My Week as a Car Dealer - What Could Go Wrong? | James' Video Diary | AI Car Dealership Ep.11

- This week I've decided to film a little update on my AI Car Dealership Project myself. Excuse the editing, I'm no pro, but thought it might be a nice way of giving you a behind the scenes look at how I'm getting on buying and selling cars.
In this Video Diary update you can join me as I buy a Nissan Qashqai, get it cleaned, photographed, videoed and advertised on Auto Trader. I deal with some problems with cars that I sold and try to look after the customers, try and fail to buy a VW Golf, and hand over another car to a buyer. It's been a busy week considering this is my second job.
Apologies for the basis editing skills. Our more lavish updates will make a return soon when Jon gets round to editing them. We've got some good ones coming up.
Let me know if you enjoyed this style of update in the comments and if you do I'll film some more. And check out the rest of our series in this dedicated playlist on our RUclips channel: • The AI Car Dealership ...
Another great video mate, im keeping busy now that Iv picked up 2 of the cars that will be sold in the trade, il be happy to free up some money to buy something i could actually enjoy picking preparing and helping selling on for a decent profit!
Brilliant thanks
Top man, I did 20 years in the motor trade within main dealers and a couple of super markets, including 2 years as a sole trader. The latter is god damn hard work as a one man band, hence I'm now gainfully employed and a million miles away from that awful unforgiving industry. I send you my blessings for your perseverance. 👍🙏
Thank you. It’s very hard work that’s for sure. But I’m thoroughly enjoying it nonetheless
One man band is definitely difficult, the job is a lot better when theirs a few of you for sure.
@@Badr.k42 I’ve no doubt. Would love some help. I’ll get it eventually!
Great insight into the trade and what it twkes to get off rhe ground. Top work ❤
Interesting video James! I hope you'll continue with these videos!
Thank you! Will do some more that’s for sure
Is that a cheeky GT3 in the garage? Nice one James, good to see a good guy do well 👍
@@CT-oe1ug it might just be - next to a mighty Suzuki Celerio. Which are you choosing? And thank you. Glad you enjoyed it
@@CarDealerMagazineCeleriac of course… I’m not in the trade as I couldn’t deal with the stress of cars going wrong for customers. I struggle to buy anything other than Lexus and Toyota these days as my JLR cars ruined me for life! I’ve enjoyed this series as you don’t pretend to know everything and you are genuinely trying to do things right. Thanks for taking the time.
@@CT-oe1ug Thank you. I really am. But believe me it is definitely stressful. I've moaned about that a lot on our Podcast (Car Dealer Podcast). But like I said in this video, I've learned to accept that used cars do go wrong - and customers understand that as long as you look after them and put them right. And if you want a test drive of the Suzuki I can do you a great deal haha!
I’ll have to subscribe to the pod. I imagine there’s a significant delta between how discerning a customer is on the detail when they are buying from you versus when they are selling… 🍻
@@CT-oe1ug huge! Buying is the hardest bit
I love the fact the you provide a cheeky bribe to provide a good review. As a HoB of a main dealer the manufacturer have a real issue with this to provoke a positive response! The motor industry is a fascinating business (I’ve been in it for 34 years). I’m really interested to see how AI can assist…I’m now going to watch the other videos in the wrong order to catch up, all the very best!
I send them a card as a thank you and send the cakes and tea as a thank you for buying from me too with a note about how the reviews work. It seems to do the trick
Want to see these every week please :)
@@jasonrobinson_ there’s two more to watch after this one 😀
Got recommended this video from RUclips, I'm only across the water from you in Portsmouth. New subscriber now
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Great video James and thanks for the mention on @dealerkit - good luck with the arrival of Mini Baggott 🎉
@@iancooper4665 thank you! And big fan of the DMS. I recommend it to all #NotAnAd
Great video James! It’s nice to see a video on how hard some of us try as dealers to get things right and also when it doesn’t go to plan the speed we try to correct any problems
Thank you! We certainly do try hard!
Put some white screw caps on the front number plate, small things make all the difference :)
Super stuff James, glad the delivery arrived with you ok and you got everything you need. The Nissan came up great, looks superb even Martin was impressed 😀
Pro Tip: decant the Radiant Wax Polish from a large, unwieldy 5L tin to an easy to use smaller bottle, makes things a lot easier -😉
Enjoyed the video
@@markpierce8674 thank you. I’ve been inspired to keep them up
A regas will always be expensive, as there is a leak that needs fixing. Unless someone got in there and stole the gas. Lol.
Really good video, please do more
@@vistaro thank you! I certainly will
Most common is the condenser has a leak sometimes this can be visible with a UV light or even just by looking closely, that's if the garage did their job right putting die in on the recharge. From what I've seen using Autotrader to price cars and AI to run business is not a great idea...
Thanks for the tip. The problem was the machine the garage use to put the dye in had broken. I must say so far the AI and Auto Trader data has been very successful. You'll see in my next video how well it worked when we bought some cars on Motorway. But I get it's different and there are far more experienced people out there than me. I had to use the data available to me to help guide me, that's all
@@CarDealerMagazine Hi, James I understand your finding your way it was easier for me because been in the trade all my life I left 2016 because of pricing policy & quickly found you don’t need to be on there to sell cars, it can be done a lot cheaper with same results. Investing in a code reader will save you money you can scan cars for hidden codes before buying finding any problems, it only takes a minute and they are not expensive these days, and buying from through motoway it’s easy to do, Vehicle Score can be helpful as well for a quick check. Good Luck
@@jontheodore8450 thank you!
Great video - I'm on a similar journey but with older vehicles (although I've now started selling 15 plate vehicles). Do you offer finance to customers and if so, who do you recommend using? Keep up the great content 👍
Thank you. It’s hard work isn’t it? I don’t offer finance at the moment. Until I get to the point where I need a site I won’t be able to as you can’t be FCA regulated at home. I focus on keeping my cars under £7k retail as that’s pretty much the ceiling, I think, for buyers purchasing with their own funds. When I have cars over £8k they tend to sell slower and I guess that’s as a result of not being able to offer finance. Good luck with your journey. I’ll certainly be doing more of these types of video as I enjoyed doing it and putting it together
@CarDealerMagazine it's very hard work. I would love to do it full time but I find the market can be so erratic and unpredictable, it's just too scary to take the leap! Interesting that you're selling cars for those prices and customers are still paying the whole amount up front. I've had customers ask if I offer finance on £3k cars 🤣. Again, creat content. Look forward to seeing more video diaries 👍
Hi, I really enjoyed the video, I'd love to see more of the same. Pete-Turnbridge Autos Ltd
@@petewatson4093 thanks Pete. Appreciated!
Wear a helmet James! 😉
Don’t worry it’s firmly in place!
