Those folks are treated liked garbage by USPS management. Often having to work 10-12 hour days, 6 days a week, often not knowing when their next day off is going to be. There needs to be an investigation of the USPS. The employees are also having to carry increasingly heavy parcels and deliver for Amazon.
Just another example of the federal government subsidizing billion dollar corporations. Make Amazon bring their own packages and make the USPS a good job again.
@@TweakzouT I hope you folks get a much more favorable contract. The two tier wage thing plus all the parcels just seems like a disaster. USPS employees deserve better. Plus they're not going to be able to retain people. I was considering applying but not until the new contract comes out.
@@andrewd.conard5088 they implemented a new way of retaining CCAs in my area. Only working them 8hrs a day for the first 120 days and having at least one day off during a week. People that have never had a job working hard definitely aren't cut out for it
Mad Props to all of the Mail Carriers out there! I believe it takes a special breed of folks to work for the USPS. I give my Mail Carrier Lady a bottle of water every time I see her. I never realized why she was so appreciative of such a simple gesture until I started learning about how much they put up with physically and mentally on a daily basis. 👍🏾👍🏾
I’ve been hearing that the post office makes their mail carriers work long hours with hardly any days off. So an example is you will work for eight days straight for 12 hours a day and only get one day off and you repeat the cycle. That would burn out anybody after a while. The old mail carriers started from day one as a career position mail carrier and got there two days off a week but now you start off as a temporary mail carrier until you reach career status and you will not have two days off a week which will burn a lot of people out.
So unless things have radically changed, no they can't work you more than 6 in a row for 12 hours, honestly I don't think they could even afford you. But if it is happening, go to the Union or get a lawyer, and that will be rectified really fast. A bad apple actually tried to work me 7 days when I worked for them once, but she got stopped so I couldn't take action against her. As far as long hours, it depends. At least when I worked for them they couldn't go over what ever the state allows regularly, an exception would be made during peak season and I believe during voting time but that would be a decision that comes from up top, not local postmaster, I hated it but other carriers would try to squeeze as many hours as they could. I think after 60 hours we went into double pay, didn't see the point since you loose so much in taxes. Realized that during the pandemic they might have been allowed to do things that were not legally allowed before, if that is the case, there is a good chance it will revert.
Now multiply the speed by 10,000, add carrying at least 8 trays of mail and packages, AFTER you sort, note, and lift all the packages…out of the office and into the truck. Now open 600+ mailboxes, and get in and out of your truck 150+ times, and you’d just about have it. Plus really strong legs and arms!
I’m a letter carrier at the post office. The truth is, I love it. Straight up. And to be clear, I joined at almost 40 years old (I’m 45). I went to college and had a corporate career before this (laid off). Is there BS? Yep Can mgmt be BS? Yep Can your fellow coworkers and carriers be BS? Yep Guess what? What job DOESNT have that BS? However, it is manageable. 2 words: low profile. All you have to do is make it 6 months and if you haven’t figured out how to carry the mail, you ain’t gonna’. It’s tricky but until you get the hang of it, you’ll be in for aches, pains, and more. And afterwards, still aches, pains and more, but not nearly as bad as in the beginning. And then you’ll be like me: silently laughing about all the IDIOTIC things some of these brat carriers say and think they know about the workforce outside. We got it good. And like I said, in 6 months or less, you’ll be like many of us: Casing, loading and delivering a full route, on foot (park and loop), standing on one hand, with 3 hours of OT afterward. Perfect day. You roll in every day with a solid job well done, and you’ll just laugh all the way to the bank. I know I do. 😊 Many comments are about “It suck’s. Don’t work there. Garbage mgmt.” Well, I work there. I was there today, and will be there again tomorrow. And I dig it: the uniforms, the benefits, the overtime. I dig it. And that’s what it takes. You want a career with USPS? You’ll only make it, if you want it. 👍

🤔..The Government doesnt pay our wages. Mail does. As for not a living wage... AVERAGE CARRIERS make around 65k a year within the first 2 years. (Im not a carrier). But theres more to it than just a base salary.. Multiple wage increases.. per year.. multiple colas. Govt employee perks.. including free college.. govt loans ,, etc.. .Top carriers make over 100k a year.. govt medical benefits. And too many more perks that cant be explained to a non postal worker. DONT BELIEVE ME?? Ask your local regular carrier about the wages, And top earnings. Everyone feels underpaid at any job.. but remember No no college is needed for these workers to reach middle working class status.

Love my job and it pays fairly well, but with the mail plus packages and parcels and the walking and being exposed in all elements plus inflation. Former mail carrier here. I quit and I’m so glad I did. You have no life if you take this job and there are other downsides. I can tell you this, if you’re expecting mail and you don’t get it, the mail carrier is not coming back that same day, the mail gets postponed to the next day or the next….
We've had so many people quit at our office. Some new and some who've been there a few years. Sometimes it's just not worth it. There's a reason they've had to relax some of their hiring policies.
We now get $73,802/Yr ( $35.48/hr) without any OT. 5 weeks and a day vacation plus you can carry it over. Health and life insurance with matching 401k and pension. That being said, the job sucks. Working only 8-9 hours per day 5 days a week sucks enough. Don’t ever become a carrier. It is a terrible job that kills your mind and soul.
So I'm assuming you are currently a carrier? City Carrier? Can I assume you are full time and not CCA? Are you saying it 8-9 hours 5 days sucks because you want more or less? I was a CCA on two different states a while ago so Im a bit out of the loop.
@@Moneyball01 Fake news? You’re right. We just got a step Increase with a base salary of $75,091. That’s $36.10 per hour. This is full time city letter carrier. Would you like to see the form 50 that I just got? Brainless.
Just saying, you are not going to be moving that slow. Also, technically correct that you wear the satchel over one shoulder (safety reasons), yeah lets see how long that lasts when you are carrying heavy loads, it tends to end up going across.
Been there, done that. Loved the job and pay, but too many managers ruined it for me. And yes, 6+ days straight and lots of hours is s great paycheck but I'm not selling my soul and life.
Method and technique, like working off the clock. I don't see the postal system surviving the next 10 year, unless they do something about the work load and pay
@Patrick Allen I agree, they need a pay schedule that's generous after a couple years . Then new recruits will make a career at usps instead of quitting. In return usps will have an adequate work force to handle the load with minimal forced overtime.

I've been a Rural Carrier Asociate (part time) just shy of 3 years and I love it. Each, route, Office, and Region are different along with slight City and Rural Carrier differences. So every one will have different experiences some will be much busier then others have better management, better routes etc..etc.. But we'll worth it, now everyone starts out part time and you move up as the old timers move out and new routes open up. And as a part timer most if the time you will work a lot more hours, weekends and minor holidays delivering packages. But once you get full time it's all worth it.
No, it’s far from the worst job. What makes it terrible is toxic, entitled employees, usually the ones who’ve been there for 15+ years. Also incompetent management who is soooo out of touch. Delivering mail and parcels isn’t bad, it’s being short staffed that does so, hence too much work on the daily.

I used to work for Home Depot as part time but they were giving me like 40 hours every week, and so it wasn’t working for me
A lot has changed in 20 years. Mismanagement and entitled sloths of senior carriers and other USPS employees have ruined it, turned it into a toxic/ hostile work environment.
They killed the pay. In 2013 you'd be starting out making 62k a year. Anyone after 2013? You start out at 42k a year. But you'll make 90k or so because you'll be working 80-90 hours a week with 1 day off a month lmao. Not to mention in 2013 they didn't have 100-200 packages a day. You're getting paid way less to do way more work.

It can, if you let it. It's not for everybody, but it's the best feeling once you turn Regular and get your own route. I've been with the Post Office for 7 years and I love my route. For those just starting, keep your head up and one foot in front of the other.

It is a right hand drive. She is looking forward to retiring soon. It a career not just a job. The pay is great, benefits are great, and retirement is great.
Only if you're career for awhile. There's no benefits for rca (sub). No holiday pay, low pay, minimal leave you can earn. Most carriers that have been there a long time say they wouldn't do this job now if they were just starting. Also, a lot of carriers' pay went down and lost their day off. Could take 10 years to go career. It's crazy.

I'm currently in the hiring process to become a carrier. I have a mail man that I see often in the afternoon delivering our mail. Recently I decided to finally come up to him and ask him about how the job and see how he likes it because he's been working with USPS for a while now. He just kept disregarding me and kept telling me to call the post office, so I just said okay and let him be. I thought it was rude but I also had to think about if he was on some kind of time crunch and maybe he was having a bad day dealing with management? Either way I'm gonna do my best to stay positive when hired.
the job itself is pretty simple. you're just putting letters and packages in a mailbox. being a CCA is pretty rough tho depending on what office you end up in. bad abusive management is often what leads a carrier to quit
I mean if the first time you bothered to have a conversation with me was because you wanted something, I would be rude to you to. Maybe learn to build relationships before you need a favor
stop making excuses half of the people now days don’t want to work anyway they want to beg and steal and want something for nothing start working for yourself that probably work out for you I hope
Worst part is pay is the same regardless of where you live. Live in California and you’re on the poverty line. If you live in let’s say Ohio, you’re living good. Any union negotiations usually stop between regions because those in low cost of living areas want to push for better benefits, where those is high cost of living areas want higher pay. The national system is a huge issue.
I live in a suburb between Dayton and Cincinnati Ohio. I been looking at usps jobs due to being burnt out on 3rds, been at FedEx freight over 9 years. The starting pay for a CCA in my city is 19.33 per hour. The town next to me has a RCA rural at 19.94. Man I want that day shift but FedEx pays 28.96 an hour to drive a forklift around lol and almost all these comments seem negative about usps.
This job all depends on what type of management you have. There were a couple of nights that corporate was on management's asses and they were making me, a CCA, do rural stuff. But most days at my station, things are pretty tolerable. Our union branch president works at my station, which makes it really easy to ask questions about stupid things management does sometimes. But mostly this job depends on your management and staffing levels. Last year my station's CCAs were working 14 hour days every day. This year we are generally doing 8s on average, maybe 9 or 10 hour Mondays. Some days in the middle of the week can be 7 or even 6 hours sometimes. We have double the CCAs this year compared to last year. Stations with bad management are just asking for trouble, since that leads to low staffing levels, and more work for people who get there, and higher turnover rate when they are actually able to hire someone.
Not at all what it’s like. Our trucks are FULL of packages along with the mail. The supervisors come around every morning and tell you down to the minute when you should be leaving and returning to the office.
The lies lol in my area the drivers start at $22 last time I checked that was in 2021. I actually declined that position and went with USPS because I could get a/c in summer lol
Some of the postal carriers do an awesome job while others are lazy and all they do is bitch and moan about everything. Then of course there are ones that get to know their customers a little too well.
It ends at $35 or so, but along with COLA extras it can certainly become more. It however takes 10 years to hit max. Also prior to Covid it was a decent wage to earn, ever since then it has become extremely uncompetitive.
If USPS is anything like the Canadian Postal service, the job itself is great. You can meet many cool people on your route and end up making some good friends. The downside is the management that plays games with you to make your life miserable, and a union that takes your money and only backs you if it benefits them to do so. Management is absolutely attrocious. The supervisors have never delivered a letter in their life yet always act like they know the job better.
I've heard stories about the past, finishing your route early and going to the local food place with other carriers and heading back in your 8 hours. The postal office isn't anything like it used to be, as a non-career employee I can go get a job at a factory or even as a janitor making what I make now plus I would have good insurance. Within just a little under a year of working there already have to have steroid injections in my elbows and I am only 35. They work you to death and you receive nothing, there's no room for advancement unless you're part of the buddy system.

This is true except for the day off - gotta deliver Amazon Sunday. They “own” you 12+ hours a day. Their words.
Did it for 3 years til I finally got a career status. Hard work indeed
@@bevrolee8887 Are you a carrier? if you are, what kind?
1000% true
I was a carrier for 33years. Retired in 2019 and never looked back. Retirement is great!!
Now multiply the speed by 10,000, add carrying at least 8 trays of mail and packages, AFTER you sort, note, and lift all the packages…out of the office and into the truck. Now open 600+ mailboxes, and get in and out of your truck 150+ times, and you’d just about have it. Plus really strong legs and arms!
so funny and true
I’m a letter carrier at the post office. The truth is, I love it. Straight up. And to be clear, I joined at almost 40 years old (I’m 45). I went to college and had a corporate career before this (laid off).
Is there BS? Yep
Can mgmt be BS? Yep
Can your fellow coworkers and carriers be BS? Yep
Guess what? What job DOESNT have that BS?
However, it is manageable. 2 words: low profile.
All you have to do is make it 6 months and if you haven’t figured out how to carry the mail, you ain’t gonna’. It’s tricky but until you get the hang of it, you’ll be in for aches, pains, and more. And afterwards, still aches, pains and more, but not nearly as bad as in the beginning.
And then you’ll be like me: silently laughing about all the IDIOTIC things some of these brat carriers say and think they know about the workforce outside. We got it good. And like I said, in 6 months or less, you’ll be like many of us:
Casing, loading and delivering a full route, on foot (park and loop), standing on one hand, with 3 hours of OT afterward. Perfect day.
You roll in every day with a solid job well done, and you’ll just laugh all the way to the bank. I know I do. 😊
Many comments are about “It suck’s. Don’t work there. Garbage mgmt.”
Well, I work there. I was there today, and will be there again tomorrow. And I dig it: the uniforms, the benefits, the overtime. I dig it.

It would be nice if they would show their actual reality of what it is to be a mail carrier not this political bs.
US PS can’t deliver a package to the right address. I experience this weekly
You might have a new carrier. Chill out and call the shipper
Not at all what it’s like. Our trucks are FULL of packages along with the mail. The supervisors come around every morning and tell you down to the minute when you should be leaving and returning to the office.
Mean while ups starts their drivers off at 35 an hour and sometimes give them a helper during the holidays. Usps will run u into the ground.
UPS doesn't start its drivers at $35 an hour. The big brown panel truck drivers and the semi drivers top out at $42 an hour
The lies lol in my area the drivers start at $22 last time I checked that was in 2021. I actually declined that position and went with USPS because I could get a/c in summer lol
Wrong. UPS does not start you at $35 per hour! Good grief
@@DangiloHankerson90that’s more like it
I’m glad I found these comments. I was considering working for usps.
Some of the postal carriers do an awesome job while others are lazy and all they do is bitch and moan about everything. Then of course there are ones that get to know their customers a little too well.
If you want to go career asap go city. Don't do rural. Much longer to career unless you get ptf position.
Yea don’t unless you want little to no free time
Don't trust these people. You only need to do it yourself to understand. Maybe you're a good fit
I’ve started having a feeling that my mail carrier is watching me so I started watching him and following him I don’t trust him.
Starting at $19! In CA that is min wage. What does it lead to!? $20, 25...!?
It ends at $35 or so, but along with COLA extras it can certainly become more. It however takes 10 years to hit max.
Also prior to Covid it was a decent wage to earn, ever since then it has become extremely uncompetitive.
In California, the minimum wage varies but it’s usually about $15
@@xzaviuraurai it takes just under 12 1/2 years to hit max pay.
Now we're gps tracked and asked when we sit still for more than 4 mins. Pay has increasingly gone down, this job is on par with fast food wages for 4x the work and risk to life, health, mental etc. That's why no one is working here, add that to the management demand of your entire life and the disrespect and you get a terrible fed up workforce.
No longer have to take a test. Its a union job. Health insurance, overtime after 10 hours. Quit complaining and get out there
I’m going to be starting as a PTF and I heard that they are turning mail carriers into regulars after 3 mths probation at the station that I’ll be working at, I’m going for it.
we had such a good mail carrier ,friendly no matter what we (neighborhood in a culdesac) got our mail , then this happened - he retired . there were different once for a while ,few off them were good but they were just temps, then we had one guy that only delivered if he never had to leave the truck , in our culdesac which is tight and driveways are small, home owners cars were (not blocking the mailbox ) just standing in the court ,shake my head he drove away , couldn't make 1 step out . I explained to the post master of that office that is not possible to have the whole court empty for the mail truck . then we got another mail person needless to say first day in our area ,talking on the phone ,not friendly ,it seemed she really doesn't like her job, no heart in it , why does the post office hire such people .
I worked the post office for 8months ... they worked me to the bone, you work 6, 10-12 hour days they call you in all the time on your day off. Most days i did in a row was 13days without a day off. My honeat opinion... Never work at the Pist Office... they treat you like straight garbage
Totally agree 👍🙄 hope a lot of people are reading this before they apply I would really think before applying for the post office 🤔 and say nope not for me or anyone else

18 to 19 an hr to be a slave. Ride in a truck with no heat or air, take nonsense from most mgmt(1 hr to complete this route), and begin the day by sorting mail in a small cage box. No TY

This postal behavior has been going on for generations what people don’t understand is that this is the kinder gentle version compared to what it was like in the past. Nowadays people don’t have the same desperation to get a postal job therefore there is a lot of turnover just like every other job today. People are not willing to put up with bs nor deal with the physical aspects of the job. Working as a carrier is not an easy job yet people walk in thinking it is.
I know for a fact I thought it was easy when I first started. Less than a year later I ended up Quitting because it was too stressful and I barely got enough sleep.
12 miles of walking up and stairs in all kinds of weather. And micromanaged to the second.

The past was a cake walk compared to today, stop lying table 1 boomer 🤣😅
Not desperate to get a postal job when the pay is dogshit now compared to what it used to be. Why sell your life for 19 an hour?
The video icon photo was the most serious face of a mail carrier. The job is very difficult. It just teaches you so much about yourself. And it takes a toll on the mind and body
If Newman can do it, how hard can it be?
It was the worst job ive ever had.
the worst part about the post office are the people working there. too many bad attitudes. i got into a couple of fights. always defend yourself and resign if necessary. you can always apply to another station in the future
Management gave her a black eye. Back in 8 👊
No time for family and friends with this job. Hella underpaid . That pension is now 30 years , lawd have mercy!
Oh no way I wouldn’t even the about working for the post office
You can't even construct a proper sentence Barbara. Don't even think about delivering the mail. Remedial English
18 to 19 an hour
I wish someone would take accountability about throwing my mail on the ground, I made a complaint and they stopped my mail. I even had it on camera. I guess I’m going to have to post these videos now since my claim is being taken as a joke

Who can I speak to regarding my job application ?? I applied to CITY CARRIER ASSISTANT SAN DIEGO CA. I got my fingerprints done on October 19th, 2022 I even got the job offer and I ACCEPTED but then I got an email that says to call a number or send an email to the email provided HOWEVER NO ONE ANSWERS ITS JUST A RECORDED VOICEMAIL !!!! I need to start working ASAP but at this point I am losing all hope what can I do ??
If you accepted the position, the post master should call you to schedule an onboard meeting. The will leave a voice mail. Happened for me two times already. Both times they called two days after I accepted the position and between 11am and 1pm. After the on board meeting it was about 1 1/2 weeks till human resources called me about orientation and my date that I will be on the payroll. The only email I got that I had to do was the NACI which is a background check and your references. Basically the normal application information.
Omg Nicole, are you brain dead? Go to your local office and ask to speak to a supervisor. Then again, with your beauty, you are better off being a cam girl.
Make sure you're using a PC in the application process, cell phone is hit or miss ...
Just go digital problem solved 🤔
The worst post service in the world.
😂 False. First you have to sort through/case every single mail piece you intend to deliver that day! This story skips one of the most crucial and cognitively challenging hours of the day.
They wanna make it look like "oh this job is easy." When we know it ain't
thats what I though too lol until I had a shadow day haha, 5 hours of standing sorting mail into cubbies ,then the reg. carrier loaded it all in order of the route into those totes and into the truck , then the real fun began I mean it, it was fun meeting the people and seeing the area , but man was I beat , its not for people with foot problems ,I realized it fast and decided it wasn't for me . but I loved the interaction with the customers. they would have loved me . hats off to all the good ,caring carriers.

Route inspection: I timed you used the bathroom twice and it took more than 30 seconds each, that was unacceptable.
Aye no cap Amazon gotta give us dog spray 💀
Uh that lady wasnt actually allowed to touch the mail
Lol they desperate....
Dont be a mail carrier they tell u that you are the help when you first get there then after three dayz they don't help you and they make you do multiple routes in one day then when you cant make it back on time because they hold you back at the station by making you do other things like throwing packages clerk work case other people routes that called out now they wanna fire you
Horrible place to work, 😞 long hours, only one day off and retaliation for calling sick. I can't wait for my partner to find another job.
Why cant you transfer to a less busy area?
@@meghanmisaliar it's one of the less busy areas around. But I decided once I get some things paid off I'm leaving, due to I have had to work during two different funerals, and I've had vacation days in for the doctor for over a month and the day before I have to go to the doctor they say I can't have off they've done that many of time's. I've actually never take a vacation since of been there. Just an overall bad place.
@stevo6891 wish I had something like that, most the post office here don't have janitor positions we had to take turns cleaning. But I left the post office at the end of August, blew out two more hernias, and now getting elbow injections. Can't lift anything, so been job searching for something light on the body. Not having much luck.
@stevo6891 same here I'm 36 as well, and already about broke down. You're in a good spot where your at, you won't make much more than what your making now at the p.o office. I may see what the schools offer around here or the hospitals.
@stevo6891 i knew some folks that worked in the mines here in Kentucky, good money but now their in rough shape. Thanks man, wish ya the best too.
I just want to know what her waist belt holder thing is called! I want one!
Unfortunately because if govt regulations with hiring, most if the qualified candidates were screened out
Lol 35 lbs is a joke, easily 60
Just put the package where its addressed to.
Look the right thing to do. Is issue temporary pay and anything that these workers owe as delinquent payments what ever it is you be paid by the post office like only what they charge for not getting payments at a timely manner should be considered happy employees are needed to do a good job .unless there's more to this then meets the eye...then do the right thing 🤔
No , I cannot be a mail carrier. I'm considered a liabilty.
