kingfisher confrontation. Got my camera a few days ago and very impressed so far. Will be taking it out with me this weekend for some extensive use. I think the IBIS with the 200-800 is better with this vs original R5 for video. I took a perched picture of a kingfisher at ISO 10000 and it was pretty clean, no magenta cast either. I tried the eye control and couldn't get it to be at all accurate even after calibrating. No rolling shutter with hummingbirds! Are you going to switch back to Canon as your main rig now?
You really look to be getting your strength & well being back, was hoping to get out for my first shoot with the camera today but it pretty miserable outside, not conducive to lots of raptors about. Can only imagine how those Kingfishers would have come out with R7 in electronic shutter.😂
No the crop sensor has its place. Right now I am in Barrow, AK and we are trying to shoot raptors and snowy owls and im testing the R5mkII and the right tool at the ranges I'm working would suit the r7 better. So it has its place as the cameras are tools.
Was that Otter shot at iso8000 denoised? If not, that's really good - I bumped up my playback res as high as possible and put in full screen mode - Coudln't really see any grain. You had the shot at f4....I can only imagine if you had a 1.8 to 2.8 at near dawn/dusk with lower light...how much of a good shot you could still get.
The otter was shot @ f9 using the 200-800 lens. The photo was run through dox pure raw just using the default settings for profile, color, light denoise and sharpness the same as DPP4 would do from canon. The r7 handles higher ISO well. I have a video ion the channel from a couple years ago on low light and r7. Long video with a LOT of photo examples.
After setting up my new camera for photos, I noticed that the exposure compensation indicator is on the right side of the display. How do I move it to the bottom?
Kind of. You camera records the focal distance to the EXIF data. You can see it under the exif tab in Lightroom. You have to use the gear icon to add that data point to the exif window to see
If these photos your showing aren't good so to speak because Lightroom isnt set up , then wow what will they look like when it's updated , nice photography , oh no downers on Canon but I like color profile of Nikons better but love Canon too
Always a lol moment when a fanboy of some other brand than the one being show cased in a vid gets butt hurt and lashes out in a lame attempt to disparage the topic of the vid to compensate for their inferior self confidence 👍 , thank you for your comedic relief! You are quite laughable 🤭
Glad to see your health has come back. Great shots! I’m loving the r5 II. Totally worth the money.
Thanks.
Ditto!!!!
Scott it was super nice meeting you at this lake while making this video!
I was able to get nice shots of a loon.
Very cool! nice meeting you also
Great to see you out in the field! The images and video look amazing! I’m looking forward to your reviews, especially how well the new auto focus system functions, and your experiences with pre-capture.

It’s a great camera so far, loving CLog 2!

love that otter picture very much

That loon is gorgeous. Nice video and review of the camera.
Thank you kindly!
I enjoyed your pictures. even without dxo profiles. looks great
I appreciate that!
Looks like you had an awesome time... Great fun and super captures!!
Thanks for watching!
Great to see you back enjoying life

Good to see you back to full looking well again

Beautiful various birds. I like kingfisher very much. Greetings.
Thank you! Cheers!
Stunning photography! Love the channel! I have to say I have stolen your phrase, get out there and run the shutter.😊
😃
Get out there and ruin the shutter! 🙂

Both videos and images look great.
Many thanks!
Awesome images and video. Thanks for sharing so soon.
Glad you enjoyed it
I am looking forward to your final review.
👍
Great photos. I love seeing your adventures. How are you finding out the exact distance to the subject? Is the camera giving that info?
EXIF data that you can find in Lightroom. just hit the gear icon on the EXIF info box

Thanks. Has to be RUclips or whatever you are watching RUclips on as there is no banding or artifacts in the images own video from my end.
Nice photos and video. What lake is that? Looks like it might be a go place to go at night and capture the sounds of the Loons.

🤷♂️ 5D IV vs R5 MKII? really?
Beautiful pics , I have an R3 was thinking of the R5 ii, would you recommend it or another R3?…I love the R3..thanks in advance
Wildlife? The MKII
Great Job.. Keep up the great work..
Thank you!
Great video and pictures. Which lake is that? I don’t recognize it from when I lived in AK.

Great video Scott! Take care

Thank you! Always enjoy your videos! I was wondering what camera in your opinion would make a great second body for a backup with the R5 II and come close to matching the color output for wedding and events ? Thanks
Depends on a lot. how many mp you need and features, but any canon mirrorless should be close, but r5, r3,r6mkii would be closest I would guess
Great shots!!! Looking forward for the full review! How do you get the distance? Do you use some external device to get it or some random estimation?
Its in the EXIF information
@@WILDALASKA thanks a lot. I never looked at that.

I have noticed that you have started adding range/distance to subject in your pics. Can you tell me what you use to determine this number?
EXIF data. You can find it in Lightroom in the EXIF panel but have to add it form the options.
Nice video, thanks. Do you happen to know does Davinci Resolve process the raw video?
Yes it does. I don't use resolve myself. Final Cut Pro is what I use

Grats on the camera. Don shot with the R7 and they came out great in full electric shutter with the 200-800 lens.
@@WILDALASKA That great work by Don l just so sick of the rolling shutter on R7.
I would have to do a deal with a crossroads demon to get this great camera! It’s priced a little too high for my budget..
Yes it is priced a bit high
Thanks Scott! is it safe to say that the R7 won’t be seeing much daylight for a while?😊
No the crop sensor has its place. Right now I am in Barrow, AK and we are trying to shoot raptors and snowy owls and im testing the R5mkII and the right tool at the ranges I'm working would suit the r7 better. So it has its place as the cameras are tools.

Nice video. I was wondering how you are able to know how far away your shots are. Is the distance somehow in the exif data?
Yes in the EXIF info. Just add it in Lightroom from the gear icon.
Awesome maybe a year or so but I think that’ll be my future body 👍👍👍
👍🤞
Looks good!
Thanks
Using precapture?
On all the time and loving it
Nice pict 👍, did you used the electronic or mechanical shutter?
Electronic al the way. With the stacked sensor the rolling shutter is about non existent
Thanks for answering, can't wait for my R5ii next month
How do you like the 4k60 and 120 quality compared to other cameras like the Z8?
Gathering video now to see. So far it looks good.
Are you using the EF lens
Yes
After setting up my new camera for photos, I noticed that the exposure compensation indicator is on the right side of the display. How do I move it to the bottom?
not sure sorry.
Do you have a rangefinder on your camera?
Kind of. You camera records the focal distance to the EXIF data. You can see it under the exif tab in Lightroom. You have to use the gear icon to add that data point to the exif window to see
Scott - how are you getting the distance to the subject? Estimate or is the camera doing it? Great video!
