I drove a '63 galaxie 500 xl for several months w/o reverse, in 1970 when I was 18. Stuck my foot out and pushed, but must be very level. Lived in the city, parked near no parking signs so no one would park in front of me. Also parked just a few weeks from corners for same reason. Helped build character 😂
I bought a car with no reverse that was very nice in all other ways. Only $500 because nobody else wanted it. It was easy to park facing uphill so I could roll back.

im not surprised, no car maker nowaday treats there mechanics with respect or lets them develop their own personal skills. back in the day an oldeboy mech would run anything up a ramp or know what's wrong as u drive in. now they must plug it in n go by the diagnostic list spat out n follow along like kiddies music time. im here to tell you at best those things are a suggestion, regularly wrong, n always expensive to overcome.

Unless you love editing and being behind a camera a lot. Then it can be for you. Only problem is starting as a car channel will dig into your wallet unless you go hoovie style and hope one day you’ll be there. You never know but it isn’t for all of us. Yeah that's the only other car I can think of that he has. That would be valuable enough to pull that off. I'm well aware the Countach has (had) a loan against it for the home remodel. However, that Veyron is worth way more than the Countach. So I don't think it would be too hard for him to convince the lender to swap the Veyron in its place as the loan collateral.
@ the countach is already listed on their website for sale along with the Z8. I agree it was a heavy hitter financially minus the loan. Just such a cool car though.

I really like when you teach about the financials of owning these cars. I hope to be able to put some of it into practice one day. Used collectible musical instuments are kind of like these collectible cars where you can own them for basically free for a few years and get to enjoy them if you play the cards correctly.

I find it astonishing that a tech misdiagnosed the transmission as bad for having no reverse, when all along, it was a problem in the shifter. That just blows my mind because the shifter isn’t mechanically connected to the transmission in the Veyron. It’s like having a faulty power window switch. You test the wires in the circuit that powers the window motor to see if it works, just like you would expect to test the wires that plug into the shifter to see if the transmission engages in reverse in the Veyron. I mean wow.

This is one of those cars engineered using a (Parts Bind). The majority of the parts come from VW and Nissan. The replacement parts are cheap to buy if you can cross-reference the part number with VW and Nissan, but if you go with the "official" Bugatti parts, it will cost thousands per part.

I love the fact that they key is basically identical to a vw key of the era. A lot of the modules are probably pretty similar too underneath all the trim and bodywork. Im also sure it shares at least a few engine parts with the vw vr6 and w8. Also that red Lamborghini LM002 behind the Bugatti is honestly a lot more interesting to me than the Bugatti.

Had a similar issue on a dodge magnum, but shifter wouldn’t move at all, stealership wanted 800 to fix, turns out it was a plastic hook in the shifter box with a spring that broke, 10 dollar piece, zip tied it and never issues again 😂. I couldn’t imagine the faces when the trans was replaced and still wasn’t fixed

I'm well aware the Countach has (had) a loan against it for the home remodel. However, that Veyron is worth way more than the Countach. So I don't think it would be too hard for him to convince the lender to swap the Veyron in its place as the loan collateral.

@ the countach is already listed on their website for sale along with the Z8. I agree it was a heavy hitter financially minus the loan. Just such a cool car though.

The owners of these cars have the budget to be able to suck it up when it comes to 100k repair bill as they do for 30k service each year. It’s cheap compared to their private jets and super yachts!

I really like when you teach about the financials of owning these cars. I hope to be able to put some of it into practice one day. Used collectible musical instuments are kind of like these collectible cars where you can own them for basically free for a few years and get to enjoy them if you play the cards correctly.

1 thing is buying that, the next one is service. Its INSANE expensive. Insane price to change oil on them its like $20.000 because:
Remove the rear clam shell
Remove the wing
Remove lots of other stuff under it
Drain 9 or so oil pans, might be as high as 15+
add lots and lots and lots of oil
Reassemble everything

I find it astonishing that a tech misdiagnosed the transmission as bad for having no reverse, when all along, it was a problem in the shifter. That just blows my mind because the shifter isn’t mechanically connected to the transmission in the Veyron. It’s like having a faulty power window switch. You test the wires in the circuit that powers the window motor to see if it works, just like you would expect to test the wires that plug into the shifter to see if the transmission engages in reverse in the Veyron. I mean wow.

This is one of those cars engineered using a (Parts Bind). The majority of the parts come from VW and Nissan. The replacement parts are cheap to buy if you can cross-reference the part number with VW and Nissan, but if you go with the "official" Bugatti parts, it will cost thousands per part.

I love the fact that they key is basically identical to a vw key of the era. A lot of the modules are probably pretty similar too underneath all the trim and bodywork. Im also sure it shares at least a few engine parts with the vw vr6 and w8. Also that red Lamborghini LM002 behind the Bugatti is honestly a lot more interesting to me than the Bugatti.
Passat VR6 is awesome if you can't afford a Bugatti.
@ralphinator2 yeah I briefly had one that i bought as a awd drivetrain donor for my 1981 mk1 rabbit project. In the test drive after getting it home from the salvage auction it pulled almost as hard as my modified mk6 gti
One good thing about Bugattis is that as long as they have gas and battery, they almost always start (maybe with a check engine light, but they start)

Had a similar issue on a dodge magnum, but shifter wouldn’t move at all, stealership wanted 800 to fix, turns out it was a plastic hook in the shifter box with a spring that broke, 10 dollar piece, zip tied it and never issues again 😂. I couldn’t imagine the faces when the trans was replaced and still wasn’t fixed
Was shocked to see a Z8 here in downtown Cincinnati recently. One of the best looking cars for the 2000s for sure.
