This PS5 was DROPPED | Can I FIX It?

- I picked this PlayStation 5 up from off eBay for £220. It was sold as Impact Damaged and that it had been dropped with the HDMI cable inserted, directly onto the HDMI port!
Let's crack this open and see if it's just a HDMI problem... I mean, will it even power on?
Hope you enjoy!
Steve

Loved the "Do you want a playstation 5?" "Yes, please," moment.
The speed of the reply was as fast as the dialogue in Gilmore girls
So polite.
I've melted at that.
Yes, nice polite young lady 👍🙂
Accurate @@joeh5315
That "yes, please!" was the most adorable thing I heard in a week. You're the best dad, Steve, bless ya and ya family
That's a really cool present for your daughter.
You're awesome
The fact you got a faulty ps5 from Ebay with a genuine honest description is incredibly rare. Congrats
not to brag but i got a ps5 disk and series dirt cheap with hdmi port damage and only that and fixed them both and been running for a year now. maybe luck
@@GeoJad very fortunate
Mate my ps5 turns of after about 30 mins of playing a ps5 game I’ve cleaned the inside but I haven’t gone further and done the psu or whatever it’s called
@coreyblakee332 chances are the heatsink is full of dust
If you have it standing upwards could also be a dry spot on the APU.
@@Trippy86117 I have had it upwards since I got it I’ve had it since release pretty much but yeah it’s defo fucked need to try get it repaired I’m waiting for the ps5 pro and will purchase that lol 😂
"Yes, please" too cute.
"Yes Please", What's it like being the best Dad in the world? Love it.
I learn from this channel I've ended up fixing stuff broken in the house that would have been binned thanks keep them coming.
15:38 - best repair video I've ever seen. I hope she gets as much joy from this repair as I have!!!!!!
What even happened inside that thing, a rave?!
Steve just watched your latest vid on your 2nd only ps5....just a little bit of advice nxt time and from now on you should put it in to safe mode b4 opening...luv ya vids and comedy keep going strong and SOLID...LOL
weirdest gender reveal yet.
@@ThumpertTheFascistCottontail 😂 😂 😂
My guess, foam party
@@keithhayter7791 AND he should put back ALL FOUR screws in the pressure plate 🤦♂ - I wonder how long it's gonna take for him to fix THIS little mistake?? smh
Another great video, since I retired as an electrical maintenance engineer of 45 years I find it strangely relaxing to watch someone else pull electronics apart and repair them, keep up the good work, my blood pressure thanks you 😗
I love the black dots next to the relevant screw holes. Genius idea!
2:10 there clearly was a kids birthday party inside this machine
😂 must have been!
I'm wondering if it was a birthday present that never made it past the party. As Steve mentions it's factory reset right at the end.
@MrCode4money perhaps but the amount of dust on the fan would suggest otherwise
@@f1zzdux yeah good point. Interesting.
@@f1zzdux OK it was a kids party but the party was held inside a tumble dryer lint catcher. It's simply deduction, really.
Looks like the Gremlins had themselves a good party between the case and the system. Balloons, sweets and the like.
Still have no idea how a balloon got under there! Really strange! 😅
@@StezStixFix Ballon, white powder-like substance.. don't like your fingers, though i am sure you won't after seeing inside there..
Your daughter sounds like a good kid and you're an awesome dad
Steve, your "leaded & unleaded mix" comment gave me a flashback to the mid 1990's when I half filled a friend's 1985 Fiat Panda with unleaded petrol by mistake, then switched realising it should have been leaded. She got rid of the car not long afterwards. Great video as always 👏
I do the same thing, only my daughter is much younger, so the enthusiasm was greater, priceless.
That HDMI solder went back like magic!
2:31 "I don't understand how people do this to their consoles". As a father one word: kids.
Tbf the party balloon stuck to the inside of cover is a dead give away.
As a father of daughters, I thought that was a very sweet moment.Cheers ❤
The balloon hidden in the PS5 was most likely a container for contraband. Please be careful Steve
Amazing videos as always
My thoughts exactly, very common spot to stash stuff in.
I've learnt so much from this channel. Right now I'm on with fixing a jet wash.
I've fixed one of those bins with a motion sensor.
I've replaced a phone screen.
I'm on the lookout for a KitchenAid mixer.
It's not the fix, it's the confidence of let's have a go.
I haven't been able to get a cheapo console but I've got the spare ports ready for when I do.
WELL, I didn't expect to see THAT inside there.
Tried this fix myself today…top tip when you tin the port connections you only need a tiny, tiny, tiny amount of solder!! Burnt my finger also…and there really is a million screws 🤦♂️ This video helped a lot though, thank you 👍
I’m amazed over how the sweets and balloon actually even could * mimicking Steve* Get in there!
Job well done, my good sir! And what a great gift to your daughter!
Cheers from Sweden!
Sucked in by the fan?
I took apart a PS5 that was overheating. Man you got to have the ability to organize your workspace with taking one of these apart. Different length screws with different thread pitches. It sucks
Definitely a device that one of those handheld electric screwdrivers would be justified for if you were having to repair these all the time.
Yeah, I do have a Bosch one somewhere, but I need to get some T security bits for it! 😊
New to your channel, but can’t get enough of them. Great content, and very sweet daughter response. You make the incredibly complicated seem very simple!
Well done! Your Daughter will be pleased! :D I'm totally stealing the Term "Devil's Juice" for Liquid Metal now, by the way!
This was an awesome episode, and I'm sure she's gonna love that console! Ironically, one of my twins loves watching this channel and has started to take things apart to fix them. However I can't get him to put things back together yet...
The Cat looks concerned.
Who else likes the video before watching knowing it's gonna be a good vid?
Steve never fails to crack me up. Thanks bud.
Them balloons get everywhere. Love this channel. Proper internet. Ta Steve.
Love your vids steve. Liquid metal-cotton bud soaked in ipa. Use it to group together the liquid metal, suck it up with a syringe. On both the die and heatsink. Then you can see the full extent of the oxidisation. Clean that off with a fresh cotton swab and ipa. If the oxidisation is too bad to remove with that i use 6000 grit sandpaper to remove the rest. Re apply the original liquid metal and respread it on both the die and heatsink. Job done. Hope that helps
15:39 YES PLEASE.
Good job on the repairs, most people don't have the knowledge of equipment you have 🎉
Awesome Steve! Obviously we have no idea if it works or not! 👍
😂😂
Hi Steve, nice video as usual. I’m curious about the monitor you’re using in the video. It looks really handy. What brand is it and where did you buy it?
Greetings from Holland.
Yours sincerely, George.
Came to the comments wondering this same thing!
many years ago i tried to fix a vhs recorder when i got it open the little kid had used it as a garage for his tiny cars, this looks like a kid has been allowed to play with a £400 ps5 this world never ceases to amaze me !
Well done, another successful fix, more importantly, earning dad bonus points. Top man.
Nice! I love all your videos. But it’s particularly cool to see you get a PS5 up and running. Great work as always, sir.
You & Vince are my two favorite channels here on YT. Thx for the entertainment, Steve.
Proper fan cleaning = vacuum cleaner and a brush. And as a bonus you don't inhale all those nasty particles.
Really enjoy watching this fella, Steve! Great sense of humour, entertaining, gentle manner, good at his job. Would be interested to know his training and his real-life work, and maybe a run-down of all the tools he's got, and so on! Come on Steve, you're a youtube celeb with nearly 200,000 subscribers, so tell us a bit more about yourself!
This is my favourite StezStix Fix? video, 8 can't tell why but it's spot on!
So funny, we all know the response you were hoping for (as anyone watching would too) and then 'yes please.' 😂 bless her she was probably thinking 'is this a real offer? Play it cool, play it cool' 😂
😂 yeah, it wasn't the reaction I was hoping for! 😅 maybe she didn't believe me 😅
Sometimes you just don't wanna know what people are doing to their electronics. A balloon inside a PS5 👀
Great video.. It is really great to hear the word solder...not sodder
Excellent work fella! I really recommend not spinning the fans up with compressed air or a blower / hoover - fun as it is (both for cats and dudes), they can self destruct at the speeds that generates!
Very beautiful manners from your daughter, do you want a ps5, “yes Please”, awesomeness right there, and you didn’t melt no plastic”55” days wow, going for a world record here.. keep up the great work mate, never stop being you, and keep them raps coming, very talented. 🤙🏼🇦🇺
Joe from Australia 🤙🏼🇦🇺
Fun doing HDMI connectors! I additionally normally wick the anchor points so they are clear of solder, place the new connector on, apply los of flux, push down and solder pins. Once you're happy connector is on level and pins married up and soldered, solder the anchor points ;-)
Good job. As for blowing out the fan like that. You can destroy fan pretty easily cleaning it like that. Should put your finger or something in it to prevent it from spinning and then spray. :/
Congratulations on the repair job. She's going to get a lot of fun out of that:-)
i like how steve, joey and steve tronicsfix all made videos on fixing ps5s within a day of each other
Brilliant Steve. So happy your daughter got an unexpected present!
Nice work.. i had a console repair shop . LOL,,i found candy as well and lego bricks etc inside several times when complaining their ps2 would not load disc. changed a lot of lasers and chipped all ps2 series . and same back in the VHS time so many toys and items inside to find
cotton swab and 91 - 99% is isopropyl alcohol to clean up the oxidation from the liquid on the APU and heatsink. The use the dry side to rub the same liquid metal back on the system. Sony provides more than enough on the the PS5.
Great job though. Loved the video
Really enjoyed this fix and your daughters reaction lol to stop the Vince moments just tw sticky backed magnets under the cup and on the tray job done lots of painters do this to help stopping the turps going everywhere on the work table
Hi Steve,
I'm a recent subscriber and I've binge watched about 30 of your videos in a row. Great channel, lovely bit of entertainment and vicariously living through your electronic-fixing wins. The rap and the music are lovely added bonuses.
Keep up the great work from Matt in Bristol.
I do like the little screen you used, what a great idea if you're pushed for space!
I think you should call the liquid metal paste the T-1000
So interesting to see you working.
Always a good watch but particularly enjoyed this one, song, fix and spoiler on point!
Lol excellent, good faces, great craftsmanship. Please consider rewilding your garden? Hedgehog shaped holes in fence, trees, small wildlife pool, shrubbery, wild flowers, etc. Up to you of course!
Hey you got this, the force is strong with this one
Love all your fix it vids. You have come a long way. May I suggest you buy one of those small plastic squeezy bottles with a thin metal tube on for your IPA. Saves keep knocking the cap over! You can also get ones a bit like ink wells that have a press down top for soaking a cotton bud in. Again, saves keep knocking.... you get the idea :). Keep up the great work.
Ive doe a full teardown and cleaning of a ps5. I put it all back together to realize the front IO was disconnected. So i had to dismantle the thing and do gymnastics to get it plugged in without removing the metal shield. Didn’t want to disturb the Liquid Metal.
fair play to Sony for using the gallium mix, hands down the best thermal conductor
it is your best hdmi fix so far. ❤
it was such a pleasant surprise at the end to find out it works. 😁
You have my favourite fixit show!

I certainly hope you didn't allow me to cyberbully you about your music. You shouldn't let the internet dictate your life, bruv. I really do enjoy your content and have already learned quite a bit from your fault tracing procedures etc. I'm South African, I also enjoy tinkering with electronics. I almost gave up after seeing how small components started getting, then you showed up on my youtube with your microscope. They cost about £50 here, definitely getting one A.S.A.P. Anyway keep up the good work, have a good evening, cheers.
Nice repair mate many thanks 😊
You have to scrub the dry spot from the APU die and the heat sink until you can easily spread liquid metal on them, not just cover them up.
Low melt solder for the big earth pins before heat gun.
13:36 ...very nice poker face, steve...
Was totally stumped as to if you managed to get it working.. 😄
Don't let fan blades spin while cleaning/dusting them, normally theis matters most of the fan is still plugged in, as to not create voltage in the system it's plugged into, but even while not plugged in it also places abnormal stress on the motor for the fan
Nice Keter Shed mate! I have the larger version, because I live in Nantwich.
Cracking fix Steve.
Finding a water bomb type balloon inside a PS5 is possibly the strangest and funniest thing I have seen in some time. Even if the system had been broken, what a great story you would have had to tell. 😂😂
it's recommended to avoid spinning the fan blades with the force of the air duster to avoid bearing damage.
I have 2 solder fume extractors, one of the big..ish.. ones and a small one with a hose.. I use the hose one for actual solder fumes and the big one for dust
I used to work for PSN Hardware Support. The number of calls I had about damaged HDMI sockets was quite impressive. I don't know exactly why, but they DO seem to be unusually delicate. I mean HDMI sockets in general are terrible, but the PS5 ones seemed to be quite easy to damage. I think a lot of it would be eager hand fumbling around the back of the console and trying to shove the plug in without looking... but still. Anyway good repair, maybe get some d-Brand plates for the case if it's a little scuffed? :D
Good shout on the plates! Yeah, the PS5 ports seem to fail way more often than the Xbox counterpart! 😮
According to TheCod3r, who repairs these all the time, the early revisions used a very weak HDMI port, and they use a much stronger port in later revisions.
That rap was really dope my friend! And congratulations for getting a relatively cheap PS5!
The feeling of fixing something is priceless 😂 f*cking awesome ! Subscribed!!!
Love your videos! Glad to see you got that thing working! Also, love all the custom tracks lol!
Is there any chance of detailing the iron/hot station temps & roughly how long you’re blowing for (depends on the man, Madame…), in the descriptions?
For those of us who do this sort of hobby rarely, it’s a help.
Keep up the good stuff!
you’ll be pleased to know that there are several vibrant colors and styles available for replacing the PS5 console covers.
Steve, please, please get yourself a filtration unit for the room in which you work. If, for no other reason, to ensure that there's less dust, but also so that the smoke, etc., that sometimes results from your projects has much less chance to build up in your respiratory system (along with the dust). As someone whose dad worked as a fireman, I can tell you that it's just as important to have protective equipment like filters as it is to perform the job. We all want you to take care of yourself!
stepping up your game steve {writing before watching} .. ps5 is a nut in itself
2:30 I've never cleaned any console I've owned, but then I've never had to. I have no idea how people get them so dirty 🤷♂
Bro your patron bars are hard really really love this channel ❤
dont ever let the toxic trolls get to you, youre awesome just the way you are. i love your vids.also youre supposed to use the special qtip that comes with the liquid metal. i think the qtip will leave cotton threads
Fixing impact damage can be pretty risky business as it could mean part of the bga under the apu was ripped off. Great video though.
Also, you don't need to mark the screws with sharpie, they're already marked on the shield, anywhere you see -O-, you don't put a screw.
Ah, thanks for the tip!
@@StezStixFix Sorry, I was rude, having a bad day, but it was very well soldered, congrats :)
I love your channel! It has inspired me to try and repair old stuff myself. I have no idea what i´m doing, but i´m having a ton of fun
1.13 in and it came on! It's just the hdmi port, I feel it's gonna be a good buy! 🤞
Nicely done Steve!
