I'm on both apps and it's overwhelming how many people contact me on tandem and it's surprising that I don't even need to search for natives, they just find me. I don't get messaged so much on hellotalk and I'm happy with that because I don't feel the rush to answer to everyone as I do on tandem. I love the community wall, it gives hellotalk a very friendly look.

I really loved the Hello Talk App. Unfortunately I am not a big texter 😅😅. So I would tend to frustrate my partners cuz I don't answer them quickly. I find that the Hello Talk Wall, where you can post stuff is really interesting though. It is kind of like a social media App for language learners. That is really cool. Great video Camille. I downloaded both apps for learning Spanish and Japanese, nut put them aside on seeing they're exchange apps. Very outside my comfort zone. I found this channel looking for tips on using it.
HelloTalk is good but full of indians, Pakistanis & Arabs looking to speak to girls. If a girl can get past that part it's pretty good, even the free version. As a native English speaker AND male, it's not easy to find language partners right off the bat, but not impossible either. Women will have more success.
Thank you! I think that’s up to you. If you feel comfortable and prefer to talk on WhatsApp that’s fine. It doesn’t have the cool tools to correct messages.
Great video! I know it's not of your business but I used Tandem for almost 5 years and I had 182 references. I helped so many people with their English, but out of the blue I was banned from the app. That was weird cuz I have never mistreated anyone there. Not a clue if it was someone who was jealous of my references or maybe becuase I was helping people for free and some of the teachers reported me. Or even someone who has sent me inapropirate messages and when I was about to report them, they reported me first. Anyways, despite my sadness I can say it's a great app to practice a language.
I have the SAME story as you. I got banned for no reason. I had over 30 references. I was helping people there too. I don’t know what happened. I tried to get back on but couldn’t. The crazy thing is I never initiated a conversation there I only responded to people that first talked to me. So I don’t know what happened either but I felt like it was super unfair and strange. I’m sorry it also happened to you. Such a disappointment. 😭
@@LearnEnglishwithCamille I got the answer for that now, some friends of mine who I made in this app told me the reason was I shared my IG there, I mean, I put it on my profile and I had been warned to not do this once. I did it again cuz I forgot the first warning, eventually they didn't want to warn me again. LoL.

Hi Camille, how can you catch up with all these messages? that's insane lol, by the way there aren't so many ways to get others respond you, the important thing for me is: Don't say just hi! personally if i don't enjoy the conversation i can't stand the conversation and obviously i can't even learn, so it's important to relate with people, that is not something you can take for granted 😅, that's how it would be in usual conversation in our life, being respectful is important though, not responding it's not me, nevertheless i try to ask people to talk in their target language (especially audio messages) and share some information about them so we can know better each other, anyway nice video! well done Camille's staff!

honestly hellotalk is really become sucks for regular users cuz they have many bugs issues and now they stick the new vip rule on that place where regulre users can no longer talk to outsiders as before expect those people who learning our language

My experience with Tandem is very negative. For around a year had only 2 language partners who wanted learn and help me with their language. Massive amount of users are not interested in learning and quite often a chat ended up after " hello" if they bothered to response. Wouldn't recommend it to serious people. It's more like dating side rather that a language app.
You know what Camille? It is not that bad that audio messages length in Hello talk is just 1 minute, you have to be smart enough to deliver your idea in 1 minute, if you need more time, you can just simply record another message. Or you can do a phone call. Plus, now in 2022 you can also do live steaming with as much people as you want, and you can raise up to 4 people that can use their cameras online on stage.

The only thing that I can see hellotalk lacs is the ability to post videos. Their list of rules no politics guns pornography drugs although I like it on the one hand on the other hand I don't like it I like freedom of speech and the ability to discuss your opinions on those subjects.

As a Chinese , in china ,lots of people use this app maybe use it to improve themselves in speaking English ,I don't know if there have many people who come from USA use it.
Question...I only know English but I want to learn Japanese and Spanish. I tried downloading Tandem for fun, but I have no idea how to communicate with native speakers to teach me. Especially when I can't even read what they are saying. Is there still a way for me to learn languages on this type of language learning app?
I think if you are an absolute beginner it’s not worth trying to speak to natives. Study on your own to at least have a base. Once you’re ready to have basic conversations you can pay for the premium and be able to translate all messages for free.
Is the app also good if you just want to use the app and reply back whenever you want? Do people expect me to reply back fast? I just don't wanna be caught in something and feel forced to do something. I hope my question made sense😀

hey, great video! I am from london and am learning Russian. I have downloaded and deleted tandem multiple times because when I install the app I end up starting strong with learning the language and then eventually I end up just chit chatting with people for no reason and then I delete it. Have you got any tips on how to STAY productive with the app?
Thanks Kian! I hear you 😅you can “waste” time on the apps to. I think first-what does productivity mean to you? What is your goal? Set a practical measurable goal. Another idea is trying to find people that you can chat with on a daily basis-it might take some trial and error. If your level is up to being able to make phone calls try doing a language exchange with phone calls too. I always feel super productive and find it really aides the learning process. I also have a video about making effective language calls. I hope these ideas help.

Honestly they banned me too. I don’t know why either. At the time I was sharing my RUclips channel so I think some reported it. Then like a year later they asked me to create content and unbanned me 🤣 platforms like that can be frustrating. I hope you figure it out. 🙏🏻ps I don’t share my channel there anymore 😂😂

Try them both, I ended up staying on HelloTalk. I love the community wall there. Tandem doesn’t have that. But you can leave references for people on tandem, which HelloTalk doesn’t have. Try them both and let me know what you stick with ☺️
I do a mix! Some days we will write one language and other days another language. I recommend having a phone call spending 10 to 15 minutes in each target language.
I just joined tandem and I see what she is talking about, I'm already overwhelmed. I really only have time on weekend nights. I'm getting a bunch of "hi" messages, yes please write more. It's nice to be wanted 😅. I hope they potentially like having a southern accent since I've noticed most foreigners end up with a Californian accent lol.

I was transferred for 3 months with Cubans who didn't know a lot of english and I wanted to ask questions about Cuba. I've tried learning italian and german in the past (early 2000s) but there wasn't much resources back then so I never got anywhere. If my spanish/italian goes well I'm going to see about learning all the Romance languages. Spanish has already helped with italian.
That’s great! I learned the main 4 Latin languages and you’re right, learning one will help you with another. Plus being a native English speaker you won’t have a problem finding awesome speaking partners. I have met at least 15 of my speaking partners in real life 😍

So french, italian, spainsh and portuguese? (Brazilian or European?). I'd like to learn those (European portuguese in my case) probably catalan/Romanian eventually. Then maybe german and dutch..I'm not going to count my chickens yet though, I'll see how the first two go :). Ive also been messing around with Esperanto for fun, I like that its close to english grammer. I do know a few phrases in german and French (both are a lot harder vs spainsh and italian imo). How long did it take you to learn these languages?
That’s amazing! I spent 2 years learning Spanish (lived in Mexico for a year and Spain for 2) I spent 1.5 years with Italian (3 months there) 1 year with Portuguese (3 months in Brazil) and 2 years with French (1 week in France).
If you're trying to learn English on HelloTalk, it will be extremely difficult because there are so many more people trying to learn English than native English speakers trying to learn your language. I would recommend using the Moments section a lot and try to find someone there who you have common interests with.

Maybe you will have to start the process over, with a new email. That’s the only suggestion I have. Tandem customer service isn’t very good.

On hellotalk I was reported for someone anonymous 😅
But they gave me a solution through a short video around 30 to 60 seconds.
But I couldn't get it
So I deleted my old account and I create a new one and bought my lifetime plan. Now I am secure at least a little bit.

My experience with Tandem is very negative. For around a year had only 2 language partners who wanted learn and help me with their language. Massive amount of users are not interested in learning and quite often a chat ended up after " hello" if they bothered to response. Wouldn't recommend it to serious people. It's more like dating side rather that a language app.

You know what Camille? It is not that bad that audio messages length in Hello talk is just 1 minute, you have to be smart enough to deliver your idea in 1 minute, if you need more time, you can just simply record another message. Or you can do a phone call. Plus, now in 2022 you can also do live steaming with as much people as you want, and you can raise up to 4 people that can use their cameras online on stage.
The app has changed a lot since I made this video. I was one of the live streamers for 3 months 😊

Yea more like dating and flirting it’s not just guys too it’s girls idk how people can do online and long distance dating that’s crazy lol. But I have made a lot of long term friends to learn languages and more importantly meet with them when I go to their countries only good thing about tandem is references and unlimited messaging but it’s a bit limited not as engaging since it doesn’t have a feed and live chat 💬 or liking others profile etc. language exchange

Question...I only know English but I want to learn Japanese and Spanish. I tried downloading Tandem for fun, but I have no idea how to communicate with native speakers to teach me. Especially when I can't even read what they are saying. Is there still a way for me to learn languages on this type of language learning app?
I think if you are an absolute beginner it’s not worth trying to speak to natives. Study on your own to at least have a base. Once you’re ready to have basic conversations you can pay for the premium and be able to translate all messages for free.
Is the app also good if you just want to use the app and reply back whenever you want? Do people expect me to reply back fast? I just don't wanna be caught in something and feel forced to do something. I hope my question made sense😀
You can use your own rhythm and pace. Sometimes I take up to a week to respond because I am so busy but I have other people I respond to daily! ☺️

You can use Hellotalk from your computer! Not sure about tandem.

hey, great video! I am from london and am learning Russian. I have downloaded and deleted tandem multiple times because when I install the app I end up starting strong with learning the language and then eventually I end up just chit chatting with people for no reason and then I delete it. Have you got any tips on how to STAY productive with the app?
Thanks Kian! I hear you 😅you can “waste” time on the apps to. I think first-what does productivity mean to you? What is your goal? Set a practical measurable goal. Another idea is trying to find people that you can chat with on a daily basis-it might take some trial and error. If your level is up to being able to make phone calls try doing a language exchange with phone calls too. I always feel super productive and find it really aides the learning process. I also have a video about making effective language calls. I hope these ideas help.

I had an account on Tandem, but I don’t know why I was banned now. I created another account, but for more than 7 days, no response.
Honestly they banned me too. I don’t know why either. At the time I was sharing my RUclips channel so I think some reported it. Then like a year later they asked me to create content and unbanned me 🤣 platforms like that can be frustrating. I hope you figure it out. 🙏🏻ps I don’t share my channel there anymore 😂😂

Try them both, I ended up staying on HelloTalk. I love the community wall there. Tandem doesn’t have that. But you can leave references for people on tandem, which HelloTalk doesn’t have. Try them both and let me know what you stick with ☺️

I do a mix! Some days we will write one language and other days another language. I recommend having a phone call spending 10 to 15 minutes in each target language.

I just joined tandem and I see what she is talking about, I'm already overwhelmed. I really only have time on weekend nights. I'm getting a bunch of "hi" messages, yes please write more. It's nice to be wanted 😅. I hope they potentially like having a southern accent since I've noticed most foreigners end up with a Californian accent lol.

@@LearnEnglishwithCamille hello! I'm learning Spanish, also a little Italian on the side. I've been learning it for 5 months. I was transferred for 3 months with Cubans who didn't know a lot of english and I wanted to ask questions about Cuba. I've tried learning italian and german in the past (early 2000s) but there wasn't much resources back then so I never got anywhere. If my spanish/italian goes well I'm going to see about learning all the Romance languages. Spanish has already helped with italian.
That’s great! I learned the main 4 Latin languages and you’re right, learning one will help you with another. Plus being a native English speaker you won’t have a problem finding awesome speaking partners. I have met at least 15 of my speaking partners in real life 😍

So french, italian, spainsh and portuguese? (Brazilian or European?). I'd like to learn those (European portuguese in my case) probably catalan/Romanian eventually. Then maybe german and dutch..I'm not going to count my chickens yet though, I'll see how the first two go :). Ive also been messing around with Esperanto for fun, I like that its close to english grammer. I do know a few phrases in german and French (both are a lot harder vs spainsh and italian imo). How long did it take you to learn these languages?
That’s amazing! I spent 2 years learning Spanish (lived in Mexico for a year and Spain for 2) I spent 1.5 years with Italian (3 months there) 1 year with Portuguese (3 months in Brazil) and 2 years with French (1 week in France).

If you're trying to learn English on HelloTalk, it will be extremely difficult because there are so many more people trying to learn English than native English speakers trying to learn your language. I would recommend using the Moments section a lot and try to find someone there who you have common interests with.

Those of us whose native language are in the top of the most demanded have more opportunities to exchange. Unfortunately I've read profiles of youngsters trying to exchange English or Spanish with there lovely languages like Serb or Czech.
