Thank you Jedi Luke! I'm the new owner of an 08 ISF in 2024 and did this replacement right away. The auto pop thing didn't work for my car but never the less it's a world of diffrence vs factory. I love my car just a little bit more now.
Congrats man. The ISF is a beast! As far as the auto pop thing, it's hit or miss. I notice it usually only does it when you use the fob. The main goal was to get stiffer struts to hold the trunk up better. The factory ones are pretty much trash lol.
thank you so much for this video! i got my is350 used and i always thought that was how the car was made and didnt know that the strut was broken lol thanks lots!
Very informative and helpful video. I had the same problem with my Lexus and ended up buying the same parts you did. Now that they’re both installed, it goes up easily by itself but now it does take a little effort to push and close all the way. Other than that, this was very helpful and worked!

LMAOOO What an awesome video man! I love the ingenuity using Kia parts haha I can't even imagine how you found out those things would work! And the fix is so cheap! Awesome job brother. You deserve to be monetized for this video alone!!
This is very good instruction. Thank you so much, I followed everything from the video. For those who want their trunk to always open automatically, install extra bungie cords, I posted short video on how I did it on my channel
Hi Jedi, I have a 2011 Lexus IS 250 C convertible. Will these work on the convertible? If not, what would you recommend? Your video is awesome by the way! Hope you had a merry Christmas! Jim
@@JIMNGLENDA Merry Christmas to you too. I haven't worked on a 250c so I'm not too familiar with the struts on those. Only advice I can give is take one of the struts off and go up to the store to compare the length to the same part in the video. If they match up then they should work.
@@Jedi_Luke I got the exact ones recommended here. They end up being about 564mm. I returned and got some closer to 550 mm. Hopefully they’ll fit better
How is the fit for the length of the strut? Because I've seen a few videos before where the strut was slightly too long and it would cause the trunk to be the ever so slightest ajar so they would have to look for other struts
Hi there. I just ordered these on Amazon. Says it fits 2003-2009 sorento. Even with the rubber stopper taken off the new strut itself is like quarter inch too long too. No way I can put it in the hole.
The open by itself thing was a side effect. This is mainly to hold the trunk up better so it doesn't fall on your head. The factory struts are trash. Using the fob was the only way I got it to pop open on its own.
No I just know where to find good deals. Look in rural areas. This is the second IS I've found for cheap. I do run a auto repair business so a car that most people would pass because a repair is too expensive, is the same car I'd buy because I could fix it easily lol.
Hey man quick question, I did the same for a 2007 is 250 but after cleaning the weather guard and checking the inside for anything getting stuck to the trunk it still needs assistance to be lifted up about 2 or 1 inch before it takes off. You think you know what can be done to fix that? Thank you
That's normal. The point of this fix is to not have the trunk heavy anymore. I noticed after a few weeks the automatic open thing only worked when I used the fob to pop the trunk.
Doesn't fit, I borrowed one '03 Sorento hood strut from a salvage yard to test fit on my '06 GS and it wouldn't close. The struts sit vertically on the GS, unlike the horizontal placement of the IS struts.
Dam i tried exactly the same part numbers and installed it and trunk still doesnt open like that. I dont know whats going on. Frustrating to say the least
The point of the struts was to upgrade from the weak factory struts, so the trunk lid doesn't fall on your head. The auto pop up thing is just a side effect, it works for some and doesn't work for others.
@@Jedi_Luke Yes it does. Only the struts are flat. Will not stay up at all. Looking at your video I’m thinking the convertible has a different length trunk lid?
@@inthefogagain yes I would think they are longer for storage of the roof. If it was me I would just replace them with new struts of the same part number. At least that should make them hold the lid up.
A bit disappointed. I purchased the same USA made STABILUS SG250007 (O'Reilly part#) / 4B-0895QR (AutoZone part #) for my 2009 IS250 with the factory trunk lid spoiler and after installing both sides, the trunk lid still can't pop open hands free. After the trunk is unlatched, I still need to assist it upwards about 3-4 inches before It begins lifting up on its own. Could there be something keeping it down after the latch is released? It will not move up much more than .5 - 1cm
Yeah if it's sticking it won't open on its own. Try cleaning your weather stripping and make sure the carpet liner on the trunk isn't getting caught. I mainly did this to get the trunk to hold up on its own vs the OEM struts falling on my head. Having the lid pop up on its own was just an added lucky bonus.
Great work… Have you had any issue with the strut slipping off the very back? I ask this because the OEM struts have an eyelet with a retaining clip, but the ones you installed have ball and socket joints.
