Ignore all negative comments because you completed an amazing transformation from a clapped out, burned out piece of junk to a fresh cleanly built cordless, brushless, powerful angle grinder which almost all of the people who wrote negative comments wouldn’t be able to do themselves. It’s not always about time and cost affective value, it is a project with 100% results so ignore the haters and I am not slating the ones who have pointed out of some alternative ways which may or may not help you in future projects I don’t know, all I am saying is you have done a great job and I for one took a lot of positives from it, well done
When you press in bearings, you press on the outer race, not the inner race. this avoids damage to either race and/or the ball bearings in between. Other wise it was a nice job (ignoring the little boo boo of cut leads.)!
This video shows your skill and knowledge, and not for someone like myself to try and duplicate any of it. 👍 On the other hand, it would be much cheaper to buy a battery powered angle grinder. 😂
Considering the amount of customization and time it takes, you're better off with purchasing a new cordless angle grinder. But still, it is worth because it is a one of a kind in its own build. Interesting mod as well as enjoyed watching the the whole customization process. Greetings from India.
First conversion of this type I've seen. Nice. Probably the best quality 18v angle grinder out there. The older tools are just better. No shitty overload/battery/stall protection like most. Hate that on my m12 fuel die grinder, it just stops, I wish it would just bog down, instead it unexpectedly stalls suddenly. Annoying. Nice work man!
I always jump right into the videos you publish. But this time was quite intrigued when you pressed the bearing in by pushing onto the inner ring. Why didn’t you use a socket or something so you avoid damaging it?
Fantastic work, but the lack of a safety release kind of surprised me in this build. Agreed about the flat button to prevent accidental on situations, but that also makes it difficult to turn off too.
As for the idea, it is wonderful and genius, but there is something that I did not like in this work, is the power button and its place is out of reach, you had to put it in one of the place of the coals that no longer exist after this update.
nice job overall the only problem with this it's that after purchase all the necessary parts it's end up costing more than a very new cordless grinder all together plus all the work to putting everything together . But on the other hand it it's a very good to have something custum that no body else has and I really like that .
I genuinly love the fact when making that L bracket thing fit that they used annother angle grinder to do the work. It's fun because while you know the same result could be achieved another way it shows you that said tool type is useful, nicer, or just an easier way to do the same thing.
Good work. An idea for second video: buy a pwm controller and pwm driven motor driver as for rc quadrocopter, with soft start, soft and immediately stop. And good idea for safety is to add a body button to stop instrument if you loose your hand over it.
I had a lot of old pipes and rebar to cut up and from what I read ruclips.net/user/postUgkxPDBfLu68o58Aw85O_J-zIFfjJARBhp-3 this would be the tool for the job. Since I had never used one, I watched a couple of youtube videos and I'm so glad I did. Some really good safety tips, which I followed, and this tool did a splendid job. One good thing to know is the weight of the tool puts just about the right amount of pressure on the metal I was cutting, so I didn't have to use a lot of pressure, which is more likely to jam the tool. It made fast work of my job.
the set of stator core sheets should not be shorted, and you put it in a steel sleeve. This is the first. Secondly, bearings cannot be pressed into the inner race! Third, the wire needs to be wound carefully without twists or creases and as evenly as possible, this is not the case with you. Fourth, the general impression is that you have never held a soldering iron in your hands, not to mention rewinding motors... And everything turned out easy and simple for you))) I don’t believe you)
I’m about half way through and trying to add up the cost of the components, so far. I reckon it’s a little more than the cost of a typical 40v cordless grinder, already, so I’m prompted to ask the question: why?
The idea is not bad, but there are few revolutions... so you will make one cut of reinforcement for half an hour...😅 It's easier and faster to buy at the factory store without worrying - and it will have higher revolutions per minute than your homemade one...
I think you shorted out the laminated stator core with that sleeve you pressed in. You should have insulated it. Now it will generate a lot of eddy currents and slow down the motor, reduce the efficiency and generate heat.
As you are using a brushless controller, maybe it would be easy to add a potentiometer and have proportional control of the RPM. Could be useful to throttle it is some situations, and not all angle grinders have that feature.
Awesome demonstration on why I will NOT try repeating this type of conversion. It's just not worthy and it's way more expensive than buying an old grinder with NiCad battery and convert it to Lithium. If I must go cordless, I would get a Hercules 20V grinder from Harbor Freight for $80, just $10 more than the corded one. They even give 20% off on specific days, like father's day. Otherwise I got to give it to him for his determination. However not too many people have a lathe or machine shop, or even the time ...to perform these conversions.
the fact that you made a more powerful motor out of two smaller ones is extraordinary.
How is that more power if the controller has fixed output current? It lost power because the windings are now rated for ~2x higher voltage...
@@mihkus no they not, he used thicker wire to compensate for longer turns. and yes, motor size gives you the torque that he needs to do his work.
