Next time call the cops and report it as a hit and run by USPS, the cops will charge and arrest the postal driver and USPS would solve this issue faster.
A similar thing happened to my friend when a postal delivery vehicle sideswiped his parked car and kept going, everything was caught on dashcam. He reported the hit and run to police then postal. It was very easy for the cops to find out who was driving using the location and postal vehicle number, the postal driver got charged with hit & run and suspended from USPS. He got reimbursed in repairs after a few weeks.

They do, my aunt got into a minor accident with a USPS vehicle like the one in this video. Within 20 minutes they had a representative on site to take pictures along with police to take a report. The USPS driver made a u-turn in the middle of the street without indicating, my aunt was about to go around and hit the side of the USPS vehicle. The police report put my aunt at fault.

That always sounds good but look at how much money he had to spend in the meantime. It showed he lost time from work, he had to spend almost $600 on a rental car, he lost that deductible on his original car. Believe me, in the Bay Area it's going to cost you $2.50 an hour for even the most basically competent attorney. So you have to weigh whether or not you can handle this yourself or whether you are willing to spend another $10,000. And here's the thing, just because you win a case against somebody or in this case an entity, it doesn't mean they have to pay your legal fees. People assume that is always the case but it isn't. I was a legal secretary for a long time, believe me people would be shocked at what lawyers can and cannot do for you.

Well it has already been pointed they aren’t federally funded with tax payer loot since the 1970s, but what you said is still very wise. If you don’t file charges on a federal employee they can keep using their privileges in that position to cover up their crimes rather than showing they do not have the integrity to continue in their position. It is in the best interest of the NATION not just for you, to file charges on them especially when they committed felonies on video at that. To not file on them is to let your country down of which you share as citizen. What hurts one, hurts us all. Federal employees have to be held to a higher standard, you commit crime against the public, not only should they immediately be investigated, but also indicted and handed a federal prison sentence. Don’t get into a government position and think you can commit a single crime and not have to pay dearly for it as that is close to treasonous and traitorous to use OUR power against the people.
The people should demand no tolerance for government employees that commit crimes at any level. Lose your job, disqualify them from ever holding another government position and go to prison.
We are way too lax on letting corruption run rampant in our government. It’s the people’s government, it’s not owned by those who are serving as servants to the people. But we are not tough on government corruption at all and yet the nation is constantly bellyaching about all the political corruption but the people do nothing about it.

But during training, the instructor taught that when you dismount from the vehicle, you first set the parking brake, you turn the front wheels towards the curb, you shut off the engine, then you dismount. This driver did none of this. He left the vehicle running, the parking brake was off. He violated every rule of dismounting from the vehicle. We were taught that it would result in immediate termination if found out by the USPS. That is why the employee quit before he could be fired. He took shortcuts and ended his career as a result. This is why you file the police report and ask to press charges. Then you immediately go to your own insurance company and file a claim with the police report and video evidence, pay your deductible, they send someone out to do the estimate or schedule one for you. They repair the vehicle or determine if it’s a total loss , then they Subro the claim for all the damages + your deductible to the party at fault .. in this case USPS. You let your own insurance company handle all the back end crap and claims process.

@@946towguy2 Wrong. Government employees are protected under qualified immunity for harm caused by official acts done on behalf of the agency employing them. Committing a crime is not covered under qualified immunity as evidenced by the many government employees and officials who have been charged and convicted of crimes committed on duty. USPS workers also DO have to have to have valid state driver's licenses.
The only thing you got right is about the license plates and that's because the vehicles are owned and operated by the federal government, and therefore not subject to state registration requirements. However, all USPS vehicles have registration numbers that are clearly visible on the rear of the vehicle to individually identify them. It is basically the equivalent of a US Government license plate, and they are in fact "registered" and in an automated database maintained by the US government and accessible by state and local law enforcement.

The FBI has jurisdiction over federal crimes and any crimes (state or federal) that are committed on exclusive federal property. Hit and run is a state crime. Only if the (state) crime occurred on federal property would federal law enforcement have any jurisdiction. The Assimilated Crimes Act which allows feds to arrest or issue citations for state code violations on property with exclusive federal jurisdiction like federal buildings, military installations, certain federally managed lands, etc. This is because only the feds have police powers in these areas and there is no federal crime of hit and run or (in the case I mentioned) DUI, so they arrest or cite for violation of the appropriate state law. The feds actually have zero jurisdiction in the case shown in this video because no federal crime was committed, and the crime was not committed on federal property.

USPS has a long history of screwing EVERYBODY out of the money they owe. I worked for a semi-trailer repair company and most of our clients were railroads and trailer leasing companies. USPS damaged a couple of railroad owned trailers to the tune of $7500.00. When USPS picked up the empty trailers they were inspected at the gate for damage and anything found gets written up and put in the manifest box of the trailer. USPS isn't responsible for any of that damage. When the trailers made it back to the railroad, they were again inspected at the gate and the damage found and documented on another J-2 inspection form. Any damage on that one is on USPS to pay for. We repaired the trailers and billed the post office. Exact same thing as this poor guy got, they simply ignore you for months, if you manage to talk to somebody they're always the wrong party and pass you back into never never land. Got our lawyer on it, same nonsense. With all the layers of red tape suing them would take years and it wouldn't be worth it for $7500. The mail your carrier delivers is all presorted and a concrete route. They have to drive past your house regardless if you have mail or not to follow their route.
Now as far as the certified letter, I’m guilty of being annoyed of pulling to a house, knocking and waiting 4-5 mins, no response, and the customer decides to stumble to the door after I already wrote up a notice and as I’m leaving. I’ve done that to a house who often gets letters but is never available to answer the door. I found myself “assuming” they won’t answer after a while.
Lot of scenarios but like I said not defending it. Mail carriers have no AC, typically work 6 days a week, unpredictable work hours and trucks with terrible gas emissions in the cabin of the truck.

None of this surprises me. In cases like this, it doesn't matter if it's local or federal government, they are always a nightmare to deal with, even in open-and-shut cases like this. A friend of mine is a semi-truck driver. He was delivering a load at night in Anaheim, California a few years ago. A police officer was in pursuit of someone, didn't have lights or sirens on, and blew through a red light as my buddy was making a legal left turn with a green light. When the cop car t-boned him, it shoved the entire semi truck cab over an entire lane. My buddy had it on dash cam, they were able to pull up the footage on the traffic cameras and off the officer body and squad car cameras. The cop was 100% at fault AND he was actually cited for causing the accident. It took my friend two years to get the whole matter settled.
