This is still to date, my all time favorite Kanye album. What's more impressive is that I was hooked off of my first listen to this album. In retrospect, I never noticed just how hilarious some of these bars were. Loved your wife's reaction and her opinions on each track.
this is a very difficult, if not the most difficult, Kanye album to enjoy off the first rip. it took me a podcast breakdown to understand the work and now I think it's one of his best great channel, dude. I'm looking out for those specific album reviews :D
Brooooo when she mentionned Alors on dance's remix by Kanye she unlocked a memory i had with that track and i went back and added it to my spotify songs...
I personally love the contrast from the lyrics and the instrumentals and feel it further feeds into the god complex on yeezus. I see the lyrics as more of a backdrop to the cinematic experience of the album. They’re there to highlight the instrumentals and give just enough light to his enigmatic vision that if you dig a little deeper it grants you a more rewarding listening experience. I also love how visceral the lyrics are as you don’t hear Yeezus you feel it. It’s definitely more of an emotional and spiritual album to me than intellectual but that’s not to say it doesn’t also make smart observations and commentaries as well.
Just a note on the lyrics, it’s supposed to be very braggadocious and over the top, it's on purpose. Back then, Kanye albums were very thematic with of course the sound but also the lyrics. He’s almost playing a character here who protects himself with overconfidence but deep down is very flawed and insecure. The deepness that you were looking for from a lyrical perspective is there but more thematic. More on exploring arching themes than individual bars. There is a lot here about obviously consumerism but much more. There is a self-awareness of the duality of wanting change and commenting on social issues but also falling victim to it himself.
hey man! appreciate your insight. i personally didnt think the lyrics had to be deep at all. just felt a disconnect between the humorous lyrics and his profound tone on one or two tracks but overall its a minor gripe. after repeated listens it doesnt really affect the experience as much. thanks for checking us out 🙌🏼
I generally hate reaction videos but I stumbled on your channel and absolutely love that someone appreciates kanye the same way I do and that I can watch someone experience kanye tracks for the first time. I’d pay a million dollars to see a video of myself listening to this album for the first time.
cool part about this is you just enough to let her know the backstory / give your opinion but not enough to be a kanye expert so you let her reach her own conclusions and enjoy it in a different way. beautiful album and review
I love this video! Love your knowledge and enthusiasm on this album, it’s one of my favorites of all time. Also love your wife’s love for Aphex Twin. Keep it up!
Trying to listen to this from the perspective of someone who’s never heard it before was awesome. The whole album is lyrically hilarious and way over the top sexual.
On Sight has all that industrial sound then a heavenly soulful part towards the end. That's a foreshadowing to the overall album that is, all the 9 songs with industrial sounds followed by a heavenly soulful Bound 2. Details like these blow my mind.
Fun to watch you two. Haven't heard this album in awhile, but I think it's aging really well imo. I may need to rearrange the order of my favorite Kanye albums.
The sample in the first song saying "this is what you need, it might not be what you want" is kanye saying that this album is needed by his fans/ everyone else and its not what they "want" because this is coming right after MBDTF and the themes and overall story of the album is tied into all the songs is very well done
Hold My Liquor always makes me think of a guy driving across the Las Vegas desert in a black mid-70s convertible at dusk. I’ve never even been west of the Mississippi but that’s what it makes me think of. 🤷🏼♂️
Actually I went to the Grand Canyon when I was 12 with my family and swam in the Colorado River and almost died. I literally haven’t thought about that in decades. Maybe I didn’t actually almost die. Maybe I was just a dumb little kid and thought I was in a worse situation than I actually was in. 🤷🏼♂️
I am a god is intentionally sounding uncomfortable. It discovers Ye‘s demons in relation to his god complex, hedonism and so on. In this case Ye is his alternate self Yeezus - the screaming in the end resembles for me the pain and him being lost in his turbulent life as a mega rap star
Now you just pull me into kanye rabbit hole. I will see your all kanye reaction. Thanks for spreading Ye album to non fans, lot of people judge him without even knowing his music etc. All based on media report, without even given him chance. Ye2024
i think for "i am a god" i'm just amazed as to how he made screaming and what sounds like hyperventilating into a transition into the next part of the song. that's what you need to get. it's so outrageous that it's beautiful
This album is like a cinematic film in a lot of ways. As for the screams in “I am a god,” i always visioned him running through the woods, in an out of mind psychotic break. That to me, makes it very powerful.
you should start her from the beginning, with TCD, and have her listen to his whole discography. It's defiantly the way to get into kanye and the beginning of his career really helps understand the later parts of his discography
Even after all these years, this album aged extremely well. I'd say it aged the best out of all his albums. It's definitely my favorite of his. Also one of the most underrated concept albums of all time.
tnght so underrated i feel they pretty much birthed the EDM trap movement and barely get any recognition. their original ep was really ahead of its time
Yo damn how do you not gave like atleast 400k subs great video Ps u guys should make a vid like this but on donda or tlop - my fave kanye albums along with late registration
That painting behind y’all fucks with me. I can’t stop focusing on the triangle. Is that the point of that? My perspective shifts so often, just seeing the triangle on its side.
Arguably his best album and his most influential. Prob my favorite. You should have her react to all the one's she doesn't know already. MBDTF, TLOP, Watch the Throne, Kids See Ghosts, DONDA, etc. People will watch Kanye reactions always
my favorite ye album but damn yeezus is really a damn insane and weird first album listen to his discography like yeezus really grow on me after multiple listens to be my favorite 😂😂
You should react to older albums that paved the way for hip hop, like The low en theory - ATCQ , Illmatic , me against the world, the chronic, etc , would be easier for her to understand the genre.
Subscribed and instant fan of you guys, love your output on both Kanye Albums, and Molly she’s a great listener and has a good ear for music. Please react to some Mac Miller & Nas. Big Up yourselves! 🙌🏽
I love the sound on I’m in it and it is funny in some of the lyrics, but why I think the production fits is because there is an underlying darkness to the song. Kanye being fully immersed in his addiction and not being able to get out. It doesn’t feel glamorising in any way
There is a character arc throughout this album if you look for it. Though many themes are also similar in TLOP which I feel was executed better. IMO Kanye’s best
Kanye is like a glitch in the music Industry He is like the joker and yeezus is the true essence of Kanye music. My favourite Kanye albums Donda Yeezus Late registration Watch the throne
