Thanks! Yeah those 2 in particular are always hard for me to get decent shots of because they just never stay still and don't typically like to come down from the canopy very much.
Cool setup with that "big white" lens. It seems to be a great alternative to carrying a full size tripod and gimbal head (which I always do 🫤)... I am surprised though that your not using a neoprene camo over that lens
Yeah, if someone have a Lenscoat for the EF 500F4 II laying around, send it to Brent. I got the Digital Camo version just laying around. Maybe I should send it 😂
Just got back from Yellowstone and GTNP and here’s a heads up for you: there was a lot of smoke and haze from a wildfire that started August 16 and that is making wide landscape shots of the Tetons tough. Check conditions and park news before you go.
Fun video Brent. I always like seeing you go birding because it mirrors my experience of intense focus on a bird to sudden distraction by something I hear over there.
I'm glad you enjoy your new camera. That said, your still photos that you've shown us over time are just as stunning. I would suppose one way to measure the improvement in your photography would be to calculate your "keeper ratio", those images you deem worthy or a "keeper" per the number of shots you took on an outing. I use it just to see if I'm improving personally. As a professional, the more of the good photos you produce in a given timeframe would be beneficial.
Thank you for your nice and honest video! Maybe for you it is a 'slow' time for wildlife now (but try my place in the Netherlands, that is really empty now) , but you have made some stunning photo's allright! And better times are coming yet, we know that.. I am excited myself about the R5m2 too, having fun shooting what's available, like dragonflies and butterflies!
Maaaan the footage looks so crisp! Great video! May I ask a couple questions? What camera are you using to film yourself at 1:00? And also what are the legs attached to your fluid head, are they from a monopod? Thanks!
Camera lady filmed all the b-roll with an osmo pocket 3. Hopefully I'll be able to talk about the fluid head and legs on the 13th. There will be a separate video about it.
You may not necessarily need to switch to pure video mode. If you set up C3 in the settings that you want to use for video capture you can just press the little button by the shutter release. Although I do find it much more convenient to switch modes, using the little function button on the R5, which it doesn’t allow you to do that on the R5 II.
Yeah, I have C3 set to 4K 60, 1/125 sec, and auto iso, that way I can just hit the record button in stills mode and all I have to change is the aperture to get exposure. It's not great, but it works well enough without having to switch to the actual video mode.
You pointed out my biggest gripe too, the stills/video switch and the power switch. I really wish they had gone with the R7 switch. Video/stills/off, on the same switch on the right side is easy to use. Canon releasing this camera in August hasn't been great for me. In this area, the PNW, we are in a time period when activity is low. Many birds have already left and the winter birds haven't arrived yet.
Thanks Brent and Camera Lady for another very enjoyable video. Love Camera Lady's video work. The composition is so pleasing to watch. The R5 Mk ii seems by almost all accounts to be a great camera. Would love to get one but the two R6 Mkii's we have will suffice for the foreseeable future. But the image IQ of the stills generated by the R5 ii are outstanding. Keep up the good work and look forward to more R5 ii reviews.
Focus tracking with the R5 II on the Sora was very impressive. Surprised it was able to hold tracking shooting through the reeds. Excellent video and photography. My goal is to also photograph the Great Grey in GTNP this month!
SIR. I must defend that poor maligned coot chick. Personally I find the little-red-bald-man look of those (and even more so the moorhen/common gallinule) so ugly they wrap right back around to adorable. Love that footage of the chick and mom--those stubby little wings waving around, too cute! Love that astro timelapse, that came out great. I really need to do more (read: any) camping excursions. Great stuff as always, glad you're digging the R5II!
I will be out in the Tetons and the northern part of Yellowstone from September 24 through October 1. I would absolutely love to say hi if you’re up there during that time! I followed your videos for years, keep up the good work! I love the content!
I'm really interested in the R5ii gonna wait a bit and see all the reviews from you, Duade and Jan but snappy AF l and Craw 2 are a big draw for me bummed about the loss of using the Mfn to switch to video
Yeah, the loss of being able to switch to video via the mfn button is a bummer, but overall the rest of the improvements are more than worth it for me.
It’s funny when something dawns on you. I’ve seen my fair share of coots, but never a baby coot! How fun! Baby grebes too! Congrats on the new camera. I will stick with the R5, due to finances, and the fact that I’m not a pro! But I still like seeing the reviews to stay informed. Enjoy the Tetons, and go “shoot them in the face!”
I will be in the Tetons week of the 22nd, hope to see you there! Hope to give my new R5ii a good work out. Got some great shots of a grey owl last year, hopefully they will be visible this trip as well. Have yet to photograph a bull moose in the Tetons, hopefully this will be my year. Are you doing a workshop while your there?
Keep an eye out for my IG stories for updates on where I'll be for a meetup out there. I would die with happiness if I could find a GGO out there, I've searched every time I go but still haven't seen one yet. And no, I'm not doing a workshop, just gonna be up there for a while and doing a casual meet up if anyone's around.
I’m just curious, but are you having the same problem almost everyone else is getting the hot shoe cover off if need to. If so, it’s not hard when you know the proper technique. WILDALASKA review shows you how to do it easily. Can’t wait to see your full review.
Pretty jealous of the Black-Throated Gray and Painted Redstart. And the Sora footage through the reeds was really impressive.
Thanks! Yeah those 2 in particular are always hard for me to get decent shots of because they just never stay still and don't typically like to come down from the canopy very much.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I definitely get distracted easily...
We need to see camera lady, her work is lovely!
But if you see her, then she won't be doing her job...😜😆😁
@@BrentHall How about a still photo of her at work?

@@BrentHall I haven’t tried 60fps but another RUclipsr was complaining how bad it is since doesn’t oversample.

Hey thanks for the kind words, camera lady and I both appreciate that!
what a beauty place....love it

Nice video Brent. Hoping to get the R52 soon enough. I'm curious of your mini tripod setup there, my shoulder isn't getting any better! #TrappedNerve
Thanks man! I should be able to post a video about that on the 13th-ish...I hope.

@@BrentHall Fantastic! I’d love that!
Canon should put a record/video button on their new 500/4 lens. Left hand mode was for sure a weird choice for most of your genre
Brent, what is the gear and setup of equipment you are using to handhole the camera and heavier and bulky lens?
Hopefully I'll be able to talk about that on or after the 13th...

Top Drawer
And the more I want an RF mount body 😂
nice video! Is that the EF 500mm II that you are using with the R5II? How's the compatibility of these 2 systems?
Yeah, it's the mk ii. It works amazingly well with all my mirrorless bodies, especially the R5 and R5II.
I will be in the Tetons week of the 22nd, hope to see you there! Hope to give my new R5ii a good work out. are you gonna get the 28-70 2.8 lens? interested in that one as it's much more affordable
Well I would love to have one for travel purposes, but I don't have the funds right now, so I'll just have to stick with my rf 24-70.
Man Coots are noisy, but how cute is the Coot chick!!
They're definitely noisy!
Will you meet Steve Mattheis and Isaac Spotts? Don't forget the bearspray!
Not unless I randomly bump into them. Neither one of them know who I am and I highly doubt they'd care, but I do love their work.
More likely to run into Evan Watts (Watts Wildlife)
Great video Brent. What LUT do you use on your clog 2?
I have a couple of custom ones I made for myself, but mostly, I just edit to taste depending on the scene, mood, and feel I want.
@@BrentHall Thanks for that.
what's that Tolkien bookset Brent?
It's a little travel sized leatherbound version of the Hobbit and LOTR trilogy.
@@BrentHall thanks
Another annoying change in the mark 2 is that you can't change the ISO when half pressing the shutter button. I wish they fix this.
Oh that's interesting. Guess I haven't noticed that. Maybe they could fix it in a firmware, but I won't hold my breath, lol.

No, I've had zero issues with it.
It's not difficult once you find the technique. It took me about 30 seconds or so I reckon to work out how to do it.
