What I appreciate most about your videos is the joy you put into making them. You can see that you enjoy every image, like a little child. I think that is the true essence of a wildlife photographer. Just watching your videos makes you want to grab your camera and go out into the field. Thank you very much Duade.
Duade, i love the humility of your videos and the calm and enjoyable feel of them whilst maintaining technical details. A very refreshing alternative to other RUclipsrs. An excellent example of how despite you being yet another person talking about the same subject, you as a unique individual with your own viewpoint, give it value.
Thanks for the video. I don’t have the R5 or Mk2 and probably won’t but it’s just a real joy to watch your honest videos warts and all. Every morning I see you have released a new video makes it a great morning and brings a little smile to my face. Keep it up.🤪
What a wonderful and inspirational mood you make, just by showing how you work. Much more important than all the new cameras in the world. Showing how you work, makes us remember what we have to do. Get down low. Enjoy the session. Be patient and wait for the animals to come towards you. I really enjoyed this video, so please put some of this in all the videos you make. Greetings
Duane, I can see that ear-to-ear smile that says it all. The camera seemed to meet your expectations and requirements; that means all the camera changes have been good for birding. I know some are saying it’s a lot of money, but I went out with a freelance photographer, and his gear with camera and lenses were pretty much all he needed our outdoors wildlife outing, but he never complained about costs. He said the rewards are what makes his life feel complete. I guess that says every hobby or career comes with a cost, but it doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t cost you to smile or laugh as you make the shots for yourself. ❤
So glad you mentioned the lock up and the busy (bug). I've had both happen on the R5 II a couple of times in the first week of use. Haven't seen any mentions of it online at all, even though I've searched for it. This happened with the first R5 as well, but went away in short order with some firmware upgrade fixes. Kind of glad to hear it's not just my camera; I was worried it was a one off and I'd need to send it back. Been really enjoying the new features of this camera, especially the pre-capture and the faster read out. Actually shot some hummingbirds in electronic shutter! This would be a waste of time with the first R5. Thank you for your videos. Your efforts to make us feel like we are along for the session is working!
Thanks Bruce, yes I had same issue on R5 so I suspect they will fix this with an update, still annoying though. Great to hear the hummingbirds can be shot at 20 or 30 fps now getting all the different poses. Cheers, Duade
Duade, great little introduction on this new camera model. I own an R5 so excited to see some of the features. The Precapture feature seems very interesting as I know that is on other makes. Glad to see you out and about and doing another great video.
Fantastic video Duade, it's great to see you back in the field with a giant smile! I was lucky enough to be able to pick up the R5 II before I left for a trip to Scotland. While not the best season for birds there, I was able to get my feet wet using the camera during a non-birding-oriented holiday. Compared to my R6, my biggest take was how snappy the animal/bird detection and tracking was. In good to fair conditions you could have an out-of-focus blob flying around the sky and the moment you hit focus, the camera would snap on to that bird. With brushy or rocky backgrounds and surroundings it did find some sticks and pebbles that it thought were birds, but the combination of dual back-button autofocus and focus-recall settings I was using made quick work finding the correct subject. I second your statement for having an adjustable pre-capture time limit. Going through 10-15 extra photos took a lot of extra time but the keeper rate was great! I ultimately took fewer photos during my sessions than what you did for this video, but I didn't come across any shut-down or brick issues - yet. One battery was sufficient enough for each of the outings I managed to fit in, but none of them were all day affairs so I think a backup or 2 will be useful for the future. Side note - the RF200-800 is a great lens for shorebirds! I've had an absolute blast during my sessions photographing them, and I look forward to using this new combo in the future. -Danylo
G'day Danylo, thanks for the detailed report and sounds like you are having a blast which is awesome, it really is great combo and I had the same experience as yourself. I am sure they will improve it with firmware so it can only get better. Cheers, Duade
I absolutely love my R5M2 with the RF200-800. It is a simply amazing combination of camera body and lens. It has allowed me to capture fast-moving wildlife with much more ease. The keeper rate is incredible. Too many keepers,
sounds like great combo! had much time to tinker with the Eye Control AF? curious how it does in the field with longer tele lenses & switching subjects; mixed reviews on it so far, for some it sounds like it just doesn't work well, and others seem to really love it. TIA
Very enjoyable video and love the ground plate support . Still saving for the camera and all these hints and advice are great for me in preparation. 👍🏻 all the best
A great fun 1st session. I've had mine for a few days. And agree with you: AF faster, stickier. Pre-capture creates a new BIF dimension for me: The launch. Perched bird, precapture catches him as he launches. Almost foolproof.
Hi Duade, lovely vid and good to see you using that lens as I just picked it up and was worried if I'd be disappointed. It's pretty fantastic for video with the R5C. I think you'd like that cam. It'll let you shoot in 3k RAW crop 120fps which can be fab for long range stuff. Honestly, I'm preferring these natural type birding (photo) videos lately, it reminds me of how I head out myself just seeing what's out there to be photographed. I got some Sanderlings here in Ireland lately in a similar style to how you shot here.
I would just like to say that I have been a fan of this channel, ever since I started this hobby at the beginning of 2023. Thanks for pointing out the wilder contest. I have never entered one before, so I am looking forward to this process.
I have used mine photographing roller derby (paired with the Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8). Took about 4,000 photos using 20 fps and pre capture. I am very happy with it so far.
Very well made video and great photos. Have been using my mark2 for a week and very happy with it. Waiting for DXO to update so I can clean up some noise on photos. Hopefully won’t take too long. Extra batteries on order and supplier stated sept 13 for delivery. Appreciate all you do and have learned a lot from your channel.
Thanks, Duade. I've had my camera since August 20th. So far, I'm pretty happy with it. The issues that I've run into are my fault. I didn't bring over some of the settings from the R5. Tough to remember them all. I think I'm all set up now. I've taken some beautiful hummingbird photos using ES at 1/3200 and 1/4000. No rolling shutter. The wings look great. The editing software needs to catch up for everyone but it will. I'm very satisfied with my choice to upgrade.
Thanks for the video Duade. Glad you were able to get down to Flinders with the R5II, what a lovely spot and some great results from the new camera. It seems like (same as any new camera these days) there are one or two launch bugs that will need to be sorted out by firmware updates before long. But otherwise what a great camera. I've only just managed to get hold of a 200-800 here in the UK (brilliant lens, really pleased with it) so it's going to be quite a while before I can stretch to the R5II. Look forward to seeing your full review in due course. Thanks again and keep up the good work. John
I came to see what you had to say about the camera but I stayed because you connect us as the viewer to you and to nature. I felt like I was there with you, watching and learning from you. It was also quite peaceful. I enjoyed learning about and seeing these beautiful birds.
Little shore birds zooming around on the sand always makes for great shots. Well done. The Oyster Catcher with the shell in its mouth was absolutely epic. Very cool shot!
Great video, fantastic birds, useful tips. I just bought my R5 Mk II and I am quite happy with it. So far I didn't have the inconvenience I experienced with the R5, that is the camera freezing abruptly for no apparent reason. I had to remove the battery to get back to normal. Otherwise the Mk II seems to be a great step forward.
I need to mention how rare the Hooded Plovers are, only a few hundred left in the wild. There are groups who monitor every bird and will rope off nesting sites and have volunteers on site to ensure passers by keeping their dogs on a lead. I have been fortunate photographing them from Apollo Bay, Ocean Grove, Wonthaggi down to the Prom. Lucky you
Thanks mate, yes, very lucky to find an unbanded bird which speaks to the success and importance of the program. They have always had a soft spot for me, Cheers, Duade
Amazing video as usual Duade...Great captures with this combo...I just feel that Canon has done a coommendable job with R5 mk.2 and have improved with precapture and other features, and issues which you faced with R5. I really can't believe that we are getting a creamy and smooth Bokeh at F/9 with 200-800 mm. I am certainly thinking of having this gear combination...Keep clicking and sharing...Would love to see some Kingfishers and Raptors from Australia alongwith other birds...Cheers...🙏🏻😊🇮🇳
Thanks for the feedback, the low angle and nothing directly behind the subject helps with the bokeh that is for sure. Its a nice lens for its length but is a little slow in low light. Cheers, Duade
Great video thank you. Not sure if anybody else posted I didn’t see it but the busy message means you switched over to video before the buffer was clear that has been my experience anyway.
Love these in the field videos, fantastic to see you in your happy place. Another good lesson for me is that stopping down can still look really nice, I was surprised at how shallow the DOF was even at f9, especially on the super low and close stuff. I shoot at f4 to much of the time and often wish I would have stopped down when I get back and look at the images. Thanks for all you do! Keep em coming! :)
Thanks mate, yes if you can isolate the subject f7.1-9 can still look good. I often found f4 was too narrow but can create that interesting look and if you need the light its great to have. Cheers, Duade
Thanks, Duade for another great video, looking forward to many, many more. I'm looking at the R5II as my four-year-old R5 is starting to play up - not recognising genuine Canon batteries and failing when depressing the shutter. I missed a few shots because of this. I have to say since I received my 200-880 I have loved it for birding. Take care.
The image quality in your latest videos seem to have improved a lot! Very good sharpness, color and contrast! Did you do something different during editing/exporting? Or a different camera and lens combination while recording? Anyway I loved the result! I didn't think RUclips was even capable of keeping this image quality
Duade, great video, got my R5MK2, but it was not a good weekend to try things out. I enjoyed watching you and it helped to lighten my mood. Still on the fence if I want a 200-800 to maybe 400 f2.8. I think the zoom is more useful, but I think the 400 may be higher quality photos. I'm going to see if Canon has them in stock as a CPS member and try to get them both to try out. That should tell me more. One of the photographers I watch was saying he had trouble keeping the menu settings. Not sure if you are seeing that. It wasn't all of them., but some he would set and go back and they were at the default again. Good to hear about the issue you had, I hope they release a new firmware to fix problems soon.
Hi Duade! What a nice Plover session! What location was that? I'm looking forward to more videos with the R5ll. I want to mail you our itinerary for the upcoming Aussie Mega Trip, only one week left before departure now... Will you keep your eyes open for the mail, if it gets moved to the spam-folder? You'll see that our only whole day around Wangaratta, Winton Wetland and Warby-Ovens is on Wednesday October 23, with arrival on Tuesday oct 22 and checkout on Thursday oct 24. Maybe there'll be some minutes's opportunity for a meetup, maybe not. Fingers crossed!
Thanks Pia, yes, got the email and noted on calendar, hopefully we can meet up and have a fun day looking for birds. There are a number of spots for Hoodies around Melbourne and south down the great ocean road. This location was Flinders south of Melbourne. Cheers, Duade
Thank you Duade. I have been waiting for your and Jan's reviews and I am expecting mine in 3-5 days time. The R5 will go, despite being an excellent camera 90%+ of the Tim, I have had problems with focussing, especially focus jumping between subjects and I think the R5 II will be better, plus shooting sport I suffer from rolling shutter, critical for football and tennis - I know I can use the mechanical shutter, but am looking forward to using electronic and of course the pre capture - great for things like ice hockey. I look forward to your review of the R7 II 🙂
Congrats on the camera, I am enjoying mine but noticing a few things that I will talk about in an upcoming video. For sports I think it will be incredible. Cheers, Duade
Hi Duade, Been thinking about the precapture and looking through the user manual and wondered if this would work: I think I've worked out how to assign precapture on/off to a single button press: customise the M-Fn button to C: Switch to Custom shooting mode, (this allows you to toggle between C1, C2, & C3) , then set up your favourite settings to both C1 & C2 with the only difference being C1 has precapture turned off and C2 has it turned on. Finally Untick C3 so that the M-Fn button only toggles between C1 and C2. (I had a 1DX mark ii before and used this idea to toggle between single shot and H+ shooting) Cheers Noel
Duade, great video, thank you! I response to your issue of the AF jumping off the bird onto rocks, you might want to play around with AF menu 3 of 7 and set to Case Manual and turn down the tracking sensitivity and accel/decel tracking. Jan Wegener had similar issues and this seemed to be the fix for him.
Thanks Duade, great video. I love my R5 and still live in hope of a lesser pre-capture update one day! I’ll probably upgrade to the R5II in 2 years or so when it’s less expensive. Hopefully I can convince the wife that she really should take my R5…
People are raving about autofocus but like you l found the same imperfections. I have played around with the new features like precapture & frame boost, focus recall & to be honest as critical as l am of Canon & all brands this for me is near perfect & better than what l had hoped for. We complain about a price increase yet how many cameras have pupil controlled autofocus though it may not work for all l find it quite good & l wear glasses.
Wonderful video Duade! sounds amazing, Just on a beach by yourself with just you're camera and birds, Great set of images hope you're well can't wait for the review. 🥳
Fantastic review Duade..I have had the same issue as you with the “busy” notification and also the freeze..Had to pull the battery out and put it back in to continue..A little frustrating 😊👍
Great stuff! Thank you very much! It's arriving today. I'm convinced that it's a good successor. Tell me, please, aren't you afraid of the ventilation holes at the bottom and on the side of the casing (sand, moisture, dirt, dust)? Greetings from Poland!
G'day, congrats on the camera, I am confident the camera should be able to stand up to normal outdoor use. As long as you clean it after each use and blow out the sand etc it should be fine. Cheers, Duade
I am not a birder or wildlife photographer. I am hobbyist photographer, mainly take photos while traveling, family vacation and holidays. I own the Nikon Z50, great travel camera. I was considering purchasing the Nikon 180 -600mm lens to start photography wildlife, but waiting for Nikon to introduce a new APSC camera (better AF). You are one of my favorite RUclips wildlife (birder) photographer, I always learn so much from you and enjoy all your videos. Looking forward to your next video.
Uploaded 3 minutes ago? Can't wait! I just got an R7 and i combine it with my tamron 150-600 G2 lens although quite a few of my shots come out pretty soft I was wondering what tips you might have? I already followed your other tips on the R7 video! Thanks as always Duade!
I know the biggest change I made that tripled my keeper rate with my R7 was making sure my shutter half press is metering start only(with back button af). If not the af re-hunts when taking pics.
It's great to see you out & about. I have the R5ii & I've used it a few times this week. I've found it to be a far better body than the original R5 (still have) & the recently sold R7. The only problem I see the dynamic range. A friend (CPS member) says to shoot for the shadows & recover the Hl's in post (2 stops easy). The Pro-continuous is far better than the R7 by a long way. Overall, I'm happy with the shots I've posted this week of birds in flight (& bee's).
Once again, I enjoyed Mr Paton's experience of shooting birds with his new camera. As a Chinese bird photography enthusiast, I have been following you for a long time. I have bought the R5II for nearly 3 weeks. China is currently in late summer and early autumn, and the weather is still relatively hot and turbulence has a greater impact. My biggest experience with this new camera is that the focus and tracking performance have been greatly improved (compared to the R5), especially for tracking high-speed flying birds (swifts). However, its high-sensitivity performance is somewhat insufficient compared to the R5. I personally feel that the image quality drops significantly when it exceeds ISO2000. (The R5 can reach 5000-6000). In addition, the overall image quality seems a bit dry, and it seems that it does not have the quality of a full-frame camera, but it is a bit close to the R7. I usually use EF600F4II+2x or RF200-800 to shoot birds, especially birds of prey. I wonder if Mr Paton has the above feelings? Thank you for your wonderful sharing. I wish you good health! (PS: I am a cardiothoracic surgeon)
Thanks for the comment I really appreciate it and glad to hear you are enjoying bird photograpy. Your comments on the R5II ring true for me and I plan on making a video soon discussing this very thing. I need to take some more comparison shots to make any firm conclusions. Thanks for sharing your insight. Cheers, Duade
Lots of folks talking about the camera freezing on the Canon R5 & R5 Mark II Shooters FB page hopefully a firmware update will resolve this. I was happy to hear that the buffer is larger. Very interested in what you think of the dynamic range compared to the R51. My favorite subjects are Buffleheads with their bright white and dark iridescent feathers and it always task the R5 1 to the limit.
Thanks mate, was not aware of that, yes I hope they can fix, I recall the original R5 having some lock up moments early on as well. I will do a video on the dynamic range soon. Cheers, Duade
Hi Duade, Firstly I'm a little envious that you have your R5 ii and I have no ideal when mine will arrive, really pleased to see your first impressions are positive, I was wondering of you have tried a different battery and if that works I have read that with older batteries you don't get all he features on the R5 II, I will have a ton of questions when I get mine but I am sure most will be answered in your up coming videos. great vid keep them coming. all the best H.
I think the reason why some functions don't work with the older batteries is that they would make them go flat rather quickly. Buying one of these new batteries could be good for offering a longer life for older cameras if they are reverse compatible.
@Duade I’m just returning to photography and found your channel and love your honest and enthusiastic approach to your reviews and sharing of knowledge. I was fortunate enough to get one of the first R5 MKll’s in NZ but it seems to me that lightroom is doing something awful to the images, would you care to mention what your post process is and what software you use? Thanks mate from across the Tasman
Upgraded as well. Agree with the biggest improvements, AF and precapture. So far no odd behavior. Had issues where my R5 wouldn't always wake up reliably and I would need to turn off and on. Would also seem to lag at times, so far the mark ii hasn't exhibited any of these annoyances from the mark i. Still wonder if I would have been better served with a new lens, but when it comes to birding and moving subjects I am very happy with the improvements. I don't see any advantage over the mark i for anything else except maybe low light/high iso with electronic shutter.
Great episode, thanks much. In regards to AF, have you found any reason to use the wide area tracking during your sessions, or has eye tracking been sufficient? Kind regards.
My understanding of the R5II precapture is that it's 20 (or so) images, and if you have a slower FPS setting, that means the precaptures are spread out over up to 20s
Great review! I would love to get a R5ii but really can't justify the expense. I live on Social Security and recently bought a R6ii and a RF100-500 a combo that I really love. I shoot BIF and would love the extra cropping ability of 45 mp, however I only shoot for social media, emails and a 8 1/2 x 11 calendar for friends and relatives every year, oh and an occasional entry in my clubs photo contest where they limit entries to jpg's and 1920x1200 pixels. I don't do any video and I really like the layout of the controls on the R6ii. I debated on the R5ii but felt that rather than an R5ii with EF glass I had for my 90D I would put the same money into the R6ii AND the RF 100-500. I have never regretted it however it doesn't stop me from wanting...
Hi Duade! I had the same "Brick out" scenario happen to me on my first day out with the R5 Mark II. Like you, I had to remove and re-set the batteries in order to get it to finally respond. This only happened that one time, and I pray it was a one time only type of thing.
goes without saying, but ofc major thanks for putting a highly relevant and informative video together here on this new body 👌👌 geeking out for a second here on something that caught my eye: @2:57, there is a peculiar (but familiar) wobble in the background. hoping that wasn't an IBIS wobble? I've seen this type of wonky jitter before, when I use too much stabilization in FCPX. wondering if your clips here are processed and perhaps the reason for this, or if that's a type of wobble we need to look out for with the R5 II IBIS system? If i'm being honest, I've become hypersensitive to IBIS wobble when shooting ultrawide. It can really ruin a shot if you're not paying attention, but to be honest it's pretty rare I have issue with it beyond 35-40mm. fingers crossed this isn't an internal issue with R5II 🤞 thanks much, appreciate all you do!
As always, a great video mate. Stunning photos and videos, and very informative. Hopefully the bad things with the camera will be fixed with some firmware in the near future. Wishing you and yours a great weekend. Cheers, Bjoern.
G'day mate ! congrats with your new baby 😀 It's nice to see your early experiences as raw as this ! You and Jan convince me I'd want to upgrade my R5 as well, I just don't know when I'll be able to afford it ..
@@Duade 🙏that would be nice Duade, but the original R5 saw its first sales (in Europe) only 2 full years after it started shipping. What's bugging me more is the current resale price for my R5: I was used resellers here normally take a 15% margin, which is fine. Now I see them selling used R5's with less than 20k clicks for $3300, but they only offer ~ $1300 for mine having 215k clicks, which is less then when I sold my R6 with 71k clicks. The R5 was rated at 500k clicks, and 80% were shot in ES, so it's not anywhere near being overused. Maybe currently there are too many hardly used R5's offered for sale due to people buying a hype camera rather than for living our common passion ??
@@WernerBirdNature G'day, the clicks taken on the ES should have no influence on price whatsoever as that process is completely digital and does not wear out like a mechanical shutter. I would sell second hand yourself and just say 80% of shots taken on ES. $1300 seems far too low to me. Cheers, Duade
@@Duade Thanks a lot for this feedback Duade !! In my region it was extremely rare to find a second hand R5 the past years. I guess the big stores now just have no clue how easy they'll be able to sell the used R5's from all those now swapping for the R5ii. Shipment of the R5ii hasn't even started in Europe ..
Good to have you back Duade. I've waiting for your R5II review for quite long. How's your experience with Osmo Pocket 3 setup? I was planning to buy it for the same BTS purpose and great to see you've already done so. Cheers.
Pretty good so far apart from the memory card failing. The audio with the wireless mic seems very sensitive picking up a lot of background noise. But the camera itself and size seems to perform well. Cheers, Duade
Kinda funny i was hoping to see the combination of r5m2 with rf 200-800 but was sure that nobody would pair a high end camera with a medium to lower end lens. Well i got to see the combination here! Thanks a lot!
Nice to see you on field again and you look healthy, Duade!
Thanks Rex, possibly a bit to healthy whilst recovering, need to lose a few pounds :-) Cheers, Duade
What I appreciate most about your videos is the joy you put into making them. You can see that you enjoy every image, like a little child. I think that is the true essence of a wildlife photographer. Just watching your videos makes you want to grab your camera and go out into the field. Thank you very much Duade.

I love this type of video by you!
Great images. And the video of you with shooting the plovers as they come towards you then go past you is wonderful!
Great to see Duade back out in the field... love these content. 👍👍👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it, Cheers, Duade
Thanks for the video. I don’t have the R5 or Mk2 and probably won’t but it’s just a real joy to watch your honest videos warts and all. Every morning I see you have released a new video makes it a great morning and brings a little smile to my face. Keep it up.🤪
Thanks Kevan, a lovely comment, Cheers, Duade
Great video mate. I remember that beach well.
Yes, I have you to thank for that location, Cheers, Duade

The video I've been waiting for! My favorite Cameraman!

So glad you mentioned the lock up and the busy (bug). I've had both happen on the R5 II a couple of times in the first week of use.
Thanks Bruce, yes it was fun, I plan on releasing a video talking about some differences with the R5 soon, Cheers, Duade
That great feeling of seeing you back to the field ❤
Your videos inspire me

Fantastic video Duade, it's great to see you back in the field with a giant smile!
I was lucky enough to be able to pick up the R5 II before I left for a trip to Scotland. While not the best season for birds there, I was able to get my feet wet using the camera during a non-birding-oriented holiday. Very enjoyable video and love the ground plate support . Still saving for the camera and all these hints and advice are great for me in preparation. 👍🏻 all the best
Very helpful to get your first impressions of the R5 II in real time! And, great to see you out and about, enjoying the birds. Stay well!
Very nice video, Duade. Good to see you back in full form and looking great!! God bless you mate! 🙏
Thanks Rich, Cheers, Duade
A great fun 1st session. I've had mine for a few days. And agree with you: AF faster, stickier. Pre-capture creates a new BIF dimension for me: The launch. Perched bird, precapture catches him as he launches. Almost foolproof.
Really great shots of the great cormorant. Lots of atmosphere.
Just ordered a d40 and a 18-55mm lense. Never took photos before outside of my phone, excited to try a new hobby!
Great video as always Duade, really nice to see you out there enjoying the experience as much as the bird photos.
I would just like to say that I have been a fan of this channel, ever since I started this hobby at the beginning of 2023. Thanks for pointing out the wilder contest. I have never entered one before, so I am looking forward to this process.
I love your works in every way
I have used mine photographing roller derby (paired with the Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8).
Thanks for the support, great to hear you are enjoying the camera, I also have the batteries on back order. Cheers, Duade
A photographer's happiness. Love it!
Great to see you out with the R5II. Great video. Take care.
Good to see you back in the field Duade, some excellent images taken. Looking forward to move videos on the R5 Mk2.
Thanks Gaz, Cheers, Duade
John
Thanks John, yes, a few software glitches that need updating for sure. Congrats on the lens, it took long enough. Have fun out there, Cheers, Duade
Thanks Duade. I'll be back for your later assessments of the R5 II.
Happy to see you in the field again, hope to see more of the R5ii and I hopw that shutting down was just a fluke.
wonderful video. your enthusiasm is enjoyable and adds to content and comments about the gear. really enjoy you videos. regards!
I came to see what you had to say about the camera but I stayed because you connect us as the viewer to you and to nature. I felt like I was there with you, watching and learning from you. It was also quite peaceful. I enjoyed learning about and seeing these beautiful birds.
Phenomenal shots, and thanks for showing us how you did it
Can’t wait for your full camera review!
Camera of the year definitely
Little shore birds zooming around on the sand always makes for great shots. Well done. The Oyster Catcher with the shell in its mouth was absolutely epic. Very cool shot!
Great video, fantastic birds, useful tips. I just bought my R5 Mk II and I am quite happy with it. So far I didn't have the inconvenience I experienced with the R5, that is the camera freezing abruptly for no apparent reason. I had to remove the battery to get back to normal. Otherwise the Mk II seems to be a great step forward.
It's very enjoyable to see such enthusiasm for your craft! Lovely images, BTW.
Happy to see you back at it Duade! I just love the shot of the plover with the wings up looking like he’s ice skating 😊
Great video, nice to see you back in the field! I just got my 5.2 and had a flood first session with it. Looking forward to more this weekend.
My all time fav RUclipsr has finally come out with the R5 mkii review!!!!❤
I've been waiting for your review of this camera. Thanks very much and please keep up the great videos.
Really great video!
Yeah, that is how it should work but it never lets you hit record, just stays busy permanently. Cheers, Duade
Amazing video as usual!! I'm staying with the old R5!
Good to see you on field again Duade 💝💝
Thanks, Duade for another great video, looking forward to many, many more. I'm looking at the R5II as my four-year-old R5 is starting to play up - not recognising genuine Canon batteries and failing when depressing the shutter. I missed a few shots because of this. I have to say since I received my 200-880 I have loved it for birding. Take care.
Great to hear you are enjoying the 200-800, a very flexible lens, sorry to hear about the R5, that is dissapointing. Cheers, Duade
Dear Sir, I was waiting for your reviews on the camera. I like the way you present the information. Awaiting your full review.
The image quality in your latest videos seem to have improved a lot! Very good sharpness, color and contrast! Did you do something different during editing/exporting? Or a different camera and lens combination while recording? Anyway I loved the result! I didn't think RUclips was even capable of keeping this image quality
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it, currently filming on the R6II which seems to work well. Cheers, Duade
Really great to see new video from you. Cheers!😊
@@Duade Thank you. I look forward to it.
Hi Duade,
Been thinking about the precapture and looking through the user manual and wondered if this would work:
I think I've worked out how to assign precapture on/off to a single button press: customise the M-Fn button to C: Switch to Custom shooting mode, (this allows you to toggle between C1, C2, & C3) , then set up your favourite settings to both C1 & C2 with the only difference being C1 has precapture turned off and C2 has it turned on. Finally Untick C3 so that the M-Fn button only toggles between C1 and C2. (I had a 1DX mark ii before and used this idea to toggle between single shot and H+ shooting)
Cheers
Noel
G'day Noel, apologies for the delay but you are bang on with your theory, works a treat. Thanks so much, Cheers, Duade
Woww nice congratulation with your new camera R5 II.❤
Fantastic review Duade..I have had the same issue as you with the “busy” notification and also the freeze..Had to pull the battery out and put it back in to continue..A little frustrating 😊👍
Thanks for sharing, sounds like it is a common issue, hopefully they rush out a fix for it. Cheers, Duade
Thanks for sharing, I am finding similar things although have not tried the precapture yet
(PS: I am a cardiothoracic surgeon)
high-sensitivity should be H ISO, sorry😅
Thanks mate, older batteries will work but I think you lose precapture and maybe some video features, I will look into that. Cheers, Duade
Hi Duade, will you soon be putting out a set of recommendations on settings for this camera?
You going to do a set up video? Just got mine yesterday
Great intro video Duade, can’t wait till you publish the full camera review
Great episode, thanks much. In regards to AF, have you found any reason to use the wide area tracking during your sessions, or has eye tracking been sufficient? Kind regards.
G'day Jeffery, just using eye tracking at this stage, I will have to test the difference between the two. Cheers, Duade
At 6:08, lovely, rich feather detail.
Im happy You enjoyed ! :)
What ypu think about r3 ? Is it better than r5 mk2 ? Maybe some comparison next ? :)
My understanding of the R5II precapture is that it's 20 (or so) images, and if you have a slower FPS setting, that means the precaptures are spread out over up to 20s
I love the shot at 10:06, but wonder if its even more dynamic if his little buddy is left in and you see him reacting to the one spreading its wings
Excellent photos, video, and review Duade!
Great video Duade!
If you run out of ideas for videos, I would be interested in seeing a video of the R5mkII paired with the Sigma 150-600C?
Thanks for sharing, Cheers, Duade
goes without saying, but ofc major thanks for putting a highly relevant and informative video together here on this new body 👌👌
geeking out for a second here on something that caught my eye: @2:57, there is a peculiar (but familiar) wobble in the background. hoping that wasn't an IBIS wobble? I've seen this type of wonky jitter before, when I use too much stabilization in FCPX. wondering if your clips here are processed and perhaps the reason for this, or if that's a type of wobble we need to look out for with the R5 II IBIS system? If i'm being honest, I've become hypersensitive to IBIS wobble when shooting ultrawide. It can really ruin a shot if you're not paying attention, but to be honest it's pretty rare I have issue with it beyond 35-40mm. fingers crossed this isn't an internal issue with R5II 🤞
thanks much, appreciate all you do!
As always, a great video mate. Stunning photos and videos, and very informative. Hopefully the bad things with the camera will be fixed with some firmware in the near future.
Wishing you and yours a great weekend.
Cheers, Bjoern.
Thanks mate, Cheers, Duade
You are the first person I've seen use the OSMO on top like that. Great Idea and Great Video. Thanks for sharing
G'day mate ! congrats with your new baby 😀 It's nice to see your early experiences as raw as this !
You and Jan convince me I'd want to upgrade my R5 as well, I just don't know when I'll be able to afford it ..
Hopefully it will go on sale at some stage, Cheers, Duade
Another wonderful video!
Loved the zoomed out habitat photos ❤
Great to hear, Cheers, Duade
Kinda funny i was hoping to see the combination of r5m2 with rf 200-800 but was sure that nobody would pair a high end camera with a medium to lower end lens. Well i got to see the combination here! Thanks a lot!
The music in the intro was perfect ♥
