@@ascentar6713 That would still stay Aaron Stone, which was unfortunately, after 2 great (by child standard) seasons, was ended on a cliffhanger without renewal (and I will never forgive Disney for it).
no way they made Bree's outfiit have high heels and she's the one that runs fast. no way Leo saying, "LIVING IN MY BASEMENT!" is so iconic that him saying living on a bionic island sounds so unatural
You mentioned the weird bit where extras aren't allowed to talk, and I'm reminded of that one joke from Victorious where the teacher wanted something from the main cast and one of them asks "Why do you keep having us do this?" and the teacher replies "Because the other kids don't really talk. Like, at all." and another one says "Yeah, they just kinda sit there and... react."
i think the whole talking thing has to do with extras having to be paid more if they have a speaking line. if they don’t have any lines they just get the regular pay
The thing that made lab rats cool to me as a kid was that they were the only bionic kids in the world which made them special, I can accept Marcus, Daniel, and Leo being bionic but like 100 other kids made them seem less cool. I remember when Sebastian was talking about how he was basically as smart as chase it made me feel bad for chase. I feel like having just the six (Adam,Bree,Chase,Daniel,Marcus, and Leo) would’ve been fine for me especially with the adding of Daniel. I know a lot of people thought it was random to add him but I quite liked him. I just think the whole 100 bionic kids in an island bored me
100%. Same for me. I stopped watching when it got to 100+ they didn’t feel special anymore, Expecially with the new kids being “smarter” or “faster”. I compare this feeling to DC’s The Flash. I enjoy the first season but it just gets boring to me the more speedsters the show adds, it makes him less unique, and they are almost always faster than him.
agree 100%! the 4th season completely broke the original set up of the show that made it interesting in the first place, being that adam, bree, and chase were the only bionic humans (that we knew of) in the world and no one being allowed to know about that except the davenports, and as a result the show became harder and harder to enjoy, with the 4th season being too far gone from what made it enjoyable before
I think I mainly found it more boring because every episode early on was about them keeping it a secret in creative ways, it got boring and repetitive in the later seasons cause of the boring plot
I remember even watching it as a kid and being frustrated and annoyed at the whole island thing. The reason I loved the show was watching these robot-y teens trying to fit into a world with a bunch of "normal" people
@@gooeater1544 did you like Sebastian you know before he turned evil and started the rebellion and do you think that Chase telling Sebastian about krane was the right thing to do since the truth about krane could have come out anyway even if Chase didn’t tell Sebastian about Krane.
“Lab Rats has better things to do than make logical sense”, truer words have never been spoken, that just sums up the entire series and wraps it in a neat bow.
@@ninjajeb Thank you! All the silly shit that's happened in the show had me laughing for days 😂🤣! Especially Leo, Leo Douelly was really one of my favorite characters. I love how he went from this bratty kid to actually mature member of the team 😁. That's why I was so pissed he wasn't in Lab Rats Elite Force 😡.
I'm glad someone finally noticed how incredibly unfair the writing was to the character of Marcus, the guy had every right to be angry and was clearly looking for a father/mother figure (as you can see calling the villain "mom") . Douglas is an abusive father and he came out of all of that well.
I’d love to see a fanfic either address how sad his life was or give him a pseudo redemption arc that focuses on him, Leo, and Douglass (before he comes back at the end)
I agree. Marcus could have a very intresting character arc. His motivation is quite understandable and complex and his rivarly with the Adam, Bree, Chase and Leo is dynamic. Write off Daniel and focus on Marcus, his revenge story and his final redemption. Also, the fact that Douglas didn't face any consequestions is incredibly annoying. This guy is responsible for why Marcus was a villain in the first place, but the series let him go with an ok.
marcus's eyebrow raise has to be his permanent resting face because that guy is doing it in EVERY scene hes in, even when he's just standing behind someone
Years ago when I first saw him on lab rats I had such a crush on him! 😂 And I would like and comment on all his photos on Instagram and one day he liked one of my photos! I straight up died! He went on my Instagram, saw me and liked it?! Wtf! 😂 He’s still super gorgeous too
To this day, Leo’s reaction to Marcus blaming him for the guitar thing is the best I’ve ever seen in that situation. Like, normally the protagonist does the whole “why are you doing this to me?” or “I just wanted to be friends” whereas Leo is just like “… bitch” and knows where they stand. Also, it makes sense why Adam and Chase would believe Marcus over Leo because he’s been transparently jealous and petty for the entire show at that point.
He really does just narrow his eyes and clocks Marcus as a bitch. it’s great. It made Leo a funny protagonist and solidified Marcus as the target of all my vitriol as a kid
The ending where Douglas finally got rid of Marcus instead of Leo was the best part because now Leo doesn’t get the opportunity to destroy his nemesis for good 😹
For some reason, a lot of shows during the time changed the status quo for their final season. Ant Farm went from the high school to a boarding school, Liv and Maddie switched to a new house, Kickin It changed dojos and Lab Rats went from a lab to an island. I think that changing the main location was something that Disney did for final seasons.
Lab Rats is definitely one of those shows that I view through rose-colored glasses. I'm 16 and still rewatch this shows regularly but I've never taken notice of any of the continuity errors, random character disappearances, or limited sets.
Lab Rats was ICONIC. Till they ruined it with 100 other bionic kids. Also the spinoff that didn’t have the two best character: Leo and Adam was such a serious crime. 😐
Yeah, it really lost its charm in the fourth season. It felt like a different show with the same characters. but I guess it was the only option to continue the show
So glad Leo was recognized as one of the carrying characters of the show, kid was absolutely amazing and I absolutely LOVED when he was taken more serious by everyone.
Reminds me of that time in Star Trek when Data knocks out a bunch of people with his phaser and says "That was the stun setting. This is not" and switches the settings on the phaser and explodes a building just to prove a point.
I like how the implication of Eddy disappearing after season 3 episode 7 is that he was finally destroyed/banished for his crimes against Tasha and humanity.
I really liked Chase as a character. I always saw his "egotism" as him being anxious to please authority figures. He's not that arrogant, he just has daddy issues.
Yo how do people notice these things this comment section is goated. AND I JUST REALIZED THEY WERE CALLING HIM MR DAVENPORT SINCE THE FIRST EPISODE BEFORE THEY KNEW ABOUT THEYRE REAL DAD. I think this was further foreshadowing Douglas being they're real father. What if at a very young age Donald told them not to call him dad and call him Mr davenport instead BECAUSE HE FELT THAT IT WASNT RIGHT. WOW😳
i think also the teens and leo don’t need davenport to be their dad, he’s certainly their family but they don’t feel the need to call him dad (even tho they refer to each other as siblings) but with marcus it’s just him and doug who isn’t very fatherly so it also makes sense that marcus is striving for a real relationship like the lab rats have with their human family and part of that could be calling marcus dad
tyrell jackson williams has sucha good performance in this show. he's genuinely likable and he knows just how to deliver those cringey disney lines In a way that sounds sincere and real. its refreshing seeing a character played by a child actor be a real character and not a one dimensional joke every single time (like a lot fo there disney shows)
I always interpreted Bree’s personality in the early seasons as a facade of sorts, just kind of puppeting various teen girl stereotypes seen in movies/tv shows. Idk if this was some kind of big-brain move by the writers to be like “she never had a chance to develop a proper personality so she’s just playing a role based on what she’s seen on tv” or just them genuinely not know how to write a teen girl.
At the beginning, it definitely seemed to be the case that it was on purpose to me. (For example, introducing herself to other girls in the first episode saying that she like horses and girl things.) Arguably it went on too long though
The problem is there isn’t a real stereotype to place her in besides being the token female on an all male show for the most part. Chase is smart and egotistical, Adam is a meat head steroid infested teenager and Bree is kind of the one that fits into the mold of a generic Disney channel girl. They could’ve made her the “spoiled favorite child” and had that factor into the adventures. Davenports only daughter whose not as rebellious as the others probably would be the spoiled one.
i think that might not have been the writer's intentions but the way the actress played it off definitely made me perceive your interpretation which made the show sm more enjoyable and layered tbh
I will admit that bree's inconsistency and unpredictability make a bit of sense considering her power, she is going a thousand miles an hour in every direction. The other two have personalities linked to their abilities as well.
I had blocked Marcus out of my mind for years, but the moment I saw him I swear such an intense sense of primal hatred hit me. I DESPISED Marcus as a kid. Everytime Marcus showed up little me wanting only pain to come to him. Literally no other character caused this, but M A R C U S
@@dawndoesartsomething I liked about Perry is that they did a good job writing her seeing as she’s meant to be a hated character who the audience is meant to hate/dislike and not us the audience just hating/disliking her
HE KEPT THEM IN A BASEMENT!!! THEIR ENTIRE LIVES!!! He experimented on them!!! Theyre totally dependant on him and can’t function in society and I think that might have been intentional!!! Like there’s secret children and there’s oh fuck I gotta call CPS and sue for custody secret children.
Anyone else notice how Bree is A LOT more upset about the possibility of Adam being dead than Chase? Not a single tear shed for Chase but yelling and losing it for Adam lmaoooooo Edit: Also noticing how much I don't like Davenport's attitude towards Douglas in the beginning. You supposedly care enough about them to steal them for their actual father but not enough to care about their birthdays or take them out of the basement??? Yeah okay lol
Idk if this matters but the actor for Bree was dating the actor of Adam at some point so maybe it is related to how she expresses emotions during acting??
TO THIS DAY, I will never forgive Disney for taking away the chance for Leo to take out Marcus, not once, but TWICE. Given the history and beef between those two, Leo vs Marcus should've been the final battle.
I 100% agree. The rivalry between Leo and Marcus was one of my favorite aspects of the show, so when Marcus came back I was fully expecting a big final rematch between the two, but then it was ruined for a joke that wasn’t even that funny.
That made me so mad. I didn't watch lab rats as a kid, I binged it during quarantine and it was great. Marcus is one of the best sitcom villains and I really wanted him to have a proper fight with Leo but they did Marcus and Leo dirty in the end.
Yeah, after all that Marcus put Leo through, made his life a living hell, tormented him, practically abused Leo and such, Leo does deserve a chance to fight his own demons if he really wants.
I think Bree’s inconsistency comes down to Disney not knowing what teenage girl stereotype give her so they gave her 2. It would make sense that she’s a tomboy bc she grew up around boys & was the only girl in the family. BUT it also would make sense that bc she spent so long around only around men she was related to, when she got the chance to be a normal girl she became very feminine & boy obsessed. They get away with it bc she’s a teenage girl and teenage girls “can never make up their mind”.
Marcus raises his eyebrow 41 seperate times in the show . He did it so much that it inspired child me to learn how to do it so i could be just like him !
I didn't even remember trent but you convinced me that he's by far the best character. A 10/10 subversion of the bully tope. Thank you for taking one for the team and putting yourself through 4 seasons of lab rats
I think the reason she was acting those ways was because of how long they were in their house without being let out. She was trying to find her actual personality instead of the personalities she's seen only in TV
Plus I would say beinga teen and having super speed as your main ability, perhaps she's always thinking a mile a minute not really able to focus on one thing for so long.
Apparently completely resetting the status quo of their shows in the final season was just something Disney channel did during that time because I remember it happening in both Ant Farm and Liv and Maddie. And in those two shows I remember it also being really weird and jarring, leading me to not seeing the end of the series. I can’t remember if this happened in any other shows besides these three, so maybe it wasn’t a huge trend. Edit: apparently this also happened in Austin and Alley, Dog With a Blog, and Kickin It
It also happened with Hannah Montana, moving the Stewarts from Malibu and rebranding the show as Hannah Montana Forever for season 4, even having Miley out herself as Hannah publicly. Jackson had a regular girlfriend as well!
And, i'm pretty sure the reason all this series got canceld is 'cause lack of audience after the chenges. some of them had no storyline reason to end, so they just ended for low audience
Douglas is the typical "I'm a villain, not a monster" character, I think it's nice that he actually cares about enough about them to not wanting to kill them
I like how he describes it as a phase because technically it was. He was angry, spiteful and jealous, he felt genuinely robbed of his "assets", blinded by the riches he could make as a war profiteer. But when that got taken away from him, he realises his life isn't suitable for a kid and sends Daniel (who he could've easily have used) to a loving foster family. He even admits how he didn't want to hurt them, or even do anything really that bad with them, just doing it for the sake of it out of spite, and when Crane shows he's serious about using the bionic kids as weapons, Douglas gets the hell out of dodge. Douglas isn't inherently a bad person, just lost his way for a while.
Fr. It’s honestly kinda an OP ability so I can see why he doesn’t use it much in the show even tho they easily could of gotten out of many situations if he used his telekinesis
If Lab Rats had a reboot where it was more serious and it had better CGI, it'd be wayyy more better; Lab Rats was easily one of Disney's best shows, with the exception of Gravity Falls.
Lab Rats post-S1 felt very much like an adult’s show that had to be made on a kid’s show budget. Even parts of S1 do. It’s an idea that even to this day, I could incredibly easily see someone at Marvel or DC going ‘hey guys I came up with this great idea’ but you get the shoddy (to adults) CGI and the Disney-show tropes. I think that honestly, as a kid, that was what made me want to watch it. My friends and I all felt like this was a show that we almost weren’t supposed to watch, it had some real plot points while being digestible to kids. I don’t really have a conclusion, except that if this idea had been produced and developed in the same way/with the same budget as a Marvel show like Jessica Jones, for example, I think I would absolutely watch it today.
for real, lab rats were one of those shows you'd watch after coming home from school and finishing your homework. you'd watch it on the couch eating cereal. it was comedic, about teens, and kids with super powers can't beat that
Yea Leo mentions this is season 4 when it’s revealed they have a brother named Daniel. He says something along the lines of “what is it with you, naming your kids in ABC order?!?!”
my new favorite genre of youtube video is multi-hour discussion of children's shows I've never watched from content creators I've never heard of before that I somehow managed to watch all the way through and be completely entertained the entire time.
Same except I binged watched all the shows as soon as I turned 18 out of curiosity. I didn’t have the time to watch most shows TV shows but then they started showing up on subscription based streaming platforms.
I'm still shocked that Leo lost his arm and they didn't really touch on it! Sure they did the stuff about the robot arm, but not how Leo felt about it :/
Him losing an arm and that later character losing her vision could have been a neat way of incorporating characters with disabilities. There’s ways of doing that well without it being bleak, considering it’s a big change in their perspectives. I’m asking way too much of Disney XD here though lmao
Lab Rats was basically: ‘What if Elon Musk had the personality of Iron Man while being the father of three Bionic Kids and creator of a sociopathic AI?’ It’s honestly not a bad concept of a show.
The one scene I still think about frequently is the one where Chase is "dead" and Adam is crying about how he wasn't a good enough brother to him and loved him. That was the best scene in all of season four. I just wish that it had carried over, like that it had more of an impact on their relationship going forward.
It really made me angry when after ALL Leo did to prove himself as a hero, he was placed as a student instead of as a mentor as well as EVERYONE babying him. He had that whole two part episode about him and he finally became a mentor but that was like 3 episodes until the series ended and even after, they still babied him.
Yeah! Like if they wanted to set him as a beginner to be fair to everyone else at the school then that’s fine, that makes sense. But the fact that they immediately assign a bunch of random amnesiac kids as above him from the get go despite never being on missions before and having no clue about how the Lab Rats actually function that’s just unfair to Leo. He shouldn’t have been a mentor class at the very beginning but he should’ve been classified as like a middle rank at the very least
I get as a kid he was small and scrawny, but as an adult, even if he didn't bulk up he still looked in decent shape, so it's not like he was flimsy. But the show had to constantly drive that nail in because they refused to let go of jokes that stopped making sense.
Personally what I found kind of disheartening, was the lack of focus placed into their familial dynamics and relationships. With an ensemble like this, I'd love if they introduced or 'toyed' with more unlikely duos. Like I wished Tasha was more present in Adam, Bree and Chase's lives to explore their dynamics with their mother figure. For example, let's have a subplot dedicated to Adam and Tasha, have them go to the mall or something. Adam wants to join Tasha to go to the mall for the experience, and Tasha's happy to have him tag along for both the bonding aspect, and for him to help carry her bags, just something sweet like that.
The whole "extras never talk" thing is something I noticed with every Disney Channel sitcom I watched and I always found it super bizarre. I don't know why the rule is in place but it makes so many scenes feel so awkward. (edit) Yes I have read the replies and I understand it's a contractual thing
its because as soon as someone talks, they have to get paid a lot more money and disney doesnt want to pay someone they dont have to. its awkward and annoying but there is a reason (whether its a good reason is up to you lol)
Iirc the law correctly, the moment an extra talked, they are upgraded to an actor immediately. Which means more payment and actual credits on the show or movie they were part of. So a show like Lab Rats, that seemed to be always stretching the budget far, probably held back extra talking to avoid that
it always looked so funny how they’d just furrow their brows or drop their hands in frustration and walk away when a character says/does something to them lmaoo
As others mentioned, the moment they talk they are paid more. It's not only a Disney Channel thing, you can find this in other tv shows or movies, but maybe it is more obvious in Disney, I don't know.
I don't think I've ever been as hype as I was when Marcus returned and gave us one final, eyebrow raise. I didn't think I'd be cheering a Disney sitcom from 10 years ago that I was too old to enjoy 10 years ago but here we are.
You're right that Markus was totally reasonable in his revenge, but children are generally totally seperate and different from their parents by 14. Markus was only like that because he was manipulated and abused.
I know it immediately got replaced with an arm that looks almost exactly the same but I'm honestly amazed disney allowed a character to get so grievously injured in a show that their arm had to be amputated.
Seeing Leo get his proper credit as the central protagonist of the series is so vindicating. If it wasn't for that tacked on sequel hook to Elite Force, the series would've started and ended with him and the lab.
That's what gets me so much about elite force. No Adam and Leo? The two most charismatic and likeable characters in the whole show? Always bugged me, even as a kid.
@@xhgcommentaryarchive elite force killed 2 shows i actually liked killing off major characters from one and banishing major characters from the other its taking 2 good shows and shoe horning them together in a way that makes both massively worse
I heard they ended elite force because it wasn't getting enough views, if they just threw leo in there im sure the show would still be around or atleast had a good 4 seasons. and honestly if you look at the show elite force there really wasn't any direction in it like Bree ends up getting bionic powers and super powers makes no sense
@@xhgcommentaryarchive when i was watching the 2 parter home-sweet-home i was literally begging that adam and leo were gonna save bree skylar and oliver and i was so dissapointed when chase and kaz saved them instead, still bugs me to this day
The villain killing herself with the laser whip is incredibly dark when you realize what it implies. She was basically cut into meaty chunks in what I imagine would be a horrific display of gore. Awesome.
I remember seeing that when I was like 9 All I could do was think about what it must have looked like 💀 Like how the hydra got its head cut off in Hercules.
The weird thing about Adam's lung capacity thing, aside from it being used before he actually gets it, is that technically Chase's bionic sneeze at the start of the series is pretty much the same thing
Chases sneeze ability wasn't control, he's couldn't just go "sneeze" and he would sneeze, I'm pretty sure it was a glitch, wheras adams ability is controlable
I think bri's personality changing every episode kind of makes sense because her character wants to fit in any way that she can so she changes her personality to fit in
@@martinwilches6583 oh really I never knew man. Maybe they did know how to write the character but you and others are oblivious to how the character was supposed to be.
i abandoned Lab Rats around season 4 as well. When they got to the Island, the family vibe really died out and instead of the powers being a device for family stories and growing pains, the powers were a device for stories about super powered beings. it went from light sci-fi to total sci-fi which didn't work as well in the corny nature of Disney Channel shows with thin tecnobabble that only slipped through due to the fact the show was self aware and it had a cartoony nature to it.
i'm sorry but "the next generation of the human race is... living in my basement?!" is leaps and bounds better than "living on a bionic island," that was the first issue
Plus it’s not like the island itself is Bionic, it’s just a regular island which happens to have bionic people on it. “Living on a private island” would’ve been a more interesting hook AND a more accurate description.
Marcuses little eyebrow thing happens at least twice in every one of his scenes and I find it so funny. It's so clear the writers found it as funny as I do

I feel like the last episode to feature Eddy gives the answer to the question of "why did Eddy never appear after this point" in a very dark way, because Eddy is so intensely and openly cruel to Tasha in that episode that it makes complete sense to me that the only possible thing that could have been done after all that was for Davenport to pull the plug on him. Eddy pulled a LOT of nasty stuff on Tasha throughout the series, but if none of Eddy's prior actions had ever resulted in Tasha threatening divorce I think that incident would have been the breaking point that made her not just threaten it but immediately start getting the paperwork together. His "death" being so unceremonious that it didn't even get highlighted in the show also makes sense to me because everyone who wasn't Davenport would have been THRILLED he was finally gone and eager to move on from thinking about him.
Correction: The field in “commando app” is not the school’s field. It is the dog park across the street from the school. Perry says this in the episode.
1:05:00 this cracked me up so much I watched it about 10 times, at which point I realized the girl mouths along mockingly with 'who's gonna be my ointment,' implying this is something he says REGULARLY? all hail trent easily one of the characters of all time
The only problem I had with this show was how Tasha was treated. It seems like she was barely there and she took some heavy insults from eddy and was not defended by Donald. She also wasn't credited in the intro and I always wondered why. Other than that I got a lot of good laughs from this. Edit: I didn't think I was gonna get this many likes. I'm glad I'm not the only person who felt this way.
For the points about extras not speaking: You gotta pay them more for having any speaking role, even if it's a single line--which can be devestating to, say, a TV show that seems to pour most of their budget into the special effects and event episodes. So to cirumvent this, all extras are simply mute.
In Life of Brian one of the extras in one scene ad libbed a line, which does make the joke a lot funnier (it’s the one where Brian wakes up to his followers and when he implores to them that they’re all individuals, they parrot the line back to him en masse except for one guy who pipes with “I’m not!”) but he still did get a pay rise.
I have a theory about Daniel. Tbh Daniel feels like an extension of what Spin and Bob kinda were in my theory, which is corporate was worried with the cast aging they'd lose some of the younger kids in their audience, probably around the 10-13 crowd. Since it was becoming very obvious the teen characters were getting older. With actors possibly not matching their characters' age (idk what any of the actors ages were as of filming so i'm just guessing but usually in most teen sitcoms it becomes very obvious within a few seasons which actors are much older than "high school" and which ones hit puberty). So the solution was to write in new characters closer to your target demos age, but that's just a theory. You're worried about kids not connecting with these bionic teens rapidly approaching adulthood anymore? Easy, just introduce a long lost 4th one conveniently in your audiences age range. At least that's what he was supposed to be for, then the show ended.
Well to answer your question most of the actors were playing their characters age, with the exception of Spencer. He was around 19-20 when the show started and Billy was 17, Kelli was 16, and Tyrel was 15
It seems like I and many others have had a similar experience of “loving this show as a kid” and “completely forgetting about it.” It’s so odd. Something that was so great about our childhood was all of a sudden wiped from our brain. I guess that’s how things work early on. Thank you so much for making this video man.
I have a decent amount of shows from my childhood that I don’t remember well but occasionally remembered watching them but this is the only one I’ve COMPLETELY forgotten about until now, this video really unlocked some memories
as much as I loved this show, Disney had a lot of trouble with the trailers where they forgot they maybe shouldn't expose literally everything about the new episode. "I'm your father" in season 2? that feels like a surprise that should only come from actually watching the episode
I literally said the same thing! Why are you revealing the twist??? Now we pretty much know what's happening days/possibly weeks in advance and the hype and mystery is no longer there, making it a bit of a waste of time
Disney channels trailers drove me crazy because of how they would always spoil the episode. What’s the point of watching if you already know what the twist is?
ok but why is no one talking about the fact that Leo literally blinded a girl.. that was such an unexpected scenario for a Disney show, so sad and dark if you think about it...
I mean I think disney shows tend to go dark (more so their cartoon shows). I remember this scene on Wizards on Weverly Place (forgive me if I didn't write the title right, I grew up with the Spanish ver.) where Alex basically killed a girl that was her BFF the same day she found out she wasn't a good person, but they brushed it off completely lol
I feel like one of the biggest issues with the latter half of season 4 onwards is that it goes from “Leo and his bionic siblings get into shenanigans” to “Leo’s siblings and the 100+ people like them are there and so is Leo sometimes”
Literally, I seriously prefer the show earlier when the main premise of the show was 3 bionic siblings trying to fit in and keep their secret from the world whilst going to high school, idk though
@@reezy21 i agree for the mostpart. when i was growing up watching the show, i loved when leo finally got his bionic arm, but from what i can remember, they really underutilized it even though it was a MAJOR part of his character that he wished he could be bionic like the others.
@@Immortal_BlazeLiterally Leo getting his bionic arm was probably my favourite episode due to the fact it actually made sense with the storyline AND gave our boy Leo a taste of that bionic life. But then it’s just rubbed in his face how he’s only part bionic, felt bad for the kid in the episodes where they wouldn’t let him do certain things because of it
I think they should’ve made a spin-off about the bionic island students being trained and given specific abilities, and then send them to the space colony. This leaves the fourth season to better develop Leo’s storyline after becoming bionic.
I remember seeing this theory a few years ago that the reason why the bionic kids are named alphabetically is because Douglas originally just named them "Subject A, B, & C" until Donald took them and gave them actual names
I don’t think Donald named them though. I agree that maybe It started like that but I feel like Douglas named them because it’s implied Donald didn’t know about Daniel, who would be “subject D”. So I think Douglas eventually named them before Donald rescued them.
I haven't watch the video yet. I just wanted to say that Lab Rats is one of the best Disney sitcoms imo. However, I wasn't a fan of the island and stopped watching all together after Mighty Med and Lab Rats became a permanent thing. I didnt really cared for Mighty Med in the first place and lost interest in Lab Rats all together when it happened. Leo and Adam leaving was the final nail in the coffin for me. Lab Rats always hold a place in my heart watching season 1 and 2 during middle school
I watched like the first episode of elite force, but they removed some of the best characters. Mighty med and lab rats were good shows on their own, and they both took a sharp decline afterwards.
@@PolandSphere sometimes, just because two things are good doesn't mean they'll be good together. it's like mixing a chocolatebar with italian cheese bread or something

"there is no lab rats fandom" you underestimate the power of young adults and ppl in their early 20's with an unhealthy attachment to the shows they grew up watching
TRUE TRUE I turned 18 this year and am on my second full watch of this show . one of my top 5 shows ever I adore it unironically and unequivocally so much
As someone who, as a kid, thought this was the coolest concept for a Disney Channel show, had the biggest crush on both Billy Unger and Kelli Berglund, and wished there was an extended version for the intro theme, the fact that this video exists and it's 3 hours long makes me feel so vindicated.
Honestly, I can't lie, the scene where Adam and Bree run in and discover Chase's "dead body" still gets me. I know it not actually being him and stuff makes it not as impactful in the long run , but I think Adam's actor really pulled off that scene. It made me so emotional watching it the first time as a kid.
It’s weird how Adam and Chase got fake out deaths and Brie got really close to a fake out death all in the spam of a few episodes, it’s like they suddenly wanted to do that trope a LOT
I had a conversation with my dad and ill say this again, I think Adam and Leo carried the show as they both were really funny but yet they got rid of them in elite force.
@@RiseLeon_Turtle that’s why that show probably wasn’t renewed, and because Mighty Med was horrible. Elite force got super low ratings and I think it’s because no one cared about the show once Adam and Leo left. I personally couldn’t watch past the first couple episodes of elite force because it just wasn’t a good show
I love how the only way Marcus' actor is able to attempt to make him look threatening is by making a 🤨 face but all I can hear everytime he does does it is the vine boom sound effect
If you think about it. Even if there was always a 4th sibling planned. It doesnt make any sense how he was able to contact douglus. Considering douglus is still supposed to be dead. They never rven tell his mom hes still alive and hes constantly hiding in season 4 from their mom. They couldve written it so that he contacted their mom and rhen she pointed him to donny and THEN donny would tell douglus and he would reveal the 4th sibling that way. Plus it is very clear that they were planning a season 5 but elite force was commisionrd and messed up both labrats and might med. So all plans for the next season were cut
I absolutely fell in love with Lab Rats. I’m a bit of a sucker for sci fi shows since you can pretty much get as creative as you want and make random words that sound smart that it’ll make more sense later. Chase is probably my favorite character; incredibly smart and his occasional freak outs and backfires in plans are hilarious. I was pretty fine with Bionic Island. I definitely loved the concept and the island itself, and there’s almost no episode I have a problems with. They were all solid to me, but some of the students (like Bob and Spin) were just kinda there. And Elite Force (love the updated theme song), yet another great concept that was honestly execute pretty decently (Leo and Adam’s exclusion was a bit disappointing, and though AJ did seem kinda shoehorned on, if I’m being honest, Bree wouldn’t have been influenced to get new powers), and they end it before it ends. To me, the previous Mighty Med crossover with Lab Rats was awesome, and having them crossover again for a full season was great. But when Episode 17 of Elite Force released on a COMPLETE cliffhanger, I and many others were confused and furious. I remember hearing that it was due to low ratings, which (A) that’s what you get for moving it to Disney XD, which is Disney’s version NickToons that little have access to, (B) even if they didn’t move it to Disney XD, why cancel it immediately like that, and (C) I find that to be a bit untrue since both Lab Rats and Might Med respectively did well enough on Disney Channel. Putting them in a crossover combining bionic abilities and superhero abilities is genius. But you can’t be like Nickelodeon and bring that idea over to a platform that NOT ONLY reruns past shows or shows you don’t give a chance to before airing them, but remains on a channel that many didn’t have have access to. And for those who still use cable, unless your DVR is chocked full of episodes, Lab Rats more so airs on holidays like Halloween and Christmas on Disney XD, alongside Wander Over Yonder and Randy Cunningham (god, I miss those shows). Yeah, as you can probably guess, I didn’t show immense amounts of pickiness; aside from the executive’s decisions on Elite Force, I mainly listed the more positive things. As someone who saw the entire series before turning 15, I wasn’t as smart as I am now to form a concrete opinion. But I still adore this review! Never expected someone to finally talk about their perspective on Lab Rats after, what like, 6 or 7 years. I really wish Elite Force ended on a high note. They didn’t need to necessarily have to pull an Endgame Final Battle, but at the very least, they could’ve done one more season or at the very least, give us roughly 6 to 8 more episodes for a 24-26 episode length for the existing season. Have Leo and Adam return, and maybe even have Eddie return too (he was hilarious). Also, i kinda wish we got to see Janelle more, mainly because I enjoy Madison Pettis’s acting. EDIT: Didn’t expect to get this many likes in less than a week. Love making perspectives on shows I watch and glad you all love it. Thanks so much you guys! 😁
I really missed some of the Disney Channel shows, Lab rats being one of them and others like: Kickin It, Shake it up, Suite Life On Deck, Austin & Ally, Mighty Med, Pair of Kings etc. All these shows have a special place in my heart since I grew up with these shows.
The fact I only hear Naruto when the principal speaks makes this way funnier for some reason, I was already aware he was voiced by her but the fact she acted in this and I really had no clue is wild
I FOUND MY PEOPLE! Lab Rats was my childhood (I was kind of old (15) when it came out but still) I loved it and no one else around me knew about it so I was alone on this one back then. A few fun facts about the show and me as I have seen some people do this in the comments: - A couple of years back I remember finding out about Billy or William Unger having a kid. It might have been only me who did not know this, but he was a teen dad (16 years old) and his kid was born while recording I don't remember if the first or second season of Lab Rats which is crazy because nobody (or at least me) knew he had a kid back then. He hid it pretty well I think. - The episode where Adam goes underwater before he even knows he can breathe underwater still haunts me and the whole Marcus thing as well, at least from what I remember it wasn't normal back then to blatantly talk about such a sensitive topic on a kid's show back then. Yes, it was mentioned, like x character had a parent that passed, but it was rarely (or dare I say never) shown on a show before (or at least that I remember, I might have been too young to understand it before). But the Adam thing sacrificing himself to save others was ugh devastating for me back then idk what is wrong with me, sorry. But this not only happened to Adam, there was a chance of losing one of the characters constantly. Not only that but more serious topics than what used to be talked about in Disney shows back then (it is now more normal, but it started around that time, at least from what I can remember) Like a character losing an arm? hello? That never ever happened before on a Disney show. Mighty med was kinda like this too but it doesn't count because it started after lab rats - I still vividly remember watching the episode promos on RUclips because I was watching it online as not from the US, and I wanted to be up to date and was watching it as it came out in the US and not when it was released here (the episodes had to be translated and dubbed, so it was delayed) - I'm still mad about the abrupt ending in Elite Force ugh. I know it is technically another show but still. I even signed a petition to finish recording it hehe Oh and an extra I once was on a trip (inside my country) while obsessed with this show and had a server who looked just like Hal Sparks (Donald Davenport) and I kept staring at him, Poor guy he must have thought I was crazy. Either way, thank you for this video! I really like your humor and storytelling so I had a great time!
Bro I literally don’t care but I want to know the ending of elite force. At least publish a comic or something, disney literally let us just sit. Also can you share the link of the petition?
I like this review because it’s not about hating on a show or reading too much into a sitcom. It’s recognizing the efforts of the people who made the show.
Okay wow I can’t believe this is actually a 3 hour video but I really appreciate the time and work you put into these videos. I love how informative, nostalgic, and entertaining your videos are! Keep up the good work!
I remember watching the pilot as a little kid and being very confused as to how it was ok that Mr Davenport had these HUMAN CHILDREN locked in his basement and it was ok just because they had powers. Like at first I thought that they were robots that he didn’t know were sentient but no, they were kids that he adopted and then locked in his basement
When I was a kid I used to think Davenport was actually Leo's biological father, I never saw the pilot so it was just never explained to me and I never questioned why Leo called him 'Davenport'
okay but if douglas did the alphabetical names for everything. how many androids did he go through before he got to marcus?? did he really go through like 9 androids before one worked? is that why he barely cared about marcus dying? cause he already lost 9 androids before him and just kept makin em?? what weird n name tech creature did he make between marcus and otis (bionic dog)?
They're probably different types of boy and not boys because he originally wanted to named Adam, Bree and Chase "Big Boy, Not A Boy and Little Boy" respectally
looking at the time travel episode where leo finds out he's married to janelle in the future, it feels like he both thwarted his chances of marrying her and caused an endless stream of bad luck for her in later episodes, simply by *knowing* who he's married to. intentional or not, it's a nice foreshadow for how bad things are gonna get between them
@@PedroGoncalves-en8qp Mistake or not she was still irreversibly hurt by his actions and his reckless need to prove himself. Even though she forgave him I don't think that's a strong foundation for a romance, especially when you consider what happened with Janelle.
"I have many layers. I am very dense." and "I have an itch to crush a dream or two. Who's gonna be my ointment?" are genuinely brilliant lines. I actually laughed out loud.
When I first saw this pop up in my recommended I thought “3 hours?!” Then now that I’m half way through. This is great content! And I realized after 5 minutes we were getting a run down of the *entire* show.
principle Perry is the smartest character in this universe. she manages to get around all of davenports crazy security and has avoided the police for god knows how long ALL WHILE HAVING AND BEING DIRECTLY INVOLVED WITH DONALD DAVENPORT. and has a surprisingly good memory. overall next level chad! always on that sigma grind!
To why Leo could've survived the falling debree, Leo was in a pocket under it. Leo is smaller than any of the lab rats, so none of them would've fit in that pocket and been able to survive.
Actually i found out the reason extras don't talk in this. It is because the more lines an actor says the more money they must pay the actors, so they made the extras silent because they save lots of money they can spend on sets, effects ect.
Highlighting all the morally awful things everyone does made me realize what a creepy dystopia it is. I mean, it’s essentially about child abuse and neglect and child soldiers so 😰
The only adult action on this whole show was Douglas giving Daniel away (and Tasha). All the rest was irresponsable, stupid and Donnald taked the kids from his brother to avoid them becaming child soldiers just so he could make them child soldiers and that it's dumb.
Also the Marcus plot annoys me sooo much nowdays. Like I can understand evil Douglas don't seing him as a human and so never treating him like one but he should've changed his mind and all that. Weirdest redemption arc ever (I still like Douglas cause I remember finding him very funny as a kid)
I think that’s why I liked it. While I was at home getting abused and didn’t realize till age 10, lab rats was my favorite show. It was the only Disney show I looked forward to after school.
I remember getting into this show around the beginning of the second season, and I actually stuck with the show until the end of Elite Force. And for those wondering, Elite Force ended on a cliffhanger where the main villains ran amok throughout the city and Douglass was presumably blinded by Chase's girlfriend who- guess what- was a secret agent working for the bad guys. We never see them defeat the main villain of that series. Kind of an empty note to leave the series on.
I know!! I still enjoy this series besides it being weird. It still makes me laugh & wish they did continue Elite Force. I liked Mighty Med too & seeing those two come together. I thought it was cool. Sadly not a lot of ppl watched since Leo & Adam weren’t in there anymore :/
I don't think Bree was in the wrong for removing her chip and quitting being part of the team. But she was most certainly in the wrong for destroying her chip. If she didn't destroy it, Donald could've recruited someone else to take her place on the team. And, destroying the chip just makes it so that if she changes her mind, as it was kind of a rash decision made in the heat of the moment, she can't take it back.
Destroying the chip did give a sense of finality and gave the show a reason to bring back Douglas. Simply reinstalling the chip or Donald making a new one by the end of the episode may have been seen as too easy a solution once she has a change of heart.

You should do a mighty Med one that show was interesting
You should re-watch lab rats bianicle Island

Leo saying, "LIVING IN MY BASEMENT!" is so iconic that him saying living on a bionic island sounds so unatural
I know ! It just sounds so... meh. The original intro made me laugh because of the delivery but the new one is just him stating where they are.
He should’ve been like “Not in my basement?”
@@Nimodog19 Yess. If the intro was "'Not in my basement ?!" it would fit in more with leo saying it. He sounds so... defeated, numb ? idk.
@@boomerangswingsbothways
At that point he was bionic himself and used to them

You mentioned the weird bit where extras aren't allowed to talk, and I'm reminded of that one joke from Victorious where the teacher wanted something from the main cast and one of them asks "Why do you keep having us do this?" and the teacher replies "Because the other kids don't really talk. Like, at all." and another one says "Yeah, they just kinda sit there and... react."
That line is so good
What episode is that in
Edit: this is my most liked comment!!!!
@@DinoRicky I don't remember. It's been at least a decade since I've seen it.
Yeah, I remember that
i think the whole talking thing has to do with extras having to be paid more if they have a speaking line. if they don’t have any lines they just get the regular pay

I'm glad someone finally noticed how incredibly unfair the writing was to the character of Marcus, the guy had every right to be angry and was clearly looking for a father/mother figure (as you can see calling the villain "mom") . Douglas is an abusive father and he came out of all of that well.
I like Douglas but I’d want revenge on him too if I was Marcus for leaving me for dead and never bothered to reconstruct me.
I wouldn't call the writing that it clearly showed he was not the best father.
I dont think he was abusive, they had pizza nights afterall.
But yeah, I don't think I'd care if they didn't blame him and not Douglas.
marcus's eyebrow raise has to be his permanent resting face because that guy is doing it in EVERY scene hes in, even when he's just standing behind someone
RIGHT?? LMAO

he 100% got the role after doing that in his audition. it's campy and cartoony. perfect for that show.

I have a feeling that that was improvised and if I'm right, it makes it a million times better.
Leo clocked on to that shit immediately
He really does just narrow his eyes and clocks Marcus as a bitch. it’s great. It made Leo a funny protagonist and solidified Marcus as the target of all my vitriol as a kid
Loved that part. He wasn't taking any of it and knew exactly what was happening. Straight to the point with some sass. Leo was great in that show.
Don’t forget when Austin and Ally turned sonic boom into the Austin and Ally Music Factory.
a hope to keep the series i think
Hannah Montana as well
Zack and Cody had a more permanent status quo change with a brand new show that had them on a boat so they could commit crimes in international waters

“the writers never had a chance to develop teen girl personalities so Bree’s just playing roles based on what they’ve seen on tv” fify
Uuuh, death of the author…. They might be smarter than they seem… yadayadayada… yeah that sounds cool her personality was a facade that sounds cool

I did see a tear in bree when she saw chase, look closer
@@samueldembela9154 okay I’ll give her that singular tear, but she was still much much more sad about Adam
Even if Adam screws up, she will still stick up for him. He is somehow favored by Bree over Chase
Probably because she believes chase can save himself, he's super smart but she thinks Adam can't because he's dumb.
Agreed
I 100% agree. The rivalry between Leo and Marcus was one of my favorite aspects of the show, so when Marcus came back I was fully expecting a big final rematch between the two, but then it was ruined for a joke that wasn’t even that funny.
That made me so mad. I didn't watch lab rats as a kid, I binged it during quarantine and it was great. Marcus is one of the best sitcom villains and I really wanted him to have a proper fight with Leo but they did Marcus and Leo dirty in the end.
Fr
Even for a teenage girl, I thought she came out looking schizophrenic.

Exactly! I always thought she was a bit of a girly girl, but she grew up around guys, so she might not always know how.
They sort of did it with Dog with a Blog when Stan was revealed publicly for most of the last season

I still can't believe that this guy escaped despite the horrible things he has done. Personaly I consider him big Karma Houdini.

It’s funny to me how Chase never thinks to use his molecular kinesis in times when it would easily help.
The comicbook-like energy is the most charm of the show. Although, it would be great if they handled more mature themes.
I'd pay money for a serious reboot. They could throw in episodes and moments that finally addressed the messed up things Disney glossed over

Me too!!! Made me so confused too!! Angry and confused!!
Bro he saved almost the all most recurring characters a bunch before he became a mentor as well
They gave him powers just when the other three got promoted lmao It's like the writers are afraid of changing this dynamic
That sounds incredibly amazing, I’m so incredibly disappointed we didn’t get this

I think it's very dependent on the context. Sometimes I thought it was funny how the extras were always interrupted when talked to
Iirc the law correctly, the moment an extra talked, they are upgraded to an actor immediately.

@@businessduck3900 Adam was kinda trash if they just got leo it wouldn't have mattered
I watched like the first episode of elite force, but they removed some of the best characters. Mighty med and lab rats were good shows on their own, and they both took a sharp decline afterwards.

big facts. that was actually the last good show on disney XD

Holy shit same, this show was my childhood.

I couldn't get over how much I loved the name Bree as a kid.
I personally couldn’t watch past the first couple episodes of elite force because it just wasn’t a good show
@@lunko1736 agreed but i think mighty med is a good show better then lab rats porb
Just a really well delivered and directed scene. Chase was off-screen for a long while as well
I love how the only way Marcus' actor is able to attempt to make him look threatening is by making a 🤨 face but all I can hear everytime he does does it is the vine boom sound effect
Wait nvm I just got to the part in the video where you mention it lol
It looked dumb

I FOUND MY PEOPLE! Lab Rats was my childhood (I was kind of old (15) when it came out but still) I loved it and no one else around me knew about it so I was alone on this one back then.
A few fun facts about the show and me as I have seen some people do this in the comments:
- A couple of years back I remember finding out about Billy or William Unger having a kid.
Mighty med was kinda like this too but it doesn't count because it started after lab rats
- I still vividly remember watching the episode promos on RUclips because I was watching it online as not from the US, and I wanted to be up to date and was watching it as it came out in the US and not when it was released here (the episodes had to be translated and dubbed, so it was delayed)
- I'm still mad about the abrupt ending in Elite Force ugh. I know it is technically another show but still. I even signed a petition to finish recording it hehe
Oh and an extra I once was on a trip (inside my country) while obsessed with this show and had a server who looked just like Hal Sparks (Donald Davenport) and I kept staring at him, Poor guy he must have thought I was crazy.

To why Leo could've survived the falling debree, Leo was in a pocket under it. Leo is smaller than any of the lab rats, so none of them would've fit in that pocket and been able to survive.

Probably they died because they were stuck there for too long. they could have starved to death or other bad thing could'v happened.

Actually i found out the reason extras don't talk in this. It is because the more lines an actor says the more money they must pay the actors, so they made the extras silent because they save lots of money they can spend on sets, effects ect.
Plus any sounds they make might be picked up by the boom mic.

Highlighting all the morally awful things everyone does made me realize what a creepy dystopia it is. I mean, it’s essentially about child abuse and neglect and child soldiers so 😰

@@Mr_Nobody2512 He developed and gave them normal lives eventually 😔
Not many people stayed on i think
I binged the series when I got Disney+ and was so upset at the end, I waited through a season of meh plots for a cancelled show?!?

Wasn't elite force two shows in one 3 from mighty med with Bree and Chase from Lab Rats?
Bree destroying the chip was a vehicle for Donne to suck it up and allow Douglas back
@DisealBitches
Bree is a mess, mentally, her complete emotional manipulation back and forth was well in character
