- I'm a fan of musicals, and have been in my fair share of them. And over the years I've enjoyed them, none has caught me off-guard by how genuinely good it was like Shrek: The Musical. This musical is something special, and I believe that this production does everything that the movie tries to do, but better.
Let's venture into this amazing musical, and let's discuss why I believe it's so unironically amazing.

I knew I couldn't be the only one who loved the musical, that song about Shrek actually wanting to be a hero almost made me cry, and I never cry with movies, I mean this is basically another movie.
I've seen a lot of movie reviews
but this one is the best review.
Shrek the musical is epic
Now I get some points you make but the original Shrek movie was still a wonderful masterpiece. And Fiona wasn't a stale character at all and she was very funny and likable. Yes, the Musical had a better showing of the tale but that doesn't mean you bash the movie because that was a success too!!

I can understand why you didn't know this, but videos of Bway musicals are called proshots, not films :)
Pinocchio was played by a man named John Tartaglia and if you like him, you should listen to the Sirius XM on broadway radio channel and check out the musical he wrote, which is called Avenue Q.
To be more specific, its 8,423 days in the tower.
There are also references to Pippin, Gypsy, and Dreamgirls, off the top of my head.
When talking about other songs to listen to, there is a song for the Dragon that was added for the national tour that was called "Forever" and that was where the dreamgirls reference comes in. It is really sassy and fun but still it conveys the isolation and pain that that character experienced like the other principles.
If you haven't guessed, I am a HUGE theatre fan and I'm in a production of Shrek and I'm playing the Dragon lol

Donkey Potpie is great but was cut after it left Broadway. Was replaced with Forever which, for me, is a better, funnier song.

I've been die hard obsessed with this since 2015 and to this day, my favourite lines are Fiona's: ''I am sweetness, I am Bratty, I'm a princess, I'm a fatty, I'm a mess of contradictions in a dress'' And where Shrek sings ''I know I'm not the handsome prince, for whom you waited, I don't have a fancy castle, and I'm not sophisticated, a princess and an ogre, i admit, is complicated, you've never read a book like this, but fairytales should really be updated.'' And im not even gonna talk about how amazing Who I'd be cause that would end up a freakin essay.

When I got to see this musical in the live tour they replaced Donkey Pot Pie with another song (and had a much better puppet for Dragon) Haven't been able to find that version of the song, though.

This play is way better than it had any right to be. You just know DreamWorks came up with the idea as a lazy cash grab, but the team they hired to make it put so much effort into the music, production, writing, acting, direction, set design and makeup. They really cared about making this play good and it shows. I went in expecting it to suck but was pleasantly surprised. Now I find myself watching it quite a bit.
