I have been watching the start of this build and was going to comment about adding heim to bottom and top of third link. I have a three link on a lowered Sierra and it has the heirms and articulates and keeps wheels planted on the ground. Thanks for showing the difference. Interesting how the bushings flex. Either way I think it will work.

  • @davidfarmer

18:55 well your upper joint's threaded section was spinning in the bung, and tightening the nut really wont stop it from doing so. I would say no you don't have enough articulation. if you are dead set on bushings, get dual durometer bushings from synergy, they can actually flex and also require no grease.

I love your videos Austin. I like watching you do all those things you do i.e. the powder coating. I have a 2001 SR5 with flared fenders. The body is gloss black and I'm going to plastic coat the fender flares flat black. I think the contrast will be cool. I also did the headlight retrofit but with LED's instead of HID. I installed those black rear tail lights and they look so good against the gloss black paint. I need to clay bar it though. The paint is terrible. I replaced most of the suspension, new bumpers (they were rusted out from the inside). I'm going to be 76 in August and I just love working on it. It only has 147,000 miles on it so it's going to last longer than me (maybe lol). Thank you and keep pluggin away...............Bill in Wilmington, NC.

Might want to consider mounting your front shocks on top of the plate you welded in instead of under. All of the front end weight is now going to be held up by just those bolts instead of distributing it across the base of the lca.

Hey Devin, the powder most likely turned out darker than you wanted because you are spraying it on when the part is too hot. When you do this you cant control the amount of layers of powder compared to just using the electromagnetism of the gun. Thats why the powdercoating shops dont use "hot flocking"

    • @bake162
      @bake162 2 года назад

Looking killer dude and cannot wait to see it done. This world needs more mini trucks and glad to see another one back on the road! The cherry is bang on ties the bronze and black together really nicely. A lighter red would have distracted or clashed with the bronze.
I won't get into colour theory too deep but if your curious... The hue (colour) compliments the bronze and the shade (darker colour) pulls from the black frame & wheels. This creates a nice harmony, in my opinion, and creates a pop of visual interest. (You may have to look twice to actually tell it's not black.). Going with a tint (lighter colour) would compliment & highlight the little bit of chrome and why I think it would be distracting.

    New camera vs old camera:
New is smoothed, old is a little shaky. (Software exists to fix this in post, but that's also an extra step.)
New looks like a cheap small lens with a small sensor, old looks super pro image sharpness and quality.
New is probably super convenient, old is big and clunky.
New - you're looking at the screen a lot instead of the lens and it's a bit distracting, old you obviously don't.
Maybe use your new one for the selfie shots (but don't look at the screen) and the old one for tripod stuff, as it has way better image quality.
Honestly, we'll watch either way. Love your videos.

Try putting adding heims on the trailing ends of the two lower arms and then test again. you will see a bigger difference. Most high end suspension builders Ride tech/Global West will use this combination or heims on both ends. Such a light truck anyways it won't hardly move around. If you were on bags I'd do heims for less binding movement.

Looks great 👍... As for bushings v hiem joints. Correct... 4WD. / Racecar definitely the hiem joint period. Being a street truck 2WD the bushings will work just fine. One advantage of the bushings is noise... softer .... little more forgiveness. Hiem joints are solid... can be a little noisy during movement.. firm / solid and a little less forgiveness. However both will work on this application just fine. Install grease fittings every where you can. Next is good bushings for the body. Same thing.. soft rubber is forgiving and not as stiff and solid.. less noisy.
This is a fun project. Enjoy watching it come together 😎👍

I was hoping you were going to use the original wheels that were on it for that 80s vibe. Honestly, I would only consider heims on the links attached to the axle the rest being bushings would be fine. I only say that for wear purpose but it's probably not going to be driven daily like most of us would. It'll probably be fine the way it is. Love this build so far.

Heims will allow for more flex but they will get noisy. Poly bushings will squeak too but you have grease fitting so they should be quiet. Personally. On a street truck, I would stay with all of the poly bushings. I would not do heims. I’m minimizing the number of heims on my offroad rig (doing builder/flex joints).
