How to import video recordings from the sony alpha a6000 mirrorless digital camera onto a 2019 dell inspiron 5000 series laptop? I hope this channel grows tremendously
Just got an A6000. My first proper camera. Your videos are so helpful so thanks. I take mostly photos of bands I book for charity gigs and always post in black and white. Will I shoot in black and white or edit after. I have been using Raw/ jpeg mode. Any suggestions for shooting gigs especially with low light would be cool. Thanks again 👌😎
Invest in a lens rather than the kit lens! depends on what type of events, but an f1.8 will open up a new world of possibilities! also thank you so much!
The button at the bottom that looks like a “play” button. Then use the center button to play / pause, and the left and right to teeing / fast forward.. Also if you. If you can only see the photos and not videos, go to menu, then I believe the tab with the play button, and then go to folder view, and choose the video folder. You’re looking for VIEW MODE. Then you’ll be able to see the videos!
Another awesome video. I know a lot of pros that use aperture priority mode 90% of the time. I guess different strokes for different folks. Keep’em coming.
Hey Kyle! I know I'm a bit late to this video, but I have a quick question. When you're in Aperture mode, what is the best f-stop to be in? Will it depend the lens? Location? Setting?
Depends how much you want in focus, and how much light you need to expose the frame properly. The f stop determines the focus plane. For example, if you’re at f5.6, the focus plane is deeper. (Think distance from your camera). If you have your lens at f1.4, the focus plane is a lot more shallow. Also, in terms of exposure, the higher the f stop, the less light is brought in. The lower the f stop, then there is more light brought in. 🙌🏻
hikyletaggart *derp* I just realized what I typed. Yeah, I own an a6000. My friend gifted me the camera along two additional attachable lens of (differing length). I would like to know why and when I should use them.
Well the focal length has a couple reasons for different situations. A wider focal length (lower number) for a bigger scene, a longer focal length (higher number) for a tighter view. Also wider lenses so better close up. Longer lenses compress the background more (bokeh/blur). A 50mm on the a6000 is a great Portrait length. 35mm is well suited for a lot of things, street photography, portraits, travel, and a 16mm is good for landscape, Astro, architecture, ect.
The blurred background.. Is it onli for objects which are close range or if the object is like 5 metres away from the camera can still get good focus n blurry background? I use a6000 with 16mm f 1.4 prime
That does matter but you can also get a blurry background by having the background be further behind the subject. So say a person in a field 5 meters away from camera, but then mountains behind the person in the far distance, you’ll be able to blur those at f1.4 well. Also for future reference, lens compression gives a better blurry background too. So you’ll see more blur or a “creamier” background at longer focal lengths. Like 50, 85, 100, ect
Hi! it is another topic, but I want to ask you. In "Creative styles" there are choices between "standard" and "vivid" (excluding other ones). So, when i point the camera to a dark spot and set it to "vivid" i lose details in shadows, but if change it to "standard" i can see more details in shadows. Does it mean i can win 1 or 2 ISO stops in low light if set to "standard" as apposed to "vivid"? Or is it just my imagination? Sorry for my lame english Thank you!
Interesting. I’d say take a look after you take them on a computer or a bigger screen. Vivid is darkening the image. It’s more contrast. Also, if you want the most out of the dynamic range of the camera (highlights / shadows), I’d suggest you shoot RAW rather than jpeg. Then you can edit later and retrieve things. However it also depends on how you expose the image.
Excellent video! Great stuff! If you don't mind my asking: what Gimbal Stabiliser would recommend (if any)? Also: If you can recommend one (just one) extra lens to this camera, what would that be?
I’m not super familiar with gimbals. But I know tons of people love the weebil lab one (newest one). Also the lens question, I guess if you could only have one, it would be the 16-55 f2.8. Very pricy though. Or 18-105mm f4, less pricy. If we are talking a fixed focal length I’d go Sony 35mm f1.8.
@@kyletaggart Thank you very much Kyle for the super prompt reply! I'd just bumped into this video when I then realised you've created a whole universe around photography. I need some time to catch up! :) Thanks again! Congrats for the awesome job!
I do not. But should be micro usb cable to computer and then you can access it just like you would if you plugged in an SD card or external hard drive. I’d suggest getting a usb SD card reader.
A good first lens is the Sony 50mm f1.8, a great street photography lens is the Sony 35mm f1.8, but it’s more expensive. The Sigma 30mm f1.4 is also an excellent choice for street photography.
Hey Kyle, I'm back lol. I wanted to knw if you have a video explaining the difference on using a "fe" lens on the a6000 or a6300? Thanks in advance 🙏🏾 🙏🏾 🙏🏾
I recently brought the FE 28-70MM which is a F/3.5-5.6 lens. The lowest mine goes wide open is like F/4.5, I think it does that because it is on a crop sensor body and it's not using its whole cut out (the back of the lens) space is the reasoning why it's a completely one whole F/stop down. Now I hope I explained that last part good. The 28-70MM is a really great lens to start with (especially for the price point) if you are thinking about going FF in the future. It has became my native Sony goto lens in my collection. (16MM, 18-55MM, 55-210MM). Good luck!
@@guystokes454 thx you. I bought a fe 1.8 50mm lens from the pawn shop for my a6300. Then saw something saying that "FE" are full frame lense, thought to myself dam I bought I bought the wrong lense. I appreciate the response.
It can try its best for macro, you can also use “clear image zoom” which is a feature - to zoom in more. I have videos in macro lenses for the a6000 and a video on cheap macro tube extensions. 👍🏻
Hi Kyle, I am making a trip to the west coast of the usa this summer. Me and my dad decided to team up and get a camera beforehand, so we got an A6000. I have been practising shooting with it for a while now. Do you think I should take my pictures whilst on holiday in A-mode? I want to use them for my Instagram and portfolio. Also, do you think shooting in RAW is really neccesary? It uses up a lot of space.. Have a great weekend.
Awesome questions and I did a similar trip! (See old vlogs). If you don’t want to edit photos afterwords, or only want to do junior editing, then jpeg is perfectly fine. However if you have a shot that’s super bright and you want to fix it, RAW is the way to go. RAW is like an a digital canvas that you can tweak to your hearts content over and over, jpeg has baked in processing that allows less editing freedom. However a jpeg May look great straight if of camera, as the camera has done the processing already. If you’re just starting, and / or have one memory card, go ahead and shoot jpeg for now. A Mode is a great way to start, if you’re just shooting jpeg, and just learning, start there. Use A mode, shutter speed is auto, and ISO starts on auto. So then if things are too bright, turn the F number UP 3.5 -> 5.6 and so on to darken an image. Remember, it will bring more of the photo in focus when that number changes. If you don’t want the F number to change, like you have your dad in front of something and you want the blurry background to stay, but things are too bright, take ISO off auto and set it to 100, and then go up from there to achieve the brightness you want. Hope you have an amazing trip! Hope you’re seeing the Grand Canyon, antelope canyon, and horseshoe bend! I saw this places on my west coast trip.
@@kyletaggart Thank you for the kind and honest advice. I personally really like editing and I have become quite good at it, but I can imagine my family (especially my older sister..) wanting to have the photo's during the trip itself so she can post them.. You know how girls can be man, haha. I therefore think my best option would be to shoot in both JPEG and raw. I'll just get an extra SD or 2. Cheers!
I suggest shooting RAW, and then you can do WiFi transfer (and they get converted to jpeg). If you have Lightroom mobile, you can then edit in the fly, in the car, and send em quickly to whomever wants to post. 🙌🏻
Hi, thanks for sharing. Sony A6000 doesn't allow you to flip the screen right? When you're shooting a video, what do you usually use to see yourself while shooting? thanks!
hi probably gonna get an a6000 soon ive heard sony cameras overheat and shut off have you had this problem? my other options are fujifilm x20 or olympus md mark ll
atm i have a nikon d5200 dslr it has 24.1 megapixels i know the sensor matters more than the mp but i dont know of ill see a big difference in loss of quality the only thing id like on this camera is a touchscreen and a flip screen instead of just a tilt screen im planing on using it for pics more than vids
Sony a6400 or Canon M50 are more up your alley than (both have flip screens and the M50 has a full touch screen). The a6000 only overheats when doing longer than 15 min. video in a hot/room temp environment. Also Sony makes Nikon’s camera sensors, not sure if they made that specific one, but Sony is their provider for most sensors. With a mirrorless you’ll be able to see changes in the viewfinder as you change them (electronic viewfinder), and the focus points are vastly higher than the Nikon DSLR’s.
I don’t know much about the Olympus or Fuji (certain models), but I think the Olympia II is in a way higher price range than the a6000, so it may be more feature rich.
Great video I didn’t know that about memory recall so thanks for that. One thing, so if you can record video by clicking the record button, what is the point in the video on the dial? So if I’m in manual mode, I set all my settings and click record button it’ll stRt recording with those settings right? What’s the difference if I turn the dial to movie mode?
Thanks! Record button just gives more flexibility, and as you’re in manual mode when you hit record, you’re in charge of all the settings. It’s not on auto anything unless you tell it to be.
Nice video. I currently have been shooting with the lens kit for almost a year now. I do portraits and I take it with me when I hike and travel. Any recommendations for a new lens? There's so many options out there!! Thanks

Another awesome video. I know a lot of pros that use aperture priority mode 90% of the time. I guess different strokes for different folks. Keep’em coming.
Thanks Derek! And yep, much more planned!
Amazing video brother, clean and simple! 👍
Thank u
Thanks bro!
Good stuff, well explained. Kudos
Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks, Bro! That was extremely informative and helpful, too!
anytime! thanks for watching
Hi! Great video! Question- Once I select a scene, how do i change to a different scene selection? 🤷♀️Thanks!
@@kyletaggart Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question! It's greatly appreciated!!
Learned SO much from this vid. Any chance you could release a vid about using additional attachable lenses to the Sony Omega?
Sony omega? You mean the a6000?
hikyletaggart *derp* I just realized what I typed.
Always awesome to see these videos, keep it up!
🙌🏻😊🎬
Sorry for my lame english
Thank you!
@@kyletaggart Thanks mate. I will test that.
Please do recommend a good compatible external microphone for a6000. Thanks.
This is what I do: ruclips.net/video/M4Y5PlRpvD8/видео.html
Or look at Sony’s microphones. They do have some hot shoe microphones.
Yes, Very helpful and clear. Thanks!
Do you have a video about how to connect the camera to a desktop computer?
I do not. But should be micro usb cable to computer and then you can access it just like you would if you plugged in an SD card or external hard drive. I’d suggest getting a usb SD card reader.
Hey man, your videos are awesome..., what lense i should buy for street photography??
Tiyas Sarkar Try 50mm 1.8 or if your budget is more then you can invest in 16mm or 35mm 1.4
A good first lens is the Sony 50mm f1.8, a great street photography lens is the Sony 35mm f1.8, but it’s more expensive. The Sigma 30mm f1.4 is also an excellent choice for street photography.
Thanks for your feedback 😊👌
What setting should I use for car roller shots?
Shutter priority. Look up “panning”. I should do a video on that.
Hello Kyle, Thank you so much! Is there a MACRO ability in the camera ?
It can try its best for macro, you can also use “clear image zoom” which is a feature - to zoom in more. I have videos in macro lenses for the a6000 and a video on cheap macro tube extensions. 👍🏻
@@kyletaggart Thank you!
Hi Kyle,
I am making a trip to the west coast of the usa this summer.
Thank you man , you always have good tips.
Anytime! I sincerely appreciate you checking this out!
Hi, thanks for sharing. Sony A6000 doesn't allow you to flip the screen right? When you're shooting a video, what do you usually use to see yourself while shooting? thanks!
and also, i am thorn between A6000 and A6300 - they say A6300 is better in low light? Your thoughts and recommendation please. Thanks!
I use an external monitor, you can checkout my setup here : ruclips.net/video/Ml3QpivGmZ8/видео.html
If it is better it won’t be by much. Same sensor on both cameras. 6300 has 120fps and 4k, it is better for video than the 6000.
Which mode is best for low light photography
hi probably gonna get an a6000 soon ive heard sony cameras overheat and shut off have you had this problem? my other options are fujifilm x20 or olympus md mark ll
atm i have a nikon d5200 dslr it has 24.1 megapixels i know the sensor matters more than the mp but i dont know of ill see a big difference in loss of quality the only thing id like on this camera is a touchscreen and a flip screen instead of just a tilt screen im planing on using it for pics more than vids
I don’t know much about the Olympus or Fuji (certain models), but I think the Olympia II is in a way higher price range than the a6000, so it may be more feature rich.
hikyletaggart thanxs allot for responding ill take a look at the a6000 soon pretty sure ill get it
Great video I didn’t know that about memory recall so thanks for that.
Million thanks for this video.. When using automatically should I choose intelligent or superior Mode for the best result?
Nice video. I currently have been shooting with the lens kit for almost a year now. I do portraits and I take it with me when I hike and travel. Any recommendations for a new lens? There's so many options out there!! Thanks
1. Sony 50mm f1.8
2. Sony 35mm f1.8
3. Checkout the Sigma lenses as well.
I also have some recommendations here: kit.com/hikyletaggart/sony-a6000-lens-recommendations
I just picked it up yesterday. Time to create!
Yes!!!! Video or photo?
hikyletaggart video for the most part.
Nice! Enjoy it!
