If you have to tell an employee to not drive on the grass when delivering mail, your employee has more serious issues than that. His decision making skills should be looked at and I think he needs more visual watching to see what else he has been doing.

Years back when I owned a yard maintenance/landscaping company, one of the best money makers was going to homes that just got new driveways. Most concrete companies don’t repair the area beside the new drive.
Eventually it led me to sell off the landscaping and take a job working for a concrete crew. 5 years later I opened my own concrete construction company. 20 yrs later I retired at 50 (after selling off the concrete company).

@@latoyahodges4962 - it would depend how it was done. For a company to send a crew, a truck, and material, it’s not worthwhile to the company unless the charge a minimum fee.
Use concrete as an Ex: a driveway 1200sq ft is around $10,000. A shed pad 8’X8’ = 64 sq ft is between $1500-$2000. But the small slab around a clothesline 6’X4’ =24 sq ft isn’t worth a company looking at for less than $1000.
(That’s all labor and materials include in each.)
But as a ‘side job’, I could give those small jobs to one of my guys. Then they could do the job for far less, not having the same expenses or overhead that a company has.

The city has a right away along the edge of the street, but it is the person's responsibility to maintain the grass. So those saying it isn't is property are wrong, it is and has to be maintained by the property owner, the city only has the right away to do work or have access. If there was a sidewalk, same thing the grass between the sidewalk and street is still the owner's property and has to be maintained by the property owner.

    • @dericksmith2137
      @dericksmith2137 3 года назад

But with DAMAGE it isn’t the homeowners responsibility. Think of when a tree on the blvd blows down after a storm, the city crews do the cleanup.
You are correct that the homeowner is expected to MAINTAIN but that’s all.
If the homeowner was smart he’d have complained to the city, each time! Then offering up the video as evidence the city would do the repairs and seek reimbursement from the post office (at a lot more than $100).

I had this problem in Tampa area...They kept running onto my grass and OVER my irrigation heads!! They aren't cheap to replace! So I installed PVC pipe around the heads as well as added a rebar spike inside the area between the sprinkler head and the protective surround..I waited..about a week later I did notice a few houses down the mail lady had a flat and was out of her mail truck looking at her tire! She had no way of knowing which home caused it or if it was even from a home..I imagine her had to hear the rapid release of air when she ran over the large diameter spike!!! This man needs to bury spikes in his grass..it is legally his yard! Or bury something that would cause the mail truck to be disabled..if questioned he can say well why would a mail truck be in my yard????

Install a concrete barrier with just a bit of height then the grass that separates the pavement and the grass. I see it all the time. He should do this. It would blow the mail trucks tires and or damage them.
I’ll be damn if I would keep buying pallets of sod. Mail carriers driving mail trucks need to have respect period I see them turn on my street and literally drive in peoples yards shameful!!!!

That is not his yard that is the right-of-way in front of his property.
His property line likely starts on the other side of the sidewalk.
I noticed many residents in Jacksonville get territorial about what happens in front of their house all the way up to and including the street parking in front of their house.

I had to replace my mailbox because the carrier kept knocking the *metal* door off, for one. If it weren’t for a neighbor, who watched the carrier do what he did the final time it happened, I wouldn’t have known it was him. My neighborhood had has problem carriers for years to no avail.

That part of the grass doesn’t belong to people. The sidewalk to the road is owned by the city or county. Look at the telephone poles. They put the poles on the property line. 22 feet from center of the road usually on each side.

That dude doesn't own that part of his yard. It's an easement. We don't own the sidewalk either. Our property stops on the house side of the sidewalk. You're required to maintain it, and the city will sue you for not maintaining it, but you don't own it. Crazy as it seems
