100% agree, it's never about the gear it's all about the light. Saying it's about the gear is like saying a stove makes food delicious where in fact it does not. Great work Jason!
Omg that switch in the first 15 seconds was one of the best hooks I’ve seen 😄 thanks for this setup! I’d just ordered the Sigma 30mm so I’m so glad I came across your video!
Thanks Jason, you taught me so many things, I have a Sony A6000 and now I'm setting up a RUclips studio and I was thinking about lighting, but from what I've seen, Godox is the best at this price.
I've already got my answers in this video. specially Sony Alpha 6000 and the lens. Its a cheaper way to start the photography. Thank you again for all your help.
Good tips, the only thing I'd recommend is if someone has an A6000 and they're wanting to start vlogging while this is a solid gear recommend list, it might be worthwhile to list a productive order of acquisition as most people pick up gear over time and not in one go. I'll happily throw my recommendations out and there and would encourage others to do so; 1) Camera w/lens/power/media 2) Audio - Rode SmartLav is a great starter lav, Rode VideoMic Go is a great little 3.5mm sub $100 shotgun mic. 3a) I'd suggest a couple cheap RGB lights (like from Viltrox) first, then the Godox 60W (which is a cracker light for the price). You can light initially with the small RGB's, just bring them in close. Then later go for the Godox and the move the smaller lights to catch light/hair light/background colour source etc. I've always found it smarter if you can plan to dual-use something, so when you retire its primary purpose you already have another way to use it in mind. 3b) Experiment or crawl through google for homemade lighting modifers, opaque shower curtains are a great source for starter diffusion. I've used baking paper over LED panels before and black bedsheets to block and cut light, stop bounce etc. 4) Tripod - you can get them dirt cheaper for talking head stuff. Zomei do cheap ones with a cast metal ballhead. Very nice for sub $50. 5) External monitor - you can't use natural light if you can't see changing lighting conditions. Feelworld make solid 5" monitors for low cost.
6:53 Thanks for your work on this, I am shopping settings of this camera for a client. Just a quick note on ISO ranges. Lowering your ISO to the lowest setting is NOT and should not be a rule of thumb. In this case for the a6000 you can get away with it. However there is a reason most cameras have a "Native ISO", meaning a ISO range that is recommended to get the highest quality image and most Dynamic Range possible. Most cameras its 800, some 400. So going lower than the Native ISO can actually be a negative thing. Just something to consider for future.
Dude! Thanks for the great advice. Very helpful. I have an a6000 that’s just collecting dust. Now I’m going to try to set mine up to do a video. Thanks for the inspiration. Hopefully you will do more on what settings are best. And if you have already done one I’ll probably be looking at it after typing this message!

How do you get such amazing colors from a6000? I tried to film in daylight with good lighting using "creative style" to wash out video and bring out colors in editing, but I can't get good realistic colors in video editor. Maybe you can create a video about that? How you film and edit video for a6000 camera. As I understand, the Sony a6000 don't have video profiles, so all the instructions I found like slog3 is not applicable for it.. 😕
It's nice that when your video went from looking like crap to amazing, the sound improved too. Goes out to show how fixing image fixes sound too. Bravo 🤣

Hey Jason! What do you recommend about focus settings for Sony a6000? Specially for outdoor footages, windy, sunny, nature....I just learn how to make video and my first problems are with continuous focus:). Thank you
The A6000 can only shoot at 1080 . And your video is in 4k. How is this possible? The light on the background is beautiful, the shape of your body is perfect. But the shape of the face is slightly disfigured by the light of the softbox. Try using matting wipes before the video to reduce the effect of glare on the face

That's a great video, I have an a6000 and I am struggling so much to get nice quality videos out of it, I did get some lights, not the same ones you talked about, it's the VILTROX VL-200T, and I can't attach a softbox, do you think I will have to buy new ones?
i love this video and going right to work with it in mind, however, i believe the stand that holds the light & softbox should also be talked about cos pairing the godox sl60sw and a 120cm softbox is very heavy for standard stands... don't u agree?
I always edit on the 4k timeline. 2:1 aspect ratio. My export settings are very basic as I choose 4k Vimeo settings and do a few little tweaks to resizing and a few checked boxes for higher render quality

And if I record on my smartphone with lav mic, how can I synchronize the audio and video together to be a good quality? Thanks in advance! All that concerning video lessons.
sony has a proprietary mic that can be connected to the top of the a6000 like the Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone. Otherwise, any video editing software can sync audio from your smartphone with the audio on your Sony a6000..
