SheleeArt Blooms EASY 1:1 RECIPE! (Single) Ingredient Messing up your Cell Activator! 🤯

  • The Shelee Art bloom technique is a fan favorite. I've started a mini series (check out the first episode: • Shelee Art BLOOM HACK!... ) In this video we're created a pouring medium using no house paints and cell activator with no Australian floetrol. There is a lot of info in the video so here are some thoughts and questions I answer throughout:
    - ONE SIMPLE INGREDIENT THAT COULD BE DESTROYING YOUR CELLS
    - Challenges with fading cell activator
    - Are your colors looking washed out?
    - How to extend the life of your cell activator using American Floetrol
    - How can I further this experiment?
    - Thinning American Floetrol
    0:00 Intro
    1:00 Pouring Medium Recipe
4:38 Cell Activator using American Floetrol
    6:55 Cell Activator Trick
    7:55 Pillow Paint and Bloom
10:18 Pillow Paint no house paint
    13:10 Troubleshooting Tips
    13:24 Results From Experiment
    16:43 Australian Floetrol Experiment Comparison
    ** Pros and Cons **
New Pouring Medium (1:1) and a small bit of Super heavy gloss gel medium: American Floetrol is readily available in many places. ‪@MixedMediaGirl‬ Pouring medium is made by a small business (support small businesses) and maybe available worldwide.
Homemade base paint (pillow) Recipe by volume: 7 Ounces American Floetrol | 4 Ounces Artist Loft Soft Body (I misspoke in the video and said 3) | 1 Ounce of Amsterdam Titanium White | 1 Ounce of Jo Sonja Gloss Varnish
I found this pouring medium to have more bubbles than other recipes. It may be necessary to let your paints rest a bit longer. This recipe is specific to tube paints (beginner to intermediate paints) like Amsterdam and Master's Touch. The halo reaction doesn't' show nearly as much with this recipe.
Minwax Pre-Stain Conditioner is toxic. Please use this product in a well ventilated area.

I’ll be darned, I’ve never seen ANYONE demonstrate the efficacy of the activator by the cells left on the stick after scraping it. Very cool!!
I liked the cells created using the Artist Loft instead of house paint but think I do prefer the bigger cells. My main take aways from this is that I don’t HAVE to use Aussie floetrol and now know how to check my activator to see if the stuff will even give me results I like. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I definitely subscribed and am so glad to see a guy doing fluid art that I love. ❤

    Love your energy!
My understanding is that the mixed media girl pouring medium is simply glue and little bit of gloss medium. It’s super expensive to purchase it from her versus just making it yourself. Also, there have been a ton of alternate ingredient ideas out there for the bloom technique, but whenever I compare, finished results, the house paint, and Aussie floetrol ones always seem to look better.

    • @GarrickBrownArtStudio

Thanks for watching! I definitely feel where you are coming from with the Aussie flow. I have a couple blooms that side by side you cannot tell but definitely agree with you that the aussie/untinted is the best BUT I recognize its not available for everyone and ppl simply just eant options and I totally get that too haha. Nowwww I will say I am working on a new recipe that is very promising. So far it is producing some really great results. Much love to you! ❤️

I enjoyed your video very much. However, I want to mention you are mispronouncing Linseed Oil. It is pronounced with a short I sound like “Lenny” so said like in Lynnseed Oil. I may try it but I want to note that Linseed Oil is used a lot in oil paints and it takes at least a month to completely cure before you can resin it if you want. I would imagine that if you did resin coat before it was completely cured (not just dried) the paint could lift or bubble up. It could also develop cracks over time. I am 72 with years of painting under my belt. It is different from silicone and silicone would only take one or two drops. This was just some info for you. Happy painting.
