i can definitely relate to that! i actually downloaded the app for the first time a while ago, but the when someone actually tried to talk to me i got so nervous i immediately deleted it because i got so scared. i downloaded it again a month or so ago and at first everything went okay and i actually used it regularly, but there was a point where suddenly so many people were talking to me my brain just shut down and i haven’t really used it since (though i feel very sorry and guilty about it). i really hope we can both somehow overcome this problem, because communication is of course one of the most important parts for language learning!! good luck to you
Why are you nervous when using an app ? You could literally use a fake name and fake picture, it would be the same as typing this comment on RUclips, completely anonymously.
I have it but İm like: Ohh this girl seems nice 2 sec later: Should I say hello? But then what am I gonna say? What if she doesnt wanna talk to me? Should I wait for someone to chat me?
I also use it from time to time, but sometimes there are soooo many unanswered messages that I’m even afraid to open it 😹 people are really active there :))
I guess it depends on the languages you're using, I have started using the app with a rather uncommon pair of languages and i am struggling to find conversation partners :/ but i see how an overflow of messages could happen and i would definitely be overwhelmed too :p
The problem is when you're really cool in chat but awkward in calls and irl 😂 I literally had a convo like this in a call Me: hola (hi) X: hola ¿cómo estás? (Hi, how are you?) Me: bien (fine) X: quieres practicar alemán (wanna practice German?) Me: ok, hallo (hi) X: hallo (hi) (And like that with Korean, Czech, and English 😂😂)
Here's a tip direct the conversation from the start. So that you're practicing what your learning. Tell them you want yo practice phrases. Or just start talking and say then to lead the conversation. You can work vocabulary words into phrases. For example my hobbies are Working out at the gym or if they ask the gym.......... let's say recently you learned the word lifestyle in your target language. Add to that it's a lifestyle to work that new word into conversation to practice. Don't carry on with small talk too much. Because that isn't pressing you further in speaking. If you do that you'll stay a. A beginner level. Ask or initiate more meaningful conversation. Now if they direct it in a more meaningful way then just go with that.
The amount of times I've been ignored by people on HelloTalk lol. I remember a non-native english speaker I knew got soo many messages that his phone broke and I was sitting there with a bunch of "Hey, whats up!" conversations open with no response - luckily, I don't take it personally. I'm gonna give it one more go
I'm going to tell you that is really hard to find someone that will talk to you, I remember years ago I was sending messages to a lot of people like 30 lol and just one or two answered me, but I made a really good friend and we have been talking for 3 years :D Don't give up!
@@beayeon445 One thing to remember is that people are at a different place in their journeys and I don't always have slots open to take in new friends. (Slots open in my time.) So I have a lot of people I never have replied to that may have made a perfect partner for me but I will never know because I never replied to them. But conversations fizzle out over time and these slots open up for me. I find that I have made friends through groups. The conversation flows even when I am not there and I can scroll back to catch up and then inject my feckless meandering in there.
Oh I downloaded it just now to give it a try. Previously I used to be a Tandem user but result was unsatisfactory as most of the people there saw it as a dating app where they could be going fishing. *sigh*

I can understand, speak, and write in English, but I still not consider myself fluent. I just want to say thank you for the videos. With your videos, I feel like I am not alone in learning new languages. Good review. I have a lifetime membership but I haven’t checked out a lot of these learning features you went over I just talked to tons of Japanese people and read a lot of moments. I have tried to get friends to check this app out but they’re like “I already have a social media app.” But this is different! Falls on deaf ears. I love this app. My ID is kraemder.
i recently redownloaded it, i tend to forget about it for a few months at a time lol >.< but i really love the app. people are always very nice and the sentence corrections are extremely helpful!!
Learning Mandarin I currently use both HelloTalk & Tandem, and overall I think HelloTalk is better. As a comparison, HelloTalk users tend to be more serious language learners compared to Tandem which is almost overwhelmingly active. Within two days on Tandem I had roughly 80 people message me and I would lose hours chatting on there in only my native language. It was fun, but less productive to my goals. Using HelloTalk I have to be much more active myself otherwise it would just be silent. The gender mix on Tandem has been very even, which is a positive. HelloTalk however is more boy to girl / girl to boy in my opinion. At the end of the day both have been (and are) beneficial. It would seem that native Mandarin speakers use Tandem much more, with feedback suggesting that HelloTalk is more active with users seeing to hook up, not learn another language. I will likely continue to use both until I settle to a few really strong partners to learn from.
I don't know if it's just me but I tried both Hellotall and Tandem and texted many people and some of them even answered an we chatted but the thing is they never continue the conversation if I don't keep asking questions and stuff... it's literally depressing me
Hello Talk is the app that literally had changed my life! I d met my wife which gave birth to our wonderful son and now am waiting my visa to be reunited with them in US! Had never thought I would meet the RIGHT girl! She s absolutely STUNNING, KIND AND GREAT!

Thank you for this. I've been wanting to practice speaking with a native speaker of Korean as well as make a new friend that speaks the language. I started learning a month ago.😅 My main concern was if I could find anyone my age as sometimes speaking with people on social media can be tricky🙈. But thanks for clearing that up.
Would be ok to use these types of app if I'm reallyyyy a beginner in the language I'm learning? I feel like I don't have much vocabulary yet to hold a conversation, so i don't know if that would work. 😔
The reason is probably because there is barely any content to learn it. I was going nuts to learn Egyptian Arabic, but literally everything is in MSA ( الفصحى) so just learned that instead.
@@LindieBotes I speak Afrikaans, but then again i am South African. BTW you're videos are really helpful and encouraging as I am trying to learn many languages and I've started with Korean. So, thank you😅

Texting is helpful first cause you don't need to show your face or do a voice call! Just start by saying sentences you know or by commenting on people's posts and you'll break out of your shell soon :D
I messaged someone and they left me on read. I was like, thats wierd. So I translated what u said to them. Remember this is using my own Japanese I didn't translate this before sending. I said, Good morning, im my wife, nice to meet you, Japanese. I'm an American.
I have downloaded this a month ago and I found it helpful since native korean speakers are willing to make corrections as well as posting on their timeline about tips, slangs, culture and recommending videos that they consider helpful for korean learners. :) P.S I wonder if you've made a specific video or discussed in-depth some tips or advice for those who have no chance or capacity to go or stay in the country where the language you're learning is widely spoken and if fluency is still achievable in that situation? Do you think watching korean tv shows, drama, youtube videos or using apps like hellotalk is enough?
Really? What languages are you practicing? I've found people are very excited to talk on HelloTalk, but I actually use the timeline feature a lot more to talk to people :D
Try posting moments. I've had better engagement there than DMs. Folks usually come on really strong for about a week and then you never hear from them again... 😂

i have had some great talks on there but all in English, my native language. Ive found a lot of people treat it a bit like a dating app unfortunately.
3:11 hhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Thank u for the review lindie u re the best 💜🙆
HAHAHAH
Good review. I have a lifetime membership but I haven’t checked out a lot of these learning features you went over I just talked to tons of Japanese people and read a lot of moments. I have tried to get friends to check this app out but they’re like “I already have a social media app.” But this is different! Falls on deaf ears. I love this app. My ID is kraemder.
But what I heard abut language "exchanges" is that men usually go there to flirt with women..... what is a minus for me
Look on the bright side, it's still language practice :D
Exactly, most of the messages I get are kinda creepy :D
😔no one want to learn hindi?? (Indian language )Is there anyone who needs to learn Hindi?
@@anjalinath8545 I am learning Hindi! (:
Im just confused on what language to speak 👁💧👄💧👁 like should i speak my native or the language im tryin to learn- :'D
I just wanna chat with someone with English to improve my english skill. But no one chat with me.🤐🤐
Be careful there’s a lot of creepy, aggressive men , bullies
Hello there.. Unrelated question:
When did you start learning languages?
i recently redownloaded it, i tend to forget about it for a few months at a time lol >.< but i really love the app. people are always very nice and the sentence corrections are extremely helpful!!
I used to use HelloTalk a few years ago but I couldn't be bothered to keep up with all the mundane conversations I was having lol.
😂😂😂hehehhhe.... where are you from???
I meet my best friend on Italki we text and call each other everyday she is from Egypt.
I don't know if it's just me but I tried both Hellotall and Tandem and texted many people and some of them even answered an we chatted but the thing is they never continue the conversation if I don't keep asking questions and stuff... it's literally depressing me
I just downloaded HelloTalk a few days ago, that's because of your recommendation.. AND I LOVE IT!!!! 정말 감사하고 당신은 진짜 예쁘다~~
Hello Talk is the app that literally had changed my life! I d met my wife which gave birth to our wonderful son and now am waiting my visa to be reunited with them in US! Had never thought I would meet the RIGHT girl! She s absolutely STUNNING, KIND AND GREAT!
@@hala-si3pn Yes I am!
That's the size of the picture you could not open it
Oh! Thankfully.I finally got the system recommendation of you video. I have been searching your videos for longs since couple years ago. Won’t miss to subscribe this time. Love your videos~😬
How to post longer audio files at moments? I only have 5 seconds minimum...
You can ask the app developer - I would have no idea :)
Thanks so much for this video! I’ve been meaning to get a language exchange app and was a bit lost when it came to which one to try... This was really motivating. I’ll definitely try Hellotalk and let you know how it goes!
Hellotalk would be great - but it's only for phones, not PCs with bigger screens.
Sis,it's full free app?
I can't seem to find partners who are interested in my native language (Egyptian Arabic)
I'm sure it'll come with time! Not many people want to learn my home language Afrikaans either.
So, thank you😅
@@DavedSitt Yeah that's probably why, I wish the country just makes the dialect less frowned upon as an official formal language, but this will never happen unfortunately because Arabs are conservative and don't want anything to replace the MSA as the official written language
@@Khal_dude Yeah it's really challenging; in order to be considered fluent in Arabic, one needs to learn two languages. I wish there were more people advocating for dialectical Arabic.
They won’t let me choose two languages without paying 😢
I have horrible social anxiety and I’m scared people are going to judge
Can I start my journey to learn English along with u bt at that time my english not very good
nobody talks to me there, I'm always the one starting the convos.. btw I learn French
The same with Japanese✌️
Thanks hello top I thought you could only chose one language cuz I want to learn 2 or 3 at a time too spanish , Arabic & the first language there ever was
I got curious. is anyone studying french here? looking for study partners
I study french too🙋🏽♀️
@@loumika_9629 want to chat on twitter?
I’ve used a long time ago then forgot and deleted. But I’ve found 2-3 friends and we’re still friends on insta (5 years passed)
Maybe I will come back if I remember my username
is there anyone serious and active ,he want to practice and improve English together ?
where are you from bro
Where are you from? X2
Where are you from? X3 xd
great review
but I don´t understand the language limit for VIP´s
Hey. I've had HelloTalk on my phone for some time but thanks to your video today I was able to really start using it and taking advantage of all its features. Thank you so much for posting this video, it really inspired me today.
I an introvert and I do not really like meeting new people.
why are reviews so low 2.9...if this is so good?
Just downloaded hellotalk because of this video! I am already talking to people in Chinese and getting ready to practice my reading and writing
If u know someone wants to learn Chinese plz introduce him or her to me
Easy to make friends and get contact info through line, we chat, etc. But conversations don't go anywhere after awhile and hard tk maintain friendships but good to practice and develop language and culture understanding.
Hii dear,I am new on Hello Talk App, I have set by mistake my native language is Chinese, now i unable to change. Can you please help!
hi can anyone help me , i have hello talk but im not sure how to teach English and learn spanish , in other words exchange languages with people on the app i don’t know how to start
What if someone uses the app as tinder? Is that common and what do you do if that happens?
I want to get this app but like I really feel like it is slightly iffy and my parents wouldnt like it😂
When I first saw the section HelloWords I immediately thought that it looks like Drops
I think that it inspired them to do this section
I’m very confident to chat with strangers, but I’m scared to talk. I don’t know why and how should I fix it ㅠㅡㅠ
I typed おはいよございます。わたしわさんだです。はじぇえまって。わたしわあめりかんじん
That's happened, i myself wanna learn english but i found no body in that From whom i can learn
I have downloaded this a month ago and I found it helpful since native korean speakers are willing to make corrections as well as posting on their timeline about tips, slangs, culture and recommending videos that they consider helpful for korean learners. :)
P.S I wonder if you've made a specific video or discussed in-depth some tips or advice for those who have no chance or capacity to go or stay in the country where the language you're learning is widely spoken and if fluency is still achievable in that situation? Do you think watching korean tv shows, drama, youtube videos or using apps like hellotalk is enough?
I've been using HelloTalk but i can't seem to find anyone who wants to learn Filipino lmao.
I already had the app. But no one is interested in talking...
Really? What languages are you practicing? I've found people are very excited to talk on HelloTalk, but I actually use the timeline feature a lot more to talk to people :D
@@LindieBotes i was learning german previously. But after watching your video im reconsidering to download and learn japanese this time.
Try posting moments. I've had better engagement there than DMs. Folks usually come on really strong for about a week and then you never hear from them again... 😂
What language can you teach?
Becoming a VIP member and subscribing for the lessons are the same or you have to do it separately? (So do you pay twice?) I’m just curious 😄 thanks for the answers in advance 🙈💕
I started using HelloTalk this year and it has boosted my confidence in speaking Mandarin more.
R u studying Mandarin? Im a native Chinese.I just download hellotalk to improve my English. Can we help each other?
Wow you are learning Chinese? Me too! Its so hard to find partner that wants to learn the languages you know 😂
@@bluejay9559 Sure, would love to. What's your name on hellotalk?
@@annacrystal9329 Yep, I am! Girl I know, I feel you on that. It's hard and it is also hard looking for the ways that can help both parties improve the language he/she is learing
@@DUPE321 My name is 江杰 but there some same names. Can u send me an Email? 475036750@qq.com Im very glad to have a partner
I met someone who is my language partner & genuine friend on Hello Talk. Language exchange sites & apps have given me life long friends. They're amazing!
it's hard for chinese to find a english exchange partner, cause there are so many chinese looking for english partners, but only a few english native speakers wanna learn chinese💁🏻
Its really true and Im the guy who r looking a ....(sry,I want to cry for a while)
You are so cute and nice hhhh when you were saying that “it is always nice to ask them if they want to be corrected” Just accidentally found this APP yesterday and it seems a good tool for the language learners who are looking for partners!
I've already used this app too, It's lovely app ㅎㅎ I have some followers too. I'm still learning other languages. And I'm also happy to help other learner who stduy Korean. I cheer all learners who study other languages ^^ 💖
Don't bother using it, people will just ignore you if you are not from USA, especially if you are not a cute girl xD
😥
Woah this is bizarre. I downloaded it to learn Spanish but I found the app extremely laggy and I just got a lot of men sending me "Hey" (not necessarily malicious I know, but when there are so many of them, it gets tiresome). I do however somewhat stay in touch with one person from HelloTalk.
I deleted the app in favour of Tandem. But ironically Tandem started to be just as buggy around the same time. Maybe I just need a new phone tbh.
This makes me want to download it again, but not for Spanish. Maybe I have to delete my account and make a new one to switch language.
Yes!! There are a lot of weird people on hello talk, such a shame
I just downloaded the app one week ago given your recomandation in another video. Thanks for the explication how to use it :D
you can speak korean and english very well.. I envy you
I used it when I was first learning Korean, but I lost that device and then it failed everytime I tried to download it again :/
I miss it, it really helped with my confidence since I was less shy talking to people I'd never meet in real life.
Is this app safe ..like can nearby people find us?
Getting started is hard, I've tried to interact with people and I get seenzoned a lot lol. Idk it's kinda sad :/
I'm using it for about a year now,it is very helpful for learning new languages ,and improve your communication skills, and also make global friends 😀
I started my Chinese language journey with my one year old son! You are my inspiration!!!
Its good app i have downloaded now😊😊😊😊
Nice, thanks. I hope meet you in helotalk
Hi
I just want to know how can I start my own channel to that people can join live session,
I joined channel many time But I don't know how to start our own
I will be Thankful
Literally have never heard about this app... which is weird, since I've been using other similar ones for a long time. Thanks for the recommendation. I like the timeline thing. Way easier to tell something about yourself like that than update the description all the time.
you’re videos are amazing. wish you the best and be safe. ly
HelloTalk is so good. Not only do you improve your language skills, you really meet great people and learn heaps about a different country.
It's been ages since I last used it, but I still talk with 3 or 4 friends that I made back then
You made me want to use the app again haha
Don't subscribe to this app. HT can block you for the silliest of reasons then refuse to refund your money!
wake up guys! I am warning you never try
