    Interesting fact, Virgil Abloh helped design the cover of the album. It represented the death of the CD era in music (with the streaming era coming to fruition at the time). The empty CD case with the blank CD inside actually symbolises an open casket of the CD, much like funerals. That's the genius of Kanye and Virgil (RIP).

    One thing I've noticed recently about this album is that On Sight and Bound 2 are both opposite yet perfect bookends for this album, with On Sight being a very hard, intense song cut up by breaks of a much softer sample, whereas Bound 2 is a soft sample song that is interjected by a hard bass more reflective of the rest of Yeezus throughout. Bound 2 is meant for the album. It’s a purposeful contrast as it’s actually musical as opposed to the harshness of the rest of the album. It’s supposed to demonstrate the potential of the romance. It was overall indicative of him finally starting to date Kim and the hope he had for the relationship.

    JUST AN FYI, the effect used on “Hold My Liquor” is called the “Prisimizer” effect. It’s used by fusing any auto-tune and the Antares Harmony Engine (really any harmony multiplier) together. Bon Iver was one of the first artists to use it in his music. Really beautiful sonically 🥰

    • @clay_geo
      @clay_geo 3 года назад +64

      Hold My Liquor isn't Prismizer, just the Antares Harmony Engine software - but they're related. Francis of Francis and the Lights "invented" the Prismizer by controlling Harmony Engine with a MIDI keyboard (obviously the functionality was there already but he was the first known to use it this way). Then he showed this to Justin Vernon of BI, whose engineer Chris Messina recreated the effect in hardware (Eventide H8000). The version that Justin uses on his albums is called the Messina. But on Yeezus it's just Harmony Engine running on an auto setting, no keyboard, which is what really makes the difference.

      @@doitright5819 very similar to his in this videos but that was simply due to me experiencing the music and composition first. It was very different from what I’ve heard of Kanye up until that moment (not to imagine music in general in the early 2010’s). But as I listed again and again and finally looked into the sample he used, it became that much more grounded. It added onto the weight of the song. The original sample is so eerie and just overall morbid so although he changed it up here adds onto the monstrous theme

    The sample used in "On Sight" that plays in the middle of the track states that "He'll give us what we need, but it may not be what we want.". This not only perfectly shows how he knew people would react to the album, but also it explains Yeezus as a whole. The album may not be what people wanted, but Kanye felt that we needed something not done yet by him, and something new in the mainstream world of music, which he definitely brought attention to.

    Charlie Wilson is an old singer. He just continues to make contemporary music. He was the frontman for the hitmaking Funk band The Gap Band. Check out their songs "Early In The Morning," "Outstanding," "Yearning For Your Love" and "You Dropped A Bomb On Me."
    He went solo in the 2000s and is highly in demand for hip hop acts like Kanye and Tyler The Creator.

    Yeezus was the first Kanye album that I listened at launch, and I absolutely loved it. On Sight is such a great intro track because it just let you know that the album is different and that kanye is coming, "yeezy season approaching, fuck whatever y'all been hearing". Also he says to you is not what you want, "he'll give us what we need, it may not be what we want". That is directed at the guys that wanted the same things he did before, some wanted before 808's and some wanted MBDTF.

    I can't express how happy I am that there are dads like this out there. I was beaten by mine my entire life, even tried to kill me by choking me to death recently but I was only letting the abuse occur until recently since I had been groomed by my cousin which in turn caused me to view my father's actions as love since our relationship had been estranged for as long as I can remember. I tried speaking up about being molested by my cousin once or twice, which was very hard to do thanks to the grooming she had been warping my mind with, my father instead called me a "storyteller.'"
    Thank you so much for these videos. It shows me how to support my son and be interested in his hobbies and gives me so much hope for humanity as I've only ever gotten to see/experience the ugliest of it. Kanye helped me survive so goddamn much. Thank you guys for the excellent content.
