- My very first listen to Yeezus by Kanye West. Spoilers... this album rocks!
Kanye West's sixth studio album. I tend to listen to albums out of order simply because I go by the most popular requests. What I've noticed so far is that Mr West is living up to the hype. I avoided all talk/reviews/reactions of this album before listening to it and I will now be interested to see what 'ratings' it got from the so-called experts!
Solid thumbs up from me. The opening track is outstanding and it never really leaves the top of the hill from that point onwards.

What you said about Kanye not being able to sing, but he has an ambition to, was spot on. Autotune has transcended being a tool to secretly achieve perfect pitch, it’s now an instrument that allows you to create beautiful sounds
I was telling my brother yesterday how “singing well isn’t impressive to me anymore”. Autotune and other effects have allowed for so much vocal creativity, and Kanye is the king of using vocals effectively.
Exactly, Blood On The Leaves is my favourite song off Yeezus. And it’s clear that he can’t sing at all, but he’s putting everything into it and you can really feel the emotion in it. The autotune he uses on 808s especially really works to give it that electronic feel
@@zacharyhanson3914 I’d still say singing well is very impressive, but the quality of the song is not defined by the ability to sing. If you’re a good singer but a bad song writer, you’re not a great artist. That’s how I see it

Mercurial 6: “there are serious messages”
Kanye at the same time: “came in her Hampton mouth”
It's funny cuz it's a classic hilarious Kanye brand line but it still is topical and a serious message when you listen to it
Welcome back good sir
RIP Daft Punk. They're the reason we have this album and I'm so glad. (They didn't die, they just split up).
@@prouced.9960 Daft Punk were the lead producers/co-writers of four songs from the record (On Sight, Black Skinhead, I Am a God, and Send it Up) and were the first people Kanye came to to shape the sound of the album.
Rick Rubin was also brought in at the last minute to pretty much salvage the project and make it more minimalistic. He was also the primary producer/songwriter of “Bound 2”. Between him and Daft Punk, it bears repeating that Kanye isn’t exactly a singular force, like many people want to believe.
@John Short
True, early on he was far more singular, but his music was also a bit more conventional and certainly less elaborate. Once that album was such a success, he started having the clout and resources to pull people in to do the kind of heavy lifting he couldn’t really manage as a songwriter, and it’s just progressed further in that direction ever since. MBDTF especially is just a product of committee. He assembled dozens of producers and collaborators who contributed very heavily to that thing. He just happened to be the guy to put that team together, but it really wasn’t like he was orchestrating everything, and certainly not like he wrote and arranged all that stuff. “Devil in a New Dress” is maybe the best song on that album, and he didn’t produce that one at all. He only rapped over it. Then there’s Kid Cudi being a major hand in 808’s direction, Daft Punk and Rick Rubin on Yeezus, Chance the Rapper helping with the gospel sound of Pablo, and countless other producers, artists, and arrangers who have heavily shaped or straight up made entire songs for the dude, but the public gives him all the credit. It’s a total Steve Jobs facade of populist interpretation, putting one guy’s face and name on the work of many. Whenever he does attempt to be sole producer these days, it’s usually pretty weak or undercooked. The music is (mostly) good, and he’s a creative guy who gets things done, but he’s so not the Brian Wilson-esque musical genius everyone wants to think he is.
@@HQBacon fuck i didnt know lol thx for telling me

I've learned the hard way not to do so. Especially when I was trying to read every single Genius annotation of the lyrics. I was too focused on making sure I got the full context of the lyrics, that I ended up not fully enjoying the listening experience of an album.
First time I heard Dirty Sprite 2 by Future I did this and I hated it. Second time I just listened to it for what Future was sonically trying to deliver and it hit me. Learned my lesson. There are times to read lyrics and it’s not all the time.

The crazy thing is that Yeezus was the album that fully got me into Kanye’s music. At the time it came out I was transitioning from listening to stuff like Nu Metal/Industrial Metal/ Death Metal. I remember my friends who were diehard Kanye fans since his first 3 albums would clown me for saying this was my favorite Ye album at that time 💀
Music simps and Kanye haters despised this album when it came out, saying it was nothing but noise and braggadocio. There was simply no appreciation for the nuance involved or its success in creating a unique soundscape.
