@@jan_wegener Thanks. I've taken some photos with the R& and this lens and have been generally satisfied, but I'll certainly now be trying it with the R5 and the converter for comparison. As far as I'm concerned you and Duade provide the best, most informative videos for my purposes. My wife is a bird watcher so I'm generally tasked with trying to get photos of birds she spots.
As a Canon user and a big fan of both channels, this video is simply perfect. Those shots were just jaw-dropping, particularly the baby surrounded by the adults and the gull challenging the mother with the baby nearby. Just phenomenal. Thank you for sharing Duade! 35,000 photos? You are almost obligated to tell us how on earth you pare that down to a manageable amount, haha
Thanks mate, it was a lot of fun that is for sure. Jan was joking about the number, but I did end up taking a lot of photos whichwas a lot to go through :-) Cheers, Duade
Absolutely love to see you two together collaborating and not being competitive! 2 of my favorite you tube stars! I also appreciate your honesty on how the process works! The raw shots then edited are priceless. I’m not great at flight shots. I’m not sure if it’s settings or skill. I’d love to see a video on that! Happy New Year!
There’s way too much competitiveness going on in nature photography. In the end it should be about having fun out in the field and with good friends and getting some nice photos along the way
Thanks, it is my pleasure and yes so much fun, BIF is very difficult and I still take lots of soft shots. Ultimately its about shooting at a high shutter speed, tracking the bird and taking lots of shots. Good luck, Cheers, Duade
Jan and Duade, I've been waiting for you fellows to break-out with your Canon gear. You guys are an excellent team in collaborative wildlife photography. My advice to any of your Canon or other camera model viewers is to grab a hot cup of coffee and find a comfortable chair to view the best RF wildlife video of 2024! The fact that you show the specific information for RAW and the edited images is a plus gift. Can't discount the excellent weather for your shoot. Glad your BTS video did not crash.
So lovely see you to together. 1+1= 3! You both clearly love what you doing and being together. And at the same time you have different style and focus. Perfect!
Great video you guys work so well together it’s so natural and I enjoy the banter between mates. I also really like the way Duade shows the actual raw shot then the crop and final shot
Hi Duade, you guys had a great day. Thank you both for taking us with you! Very impressive. Again a field test what shows that the RF 200-800 mm is a good lens. It seems a lens with a good price-performance ratio. I think I’ll buy this lens over this year. Thanks a lot guys! Regards Uwe Germany, Frankfurt am Main
Wonderful work with the 200-800 showing what's possible with it alone and with the extender. The unscripted natural exchanges and joking around between you two truly make this a fantastic video. One of your best!
Hey from Mombasa, Kenya These two guys are best wildlife photographers I watch and I can’t be happier to see them collaborating. I wish to see more of these I have learned a lot from Jan and Duade and they actually got me into bird photography
Great video from you both. Really liked it Duade, thank you for sharing. And i am not even a canon shooter...😅 It is just all about just having fun with photographing birds👍 Well done😊

Fun times guys , great shots. My lens is still on backorder. If it wasn't for the fact I'm on the East coast of the US and with this bad weather I'll would have been upset over not having mine.
Great job, guys! I can always relate to two friends shooting together. It's not just the photos you take, it's the friends getting together and enjoying both the photography and the friendship. Well done!
You two both ( you and Jan ) need to go to AZ In July or August I would love to show you guys some of the places to go see the Hummingbirds I think you guys would have a great time coming over and seeing that .
Thank you both for reminding us that wildlife photography is above all fun and sometimes sharing with others which gives another dimension to the day! As for the softness of the zoom ring, my RF200-800 must be a little special but the ring is so much softer than my Sigma 150-600 that I have the impression that the RF200-800 is 2 at 3 times more flexible so it doesn't bother me, on the contrary!
Yes, totally agree, always fun to shoot with mates, great to hear your zoom ring is not as stiff as your Sigma, I think I am just used to the Sony and 100-500 which are much quicker. Cheers, Duade
First thing I see is that you have really fun, and sharing the passion of wildlife photography, I was trying to reach some youtubers in Europe, but they even bother to reply. So happy you are always replying and sharing with each other. You are the best, I am hoping to get my 200-800 on 19th January so I can take it on my trip to Bulgaria and Greece. Have fun and keep doing such a great job.
Like watching Thomas Heaton and Mads Iverson together for landscape, but it's my birds/wildlife favorites instead! Nice to see the interaction and collaboration!
Excellent shots. You both were brave to add 1.4x to do BIF shots. Well, with good light, f13 is doable. I am impressed. I just got the RF 200-800 and tried that in storm lighting situation and it performed well. It is as sharp as the RF 100-500. Some people despise the 200-800 because of f9. They just don't know what they are talking about.
Whan should i do, love the canon strategy with its f7.1,f8,f9, f 11 lenses ? You can do it. Canon users are just like apple ones. They will buy it, no mather what.
Really liking these format of videos. Having best buds at the same spot. I watched Morten Hilmer's video last night with Morten and Jostein and truly enjoyed the adventure. Keep it up guys!
One word: Beautiful! The close ups were amazing and such stunning landscape vistas. Very informative to see the RF 2-8 in action, and at a variety of focal lengths. Kind regards.
Great to see a couple of good mates and photographers together. What an awesome spot for bird photography. Fantastic vid Duade and Jan. That 200-800mm looks like it's a winner.
A couple of times when you were facing the camera and talking I wanted to say, "turn around there's a great in flight shot you're missing!" LOL. What a great location. Thanks for a fun video. Makes me really look forward to spring here in Colorado when all the babies will start to appear.
Dynamic Duo! Great to see my 2 favorite birders all in one show! Fantastic results from 200-800 + 1.4x. I love the Tern vs. Gull shot... just amazing! You 2 have just made this lens a lot harder to get! Thanks! I better get my order in to have any chance of getting a copy before summer!
Thanks Winston, it was a lot of fun and yes I too love that gull vs tern shot. The lens for its price is great, a few weaknesses which I will mention in the review but happy so far. Cheers, Duade
Thanks Trevor, it is a good question, I think I have always questioned the value as they are quite expensive and adds weight. I just change the battery when needed, I also dont shoot vertical very often. But in saying that, perhaps if I did get a grip that would change. I think there are after market grips as well but not sure how good they are. What is your experience? Cheers, Duade
You need more new members to help you with a grip. (Hint hint viewers!) The grip is so versatile and works on so many of your cameras - R6ii & R5 and hopefully the R5ii. Maybe the battery life gets better with the R5ii and maybe not. Battery life is really good with the R7, but my R5 needs my grip to get through the day.
Really enjoyed seeing you and Jan testing out the big new canon zoom in varying light and different flight and roosting scenarios. Beautiful results at f13 with the tight portrait shots all with impressive blurred backgrounds. The versatility and sheer reach with the 1.4x extender were obvious without noticeable drop-off in quality. No trouble locking on with bird in flight shots once you worked out the flight pattern of the Terns. Thanks for sharing all the tips too from both of you. Cheers mate.
Duade, what a wonderful experience with these nesting terns! I guess this colony is very used to people standing on the boardwalk there. Least terns that nest at beaches near me will buzz right by you very aggressively and actually poop on you sometimes, when you get close enough for a respectfully-distanced shot. But, when you're able to get the pictures of them feeding and caring for the chicks, it's all worth it. The 200-800 continues to impress, even with the TC!
Thanks, yes, a very popular tourist location so the birds would be used to people, literally hundreds per day. Yes, the lens is not perfect but I have been impressed so far given the cost. Cheers, Duade
Two of my favorite guys having a great time and capturing so many wonderful images. The joy exudes from both of you and makes the entire video all the more beautiful and enjoyable. Many, many thanks for sharing this terrific experience!
Love it when you two get together and do a video! Contemplating that lens... I have the 100-500... and would really love to have a 600mm f4... but that 800mm with a zoom.... I may contemplate forever! LOL
Hi Duade, certainly looks like you had a great time, and some of the pictures look superb. I am always amazed how good the eye tracking is on these mirrorless cameras when is it shown, the lens sounds and looks like it is winner. I wish I had known about this location last month when I was visiting, never mind there is always next time.
If I may make a suggestion: I am a beginner wildlife photographer but a long term, decent long range rifle shooter. Laying on uncomfortable surface to shoot a target over 1000 yards is an issue for both hobbies I think. I use a padded “shooting mat that rolls into a small bundle, is quite padded yet very light. About 7-8 ft long (unrolled) and 3 ft wide, with carrying strap. You can find them on sites like Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops, etc. We also carry a lot of gear that includes a large scoped rifle, spotting scopes, range finders and ammunition, etc. Point is: the gear is different but can be bulky and we hike miles to set up and the shooting pad is a welcomed addition to ease rocky ground…or rough boards. In your current video situation it would have been perfect.
Jan about time you came back to Victoria, love it when you both link up. I’ve been shooting (mainly out at Winton Wetlands) with the R6ii and 100-500 with a 1.4 extender but I think you’ve convinced me to go with the 200-800. Thanks for another top video Duade.
Great video! Good to see you and Jan together again. I just got my 200-800 yesterday and took it out for a quick test run and I am impressed. Very sharp and great reach. Can't wait to use it more with my R5 and R7! Cheers.
My two favorite Aussies! I'm delighted to see the two of you out shooting together. I'm still waiting on my RF 200-800. It's crazy to me that Canon didn't produce enough inventory, as usual. I already own the 1.4x. Thanks for taking shots with it so I could see it works with the lens.
I’m really enjoying these videos putting the 200-800mm through its paces. Thanks very much. I’m hoping you’ll find time to break out Gary the Galah again for some granular comparisons between the 100-500 and the 200-800! 😅
Well that was fun. As soon as the video was over, I jumped on Google Maps to check out where you were. Zoomed in on the "Nobbies View Point" Thanks for the continuing accolades on the 200-800 lens. Getting closer to actually pulling the trigger on ordering one for myself. Guess I'll be on a waiting list ! Nice work boys !
Gorgeous gold shots!! I call it "chasing the pink" b/c I live on a lake and sunrise is pink here on a good day, but you guys got the gold - even better! Best commercial for camera lense I ever saw. Cheers to your continued success!
One time I saw a guy get waist deep in a pair of rubber pants with susoenders and wait there for like over 4t minutes to get the most incredible shots. It's like winner take all - who ever is willing to wake up, get out there and get into the craziest positions usually takes home the big money. I'm new at photography since we moved to a farm on the lake... But this is a lesson I learned early and my shots are better for it.
Double the fun! You guys are the most authentic and most informative photographers on RUclips so it’s great to see you doing this together and have so much fun. Thanks for sharing your passion.
Thanks for another great video from my two Australian super photographers. Great to see how the lens performs with the extenders in your skilled hands. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Per Christensen, Denmark, Northern Hemisphere.
Fantastic guys. great to see you just enjoying the day and a lovely bit of sunshine to brighten a dull grey winter in the uk. Hopefully it brightens up tomorrow to put my new r7 and 100/500 through its paces
Duade and Jan, you guys did a really good job of showing the enjoyment of bird photography and a casual review of RF200-800 in the process. I've been trying to decide between the 100-500 and the 200-800. I'm convinced that now that I should go with the RF200-800, as I photograph mainly small birds. Thanks for another excellent video.
We ducks, geese, gulls, and the occasional coot bird, but... Nothing like those falcons. Beautiful shots! Love that you guys laid down because my brain was like hoping for that. Best shot I ever saw - my daughter got. She's 10. She even setup he shot and laid down to get the best angle on a sunset over a cliff. Such a simple trick and most tourists never feel comfortable or crosses their minds to do that for the shots.
Fantastic video Duade. It makes me happy to see you having a lot of fun like old friends. It's very nice to know that the 200/800 also works very well with the 1.4x TC. Thanks again for your work. HI Marzio
great video with both of you. my two favorite youtubers. great to know you have the great crested terns. at last one bird we share. i live by the red sea.
Thanks again Duade. Looks like you and Jan had a wonderful time on Phillip Island with some brilliant results from both of you using the Rf 200 - 800. As far as I can tell it'll be March before they start turning up here in the UK in any sort of numbers. Ah well, at least the light should be getting better by then! John
Great stuff from two excellent photographers (and RUclipsrs)! I finally got my 200-800 yesterday, after a wait of quite a few months, and I've been very happy with the results of just a few test shots on my R6 Mk II. I plan to add an R5 Mk II to my kit within the next few weeks, and really looking forward to seeing how that pairing works!
You guys looked like you were having great fun. Sometime it would be good to have a video listuing your favourite locations, and the 'best' times of year to visit. Its been a long time since we've been in Australia, and so we are always on the lookout forn great locations.
G'day, yes it was a wonderful time and we had a lot of fun. In terms of best times it really depends on location and the types of birds you are after. We have a lot of all year residents but we get a lot of migratory birds also. There is a book called Finding Birds in Australia which lists all the species and where and when I believe. www.publish.csiro.au/book/6518/ It might be available overseas. It is a pretty thick book but full of info. Cheers, Duade
Great to see you and Jan together and sharing a birding adventure. Also great seeing you test out the the new Canon 200-800mm lens. That is a lens I am very interested in. Magnificent pictures by you both. I used to see Artic Terns in my days in Alaska, but not so much seeing them in the desert of Arizona/New Mexico where I live. I actually have a scar on my head from being attacked by an Arctic Tern when I was 7 in Alaska.. a long story. But maybe that is why I like birds :) terns are feisty. Please keep up the great work and enthusiasm in your videos. I always enjoy them.
Thanks Bruce, yes a lot of fun and we were lucky these Terns are used to humans so they take no notice of us. Sorry to hear about your incident. Yes, the lens for its price works well, it has weaknesses which I will address in the review. Cheers, Duade
Such a fantastic video!!! As a beginner, I found it very helpful to see you guys in action, and then seeing raw shots and how they are transformed. Keep up the great work!
Tath was fine to see. Jan, did you also eat from the BERRIES. Like the Goose. Red face, nice to see. But the 800 mm and TC 1.4 made me hopeful. Thanks for the show
Thank you for sharing your morning with us. Enjoyed watching you both and seeing all the impressive images of the birds and their behaviors. Looks like an amazing spot and you had it all to yourselves!
Love this video. I was at the Nobbies in early December and saw this colony, but I was with a school group and didn't have the opportunity for photography. I have on order the 200-800, so looking forward to its arrival. Keep up the great work, I enjoy every video and look forward to the next one.
Thanks mate, a great spot for sure, it was very busy during the evening due to the penguins but in the morning we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Have fun with the 200-800 when it arrives. Cheers, Duade
So, is this your new favorite lens and will it be your go to travel lens for wildlife photography ? Looks like a lot of fun producing some great images 😀
For me it’s in 3rd place behind the RF 600 L IS and the 100-500, but I will use it a lot. Especially when I am not wanting to use my big lens but want the reach
@@jan_wegener and what about the RF 800mm f11 which I have ? It’s extremely light weight, more packable and has I nice manual focus ring unlike the 200-800mm, is it still worth having as oppose to selling it for almost half new ?
Fantastic collaboration with you and Jan! I have been very skeptical about the small apertures on the Canon 200 - 800 mm lens. However, you have both shown that under the right lighting conditions the lens performs exceptionally well! Great images!
A fun day for sure and some great images. Hopefully we can repeat it soon. The lenses did really well.

Thanks Winston, it was a lot of fun and yes I too love that gull vs tern shot. The lens for its price is great, a few weaknesses which I will mention in the review but happy so far. Cheers, Duade
Gorgeous photos gentlemen! Surprised that Duade is not using a battery grip with the R5.
My pleasure Mike, in reality the 1.4 is too much for BIF but great for the portrait shots. Overall a very enjoyble time, Cheers, Duade
You two look like you had a ball. How refreshing to watch a couple pros simply enjoying themselves. Thanks for sharing the time with us
Our pleasure!
You two are my favorite RUclips creators!
Am loving it . Am
In the Galápagos Islands and it’s doing a great job supporting me
Two of my favorite guys having a great time and capturing so many wonderful images. The joy exudes from both of you and makes the entire video all the more beautiful and enjoyable. Many, many thanks for sharing this terrific experience!
Thanks Ray, it was a lot of fun and always nice to have someone else who shares the same passion. Cheers, Duade
Thanks mate, yes, the eye tracking is very helpful for sure, yes, that was the first year for the colony so I am sure it will continue. Cheers, Duade
Tern, tern, tern; to everything there is a season. Great to see you two together.
Cheers.
Congrats on the lens, for the price its great, a few weaknesses but overall a great lens for people to enjoy. Cheers, Duade
Thanks Norman, yes, I will be for the review, along with a few other lenses also. Cheers, Duade
Nice to see you taking terns with your shots, good cobbers
Well that was fun. As soon as the video was over, I jumped on Google Maps to check out where you were. Zoomed in on the "Nobbies View Point" Thanks for the continuing accolades on the 200-800 lens. Getting closer to actually pulling the trigger on ordering one for myself. Guess I'll be on a waiting list ! Nice work boys !
Used to see peregrines sitting at the lookouts along that road all the time. Got some great portraits
Another excellent video, full of useful tips and humor.
Double the fun! You guys are the most authentic and most informative photographers on RUclips so it’s great to see you doing this together and have so much fun. Thanks for sharing your passion.
Our pleasure, Cheers, DUade
Thanks for another great video from my two Australian super photographers. Great to see how the lens performs with the extenders in your skilled hands. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Per Christensen, Denmark, Northern Hemisphere.
Thanks Per, it was a lot of fun, Cheers, Duade
The final shot followed by the original raw, is so helpful. Really great idea to showcase your thought process and end result.
Fantastic guys. great to see you just enjoying the day and a lovely bit of sunshine to brighten a dull grey winter in the uk. Hopefully it brightens up tomorrow to put my new r7 and 100/500 through its paces
It’s great to see two of my favorites together. Thank you both for a fun and informative video. I’m glad you’re mates!
Two of the very best wildlife photographers I know of. Thanks, guys, for another entertaining and very informative video .
I always enjoy when you produce videos with Jan. What a blast of an episode!
I follow you both! cheers from the other side of the world, dominican republic 💪
Quel plaisir de partager cette session de photographie avec vous deux. C’est incroyable, thank you very much for this living and lovely video 😊
Fantastic video Duade.
It makes me happy to see you having a lot of fun like old friends.
It's very nice to know that the 200/800 also works very well with the 1.4x TC.
Thanks again for your work.
HI
Marzio
Thanks! 😃
great video with both of you. my two favorite youtubers. great to know you have the great crested terns. at last one bird we share. i live by the red sea.
John
Thanks John, we had a lot of fun that is for sure and looks to be a nice new colony. Good luck in March, Cheers, Duade
You need more crossover vlogs with Jan. You guys have great chemistry.
Thanks, yes, it was a lot of fun and I would love to do it again. Cheers, Duade
It was a pleasure to see them both doing everyone's passion. Good job on the Rf 200 800 and with a 1.4 extender it works great!
Loved watching you two enjoy the morning! What a perfect video, made me smile the whole time.
Loved the video, as always. Really good point about knowing what type of shot you want, then finding ways to maximize your chances of getting it.
Thanks mate, yes, something you learn over time I think. Cheers, Duade
Thanks for the show
Haha! It’s some medication I have to take unfortunately
Duade should’ve worked the red - desaturation slider a bit harder 😂
Amazing bird shots. Most entertaining video as well, reflecting so much the passion, joy and mastery of the two of you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video - I really appreciate that you show the raw file, then the cropped and sweetened version. Keep up the great work.
I subscribe to both of your channel, so having you two together taking photos is a treat.
