  • I'm really happy when I first see it, but after looking inside it's an old model cordless impact wrench by MAKITA. There is also a charger in the box. The only one problem is the dead battery. I try to revive the battery, but the charger doesn't charge it. Finally, I rebuild this battery by replacing new battery cells.

    Nice!!!
Nickel metal Hydride is actually an improvement over the old Nickel Cadmiums, or Ni-Cads, some people called them....
Tell me you are old, without telling me you are old.... Okay, I owned that tool. It was very nice, and desirable when new. I had that, and a 7.2 volt cordless drill-screwdriver type tool. Both were super nice. I have been a Makita fanboy ever since. I was pretty young then... those were really cool tools back then... Our minds were blown wide open when Makita came out with battery powered tools that really worked, and provided legitimate power & performance for real work....
    Great job on this one!

good restoration. nimh batteries are actually very good. One problem is cell imbalance. One way to correct the imbalance is to solder a 1k ohm shunt resistor across all the cells to be permanently balanced at 1.2 milliamps. the information is from the internet old satellites that operated with nickel batteries.

Perfect refurbishing of both the power tool its self and the battery as well. And since you did rebuild everything, you now have a tool that will last for years. I too enjoy rebuilding such power tools, but usually I buy used DeWalt types that are in need of repair and repair them so all my tools use the same battery types and chargers... Thumbs Up!

It's interesting to see the evolution of power tools, and clean and well thought out the designs were at the start. Now they all must have clunky external batteries, rubber grips that fail quickly, and are required to look like a ray gun that was taken off a space ship. Great job on this restoration, you did that beautiful tool justice!
