    I had a problem with melty cells last summer, and I concluded that because I was near the end of my boring medium batch. I probably hadn’t fully started up as I was using it and by the time I got to the bottom, it was more of the varnish unless the Valspar I use. So number one I always mix my PM really thoroughly and when I get to the bottom, I even will add a little extra Valspar to the mixture to counteract any extra varnish that might be in there. I think bottom line it happens when there’s too much varnishedto paint ratio.

    • @PiecesofTaraArtistry
      @PiecesofTaraArtistry  6 месяцев назад

      Yes that could very well have been the issue! That varnish can be trickie! Especially with valspar since it is already thin. ☺️❤️

    The interplay between matte and gloss can be what creates really interesting cells. Using a satin or matte varnish could possibly fix the issue of melty cells during the drying phase. I have had melty cells as well. Now I wet my pigments with satin varnish only. Also, I agree with the comment re stirring the PM really well before using it each time.
    This is true as well for the satin and matte varnish. The ingredient that suppresses gloss falls to the bottom of satin and matte varnish. Stir well before each use.
    Thank you so much for this video! I learned a lot!

    Oh that stupid straw😅😅😅. Tara, I don't like to use varnish because of the melting look. Put I use a tiny bit to mix the pigments only. I do use tube colors in between a few pigments because I feel it helps keep cell shape. Gosh, I wish I could be there in your next class. If I can't, I wish you the best. You are an amazing instructor. Love you❤❤❤

      @@OAKbyBetina lol! Yea that stupid straw! 😂😂😂 I can’t even use varnish in my pigments. It’s terrible! I use gac 100 though to wet them so at least I have that! Like you I use tubes in between to and that helps. I will be in Dallas next so I really hope to see you there! Otherwise maybe the next one! Much love girl! ❤️❤️❤️

    I just found your channel and started following you, and Boy am I glad I did! You do such a thorough job of explaining your processes and recipes and all the nuances. Thank you! Have you ever used Modern Masters Metallics to get pearls? I wanted to try to replicate one of your pearl/modeling paste paintings, but instead of Obsidian and black, I wanted to try Modern Masters Emerald as the base and maybe gold on top. Would Modern Masters Metallics react the same way as DecoArt Extreme Sheen Obsidian? Thank you again!!

    • @PiecesofTaraArtistry
      @PiecesofTaraArtistry  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much Kathryn! So I’m not sure how the MM would work in the basecoat. It would probably work as your pour over colors but you would have to test that out. I have never used them as a base color and I have never used the emerald specifically. Each paint is different and even a different color within the same paint line may react totally different than other colors. You would just have to test it out to know for sure. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help! ❤️☺️🙏🏻

    It's so funny that a lot of people are having trouble at the moment. Do you think the summer and your humidity level has anything to do with the varnish melting?

    • @PiecesofTaraArtistry
      @PiecesofTaraArtistry  6 месяцев назад

      Hey Jess! Sooo…this has been an ongoing problem for me for about a year and 1/2. It doesn’t matter the time of year get melty cells. I think part of it is the pouring medium I use is thin (Valspar) and varnish thins it even more so I get melts. I am starting to get to think Valspar and varnish just don’t play well together. That’s why I’m so happy to have found the dynasty because it thickens my pm. I find if I don’t use varnish even with the thin pm the cells don’t melt. I’m not exactly sure what the problem is but it’s awfully frustrating. As I know it’s frustrating for you!

    • @WinterStromArt
      @WinterStromArt 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@PiecesofTaraArtistry Frustrating is an understatement. I was very scared when 2 out of two cans of dynasty were totally different the pink tone is gone and it's thinner. I'm waiting for my Home Depot to get a new batch delivered. I love the way your cells look with you new pm.
