      No, the difference is neither the Mail Carrier nor Postmaster notified the Homeowners of withholding their mail. Thats a Federal crime. Both could very easily lose their jobs and the Federal Postal Service could be subject to a Lawsuit for illegally holding their mail. The Carrier could've just told them to call the Postmaster and officially request they don't knock or ring the bell. That's a very simple thing for them to do, and they'd be required to figure something out or risk discrimination against a Disabled Person. The Postmaster should've investigated and then notified, at the very least, the Homeowners. Not notifying them on purpose and withholding their mail is a crime. The Mail Carrier could've also changed routes (though they shouldnt need to of course since they were doing their job and were yelled at, but they're not 100% off the hook for not at least providing any information and purposefully ignoring a request that deals with special circumstances of a Disabled Person)

    • @EvilLoynis
      @EvilLoynis 4 года назад +1

      @@Servingourstories the only thing I disagree with is the discrimination suggestion. It's the homeowners responsibility to get their dog trained in that situation. After all they have the disability and chose the dog.

      Plus, he could've easily just told them to call into his branch and officially request that to the Postmaster. Then there's documentation of that. He took no effort, and in a lawsuit a judge could possibly see his actions as antagonistic. The man had no right to yell at the mailman of course but then if the mailman felt unsafe the Postmaster shouldve reached out to investigate and/or notify the homeowners. The Postal employees purposely withholding mail is a Federal Crime, akin to somebody not authorized to open another person or entities mail. (Which if you didn't know is also a federal crime. I certainly made sure my dad knew that when I was 19 when he kept opening all of my mail, including bank letters and Hospital letters. Never did that again)

      Ok, so you guys on this thread were not paying attention or don't know what you are talking about or both, and some of you sound like carriers the way you responded here so should know better. The carrier had been asked repeatedly not to knock or use the bell, so after the first time he should have complied and started leaving notices for the packages. The dog was not an issue for the mail carrier at all, so all these comments about carrier safety from dogs is irrelevant to this. No you shouldn't treat others poorly including the mail carrier but the disabled person can't help being disabled and he would not have been an issue if the carrier had done as asked multiple times to begin with. There are also procedures to deal with issues on the route and they were not fallowed.

    • @JLG35X
      @JLG35X 4 года назад +4

      I agree with safety, but safety would have never been an issue if the mail carrier would have worked with the family. I don't condone rude behavior but if there was a risk of physical harm then the post office would not have started delivering again. Leaving a notice in their mail slot to let them know the circumstances doesnt require the mail carrier to deal with them. Leaving notices for the packages would have solved the problem before it became a problem, and as a mail carrier you are aware thats not the only solution available. Its also unacceptable that no one told the lady how to recover her mail, she was literally at the post office. You ask her for her ID go get the tub with the mail, and let her know why the mail is not being delivered. I haven't worked on one post office where they wouldn't have known how to handle this. What would you do if one of your customer's asked you knot to knock or ring the doorbell? I know I've dealt with similar circumstances more than once.

    This person got angry and said some bad things to the carrier basically because the carrier was doing his job. We can stop your service if we feel there is an unsafe situation going on at your address. If you really want to know how crazy the world is getting just ask your mail person. This right here was the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my almost 30years of being a letter carrier. Your dog is going off and someone in the house is verbally assaulting and you expect us to keep coming to your house. Your mail will be held for 10 days at the station if you have not spoken with your carrier(in a civil manner) or called your local post office your mail will be returned to sender. Postal Customer education 101.
    I love and appreciate all of my customers and I along with most carriers give a 110% everyday but we do not have to put ourselves in harms way.
    Thank you for allowing us to serve you America😊

      Wayword 1 right? Have none of these people paid any attention to how many postal workers have been shot and killed while delivering mail? My God, people are getting crazy out there. December 24, Christmas Eve, 2019 (2 days ago), a man approached me and started yelling at me very aggressively about how I didn't deliver his package and he's sick of me causing his packages to disappear, etc. He even called my supervisor and was yelling bad names and extremely aggressive with my boss saying I didn't deliver his package. I'm on the phone with my boss when he started his rant. I told my boss I'm literally standing at the mailbox looking at the guy's package in the mailbox and he needs to calm down and LOOK in his mailbox. I also informed the guy he's incorrect about me. I've never been on that route before, so any lost packages were NOT because of me. He held me up at least 20 minutes with his rant and my boss talking to me on the phone. Boss told me to wait by the mailbox until the guy came outside. Even after that, he didn't check his mailbox until I told him to freaking LOOK before you start screaming bad names at me and my boss. And when he did get his package out of the mailbox, do you think he apologized or said thank you? No. Just walked away in a huff. People are getting crazy these days.

There are a number of things they could have done previous to her son going off on the carrier. I wouldn't go back there with a barking dog and screaming mentally handicapped adult son either and I am a parent of a mentally handicapped adult child. They knew the dog would bark, they knew he was upset by it and the carrier was required to notify them by knocking or ringing the bell that he left a package. They could have done a few changes to help. They could have installed a flag that would pop up when the carrier came. The man could have put on earmuffs around the time the mail man comes, or the dog could have been taken out for a walk at that time. This is stupid.

    First of all, if it bothers the disabled son......then why the flipping f@ck does he have this dang dog in the first place?? Smh

    Now The Postman Always Rings Twice

  • @Moonorchidwolf
    @Moonorchidwolf 4 года назад +1

    For those who don't know, certified post must be given to the recipient directly; this is because the sender pays an extra fee for a receipt that includes the recipient's signature. Generally the post carrier must leave a notice if they couldn't deliver it directly so that it may be picked up and signed for at the post office.
    In that sense, both sides are wrong. The post carrier does not need to deliver to houses they don't feel safe at, but the household should have received a notice.
    (arguably, the post office worker may have not felt safe delivering the notice though)

    Postal employees have the right not to deliver if they feel threatened in any way, dog,people, getting stuck cause of bad driveway,road,etc. my wife is a rural postal carrier. you wouldn't believe the crap people complain about to the USPS, with all the online shipping these workers have to deliver very heavy packages!!

    I filed a complaint against my mailman for throwing box with $200 item in it. Next day he yelled at me from his mail van as I sat in my yard, challenged me to fight and said he was going to send gang members to my house and he's suspending my mail service. I filed another complaint, called the postal inspector and called the police. Yet so far he's still allowed to work the route my house is on and they told me I have to go to the post office for my mail.

    When I was a carrier we were told if we ever felt unsafe to report it to our Postmaster and then the Postmaster would contact the residents and tell them we will not be delivering mail, this is why and you will have to get a PO Box until the problem is fixed and then prove that it's been fixed

  • @MacDaddyRico

    I had the exact opposite problem with a certain lazy and apathetic mail carrier...
    She refused to pick up a package because she "didn't see it on the porch"...even though the online request form included At Front Door, with a little box that welcomed extra instructions, where I typed "Please ring bell"...
    The other choices for pick up included On Front Porch, At Garage, At Side Door, At Back Door...
    Her manager lied and said they don't ring doorbells...
    I filed a grievance, and both carrier and manager twisted it all around and said I was a threat...making me go to the post office for my mail because the carrier was scared of me and refused to deliver to my address..!
    I contacted the main office with my grievance, and haven't seen that carrier since...I also heard the manager was no longer at that annex...
