Virgil gave some insight to this album cover during either an artist talk or an interview. Originally the album was going to be designed by either Takashi Murakami (Graduation cover artist) or George Condo (MBDTF). Virgil was brought in onto the project. Virgil said working with them was like going to art school. In the end, they realized that this album would be one of the last major albums with a major CD release because mp3 became the main form of listening to music. So the stripped down cover not only matches the minimalism of the sound, but also serves as an open casket funeral to the CD as a musical format. TL;DR: the cover is an open-casket funeral to music CDs

Perfect description your dad did on On Sight. First listen to Yeezus i was like what, On sight definitely is one of the best intros in my opinion . The song has grown on me a lot.
Rod Sr. got the typical first reaction to Yeezus. The lyrics are hard and funny. The music is well produced but nothing you would listen to consistently. But then you listen to it a second time, third time, a thousandth time, and you see Yeezus for the absolute masterpiece that it is.
