I was raised and live in Nc now and there are alot of these kind of stories and also ones where people are trying to find someone that they are talking to and be in the same place but neither see each other. I seriously believe what my Granny used to tell us that there are spots here in our state more than anywhere else in the world called 'inbetweens'. Every one of my older relatives have stories about these places. I never took much thought of it and always said they were telling us this to keep us from going to certain places or to scare us to not sneak out. Until my brother, who is seven years younger than me, had an experience in a strange part of the road in our area. He was walking home from a friends house one day which was about a mile down the road and called our mom to let her know. It looked like rain so she said she would go get him. There was this one cury spot on the road that always gives you a weird feeling when you pass it. He was on the phone with Mama the whole time she was going to get him. She got to the spot where he said he was and he was not there. He couldnt see her and she couldnt him. She thought he was playing a joke on her and she lost the call from him and after about 30 minutes she came back. We spoke to all of his friends and they said no he really was walking After about 4 hours he was walking into the front yard.. He thought he had only been gone no more than 15 minutes but it was actually 4 hours. True story I swear! He was not playing or pretending it was for real. His watch was 4 hours off from everyone elses.
Somebody said something earlier that reminded me of old legends about the "Little People" and now I swear every story I read gives me little people vibes. Stories like these are very common in both the Americas and in western Europe. Cultures in these areas usually associated these occurrences with small trickster beings that were known for causing disappearances, confusion, and bad luck.

I'm in Delaware and there's a lot here too. The woods where I grew up is a big one. There's a lot if stuff in there and idk what's going to happen now that they tore half of it down to build houses for the rich transplants

The part about the "shower curtain" was odd xD. If I were an investigator involved with that case though, I would want to absolutely scrutinize that "shower curtain" in every way possible. It makes me wonder if you could analyze the specific material it was made of and then use that to potentially narrow down where/when it was manufactured? And by what companies? Hmm, maybe they still have it locked in some old evidence room, guess I'd doubt that though. They probably tossed it without thinking about anything weird going on as discussed here.

I’ve spent my whole life living in the Appalachian Mountains. Mainly in the town of Big Stone Gap VA, but I have family in TN, NC, and WV. The Appalachian Mountains hold many, many secrets, and I doubt we will never figure them out.

As someone from the mountains of NC. There are lots of really old abandoned cabins way off in the middle of nowhere. Behind my fathers property, about a mile through the woods there is a old bridge that has no road, its collapsed but if you walk the main beams to cross and make to the other side... There is a long abandoned one that sounds a lot like this one. Lots of cool stuff there. Like really old candle lanterns made out of what looks like brass.

I grew up and continue to live half an hour away from Roan Mountain on the TN side and I have never heard this story told with more detail and eloquence. Very well done sir. ..and I'm here to tell y'all there are a loooooot of strange stories from the top of Roan Mountain

Most of the stories I've heard are second hand. Pretty much like any other isolated area, folks can get into some weird stuff. Mostly the rumors of occult activity and such but not much to worry about if you stick to main trails and recreation/camping areas.
@@bmw328i8 the hiking is spectacular. This area has numerous hiking trails from super easy to advanced. A main trailhead entrance to the Appalachian Trail in nearby Hampton is also a fabulous area to hike. Lots of hostels and other hiker-centric businesses nearby as well. Enjoy
When I was a teenager me and my friends attended a church camp in the mountains of North Carolina. we were old enough that we were allotted chunks of free time during the day to explore and hike. Me and my friends, maybe 5 of us go into the forest and just walk and walk and walk- we had gotten deep into the woods and were off on an incredibly small trail that seemed to not get a lot of use. And we were far away from any other campers or people, which is saying something because there were hundreds of teens at this camp. I don’t remember if we actually wandered off of the hidden trail or not but we stumbled upon a strange, round wooden cabin that was up off the ground several feet like it was on stilts. Of course being asshole idiot teens we immediately thought- screw whoever’s cabin that is’ privacy : let’s go inside ! We walk up the steps and peer into the window, it’s a very small cabin inside and there doesn’t appear to be anyone in there, at least from the open space that was clear from the front windows. We tried the door, it was unlocked and easily opened. We go inside. It is perfectly neat and clean, there’s no clothes or personal belongings or photos around at all. There is furniture and a neatly made bed but it didn’t really look like someone was living or even staying there… it almost looked like a hotel room which had been reset and cleaned by a maid. We’re all standing in the main room for just about a minute now when i can tell the other kids are wanting to go look in the closet and beyond the several doors into other rooms when I notice something: there is a very small lamp on a small table in the back of the room, and it is on. I freeze. I tell my friends : that lamp is on, either someone was recently here or they are currently here. Why would a lamp be left on 24/7 in a cabin isolated in the middle of the woods if no one was staying there? It wouldn’t be. I felt a sense of panic- this wasn’t a feeling like we had accidentally intruded on someone’s property. This was a bad feeling… like we shouldn’t be here or someone bad was going to find us soon. I convinced my friends to leave and we all ran out and far away from the cabin back to the main trails. No other campers had seen or even knew about this cabin and it wasn’t on any of the camp maps or anything… like it wasn’t supposed to be there, and like we weren’t supposed to find it. Anyways that’s it but I still think sometimes who tf was in that cabin in the middle of nowhere
That's really a really experience. Glad you trusted your gut feeling? It wasn't your property anyway, even if you weren't necessarily breaking and entering.

I live in the mountains/foothills of North Carolina probably about 40 miles from Roan Mountain. I grew up playing in the woods and I’ve seen plenty of “strange stuff” If you have hiking experience and want to hike our mountains……….don’t go. If you have no hiking experience, don’t go! These mountains know us and will generally protect us
Sorry hit wrong button………….sometimes strangers suffer a different fate. I don’t know why. It’s a wild and strange place and not the place for beginners. Be careful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
there are rules you must follow, when you are in the woods, here are some:
- Never enter buildings in the woods
- Never go towards the sounds of screaming
- Never climb up the staircases
- When you feel the tree line’s gaze, do not acknowledge it, and get to safety immediately
- No sudden movements, do not look like prey
- Never go into the woods alone, always bring a friend and stay close together
- Leave before it’s dark

As someone from north Carolina there is random cabins and barns all over the place that are old and abandoned
True. Sometimes you find just a chimney in the woods as the only remaining part of a cabin.
I would avoid those places like it was piranha infested waters.
I would say like the plague, but we've all seen how that was treated over the last year.

Any state has random abandon cabins and barns. North Carolina is not special.
Strange things definitely happen in forests. I grew in the middle of one and myself and all of my friends by the time we grew up, and left that place had A LOT of creepy stories about sightings and even hearing parties at that would stop like the push of a button when you entered into the tree line where the sound was coming from, just to start back up again when you left... i myself heard those partying noises for most of my childhood and assumed every summer it was just some random teens. Until my cousin and i crossed the field and hit the tree line and it just... turned off like a light switch, TWICE. We went back to our camp, heard it again, went back to the tree line and it just stopped dead. Again, like a switch was flipped. CREEEEEEEPY SHIIIIIIT!
I have since looked at the area on google maps and i still can't tell where it could have possibly come from without us seeing them or walking in their path. The voices even interacted with my cousin who shouted out, and they shouted back...

I just discovered these videos, I'm retired and live alone and this is a great way to occupy some of my time. Mr. Ballen is an excellent storyteller who really connects with his audience. I look forward to reading many more of these really interesting stories.
You probably won't see this. I just wanted to say I appreciate your kindness to the family who requested you remove the other story. It's not much to us to enjoy these creepy tales, but I'm sure for that family it means everything. It shows your character as man being respectful of the people who live these "stories". Makes me love you even more!

the cabin has to be real because how else would he have found a curtain to use as clothing? Did he just find a window in the middle of the forest and take its curtain? I think not
I don't think anybody is doubting that the cabin was real, they just can't explain where he found the cabin/how they missed it. Could be as simple as he walked much farther than he can recall, or as strange as walking into sort of portal into a parallel universe where there was a cabin and then returning somehow. The first option is the most likely of course.
I guess a random third option could be that he found the curtain anywhere else (RV, trash, whatever) and his addled mind concocted a cabin story. But the coincidence of this happening to someone else around the same time is what makes it really weird and for me kind of makes the idea of a parallel universe more intriguing than it would be otherwise.
They could see where the curtain was made. Is this story really legit?

There is a cabin on roan mountain, it's close to the summit. I stayed there one night when I was thru hiking the AT.
Ironically it's like we got 11 new stories to binge again, to be honest it worked out for EVERYBODY LOL!! My favorite RUclips channel by far is Mr Ballen. I know everyone above and below this comment agrees. Thank you 💪🏾

I believe the cabin story. Over 40 years ago my 4 teen friends and I were walking out in the country where no houses were close, but we were super familiar with the area and hiked it for years, and it was around 2 miles away from home, we came upon a cabin that had never been there, it was visibly old and frightening to us girls. A few weeks later we go back, we couldn't get it out of our heads, but it was completely gone, only the remaining overturned tree was there that had been in the front yard. 3 of us are still good friends all these yrs later and still remember it clearly.

Had a really weird similar experience with one of my friends while we were hiking. He just walked away from the group while we were all yelling and screaming at him. We had to call the authorities also and they couldn't find him where we had last seen him. He was found a day later and didn't know why he abandoned the group. He also said he heard something following him in the woods and he just closed his eyes and started praying while something that sounded bipedal circled around him.
How did that end
@@cheriep2959 the sherrifs found him the next day walking on the highway. He didnt have a reason as to why he walked away from the group. He said he thought we left him cause we were in the water with and then we were just gone. It was really strange cause he was not himself when he walked away from us and because its a hostile environment to get lost in.

@@kellymcdonell9687 i kinda wonder if it was a black bear or mountain lion that was checking him out. It could also be haunted slightly. I have found many civil war era bullets and arrowheads in the river and hill near it. Just have to wait till the first frost to go explore that area. Mainly because the cotton mouths, copperheads and rattlesnakes. They are every where on the hill side and a land mark i named God's Stairs is on that same hill side. I always find peace in all the chaos. Most of the reptiles, fish, and animals seem to understand my intentions. That im just passing through; ive only had to run three times in about 30 run ins with black bears, bobcats, mt lions, reptiles, and the unknown/paranormal.
Ahhh, been there. You get laughed at when you say something bipedal that was heavy enough to be a small horse ran up on you.

Imma tell you one of the scariest things I ever read in the comments. Not me...
"I'm a 21 dude, home from school.. So my kitchen faces my enclosed yard. You can only access it through our street to street rear garage which was boarded off due to a renovation. The other way is a breezeway along the side of my house. I got up around 315a to get a drink. There wasn't any cups clean. So I decided to wash a dish. I just happened to peep out the window. I saw a man in black with a black hood. Face could've been painted white. Idk it was dark he was staring up at my window. I put my head down and looked up again after a long sigh and pause. He was standing in the middle of my yard and he put his finger to his mouth like Shhhh. I dove to the floor. I crawled to the kitchen door. It was locked. I ran through the dark and checked the front door. Locked. I began going upstairs. And there was a super loud inhuman shriek and glass breaking outside. It woke up my Dad, my 19 yo bro, my 15 yo bro both stocky dudes. And the 4 of us looked out Front. On our porch was our last name plaque ripped off the wall and unknown broken glass on top of it. Nothing was missing to break made of glass. I told my dad and Bros what had happened. We all slept in one room. The next Day a sheriff was knocking on our door. A neighbor called and said on their way to go run they saw a man in a black hoodie, black pants was peeking in our front window at 630a. Nothing happened since. In July it will be 11 months"
I listen to him when I go to sleep, I just found the channel 2 weeks ago. I have bad dreams and nightmares regularly, but I do know one thing, my ass will NEVER go cave diving ☠️

These are truly some weird stories. It sounds like they're getting possessed by something or there's a house in a time slip or alien abduction. I have no idea. So, so many possibilities of what could've happened. Truly eerie, it makes me scared to go out into the wilderness which sucks because nature is absolutely beautiful.

I recall hearing another story you shared about a boy who said he was in a cabin having dinner with some man. Yet his family who had searched for him, told him that there was no cabin. And the loss of time was another issue. This story is very similar to that one. Possibly a glitch in time. I’ve read many stories of accounts that are so similar. Usually the person thinks they were gone for a short amount of time, only to find out that the person had been missing for a few days or even a week. How could a cabin in the woods, where he acquires a bed sheet, be a hallucination? Whenever I hear about people being found with no memory with no clothes, or in this case, a bed sheet, I think there may have been foul play involved. That's really scary!

I have an older dog on Heart Meds n he takes water pills twice daily causing him to have to go out in the back yard to pee often, n every night while I'm binge watching Mr. BALLEN every night I am now afraid of going out at night. 1, 2, or 3 a. m. , I sometimes see shadows or hear strange noises that I never did before n Mr Ballens frightening TRUE stories run thru my mind every single night n I can't stop watching all his videos. Dude I'm on such a binge watching your videos, earlier I was doing dishes(no dishwasher) and I just felt so vulnerable, like I was being watched. And I swear I could hear your voice narrate, "and unbeknownst to him....", really spooked me so I left the task for a later time.
Love that you’re doing this. My home town is 15 min from The Roan. Spent many a day in those mountains. We went for school trips often. I’ll never forget going one year in May. We had on shots and T shirts and when we got there there was about 5-6 inches of snow. We were all out having a snowball fight in shorts and flops.
We used to go to the rhododendron garden with our iron skillet and cook a big breakfast for right on top of the mountain. I still see the fog and it was soooo cold! Thanks for the memories

I mean, most his videos are about old stories, this one is probablu really emotional and is really recent for them. They probably don't want to be reminded that their love one had disappeared and someone making a video about the theories of what happen when they themselves are still chocked.

Probably so. We had a really good one. Mrs. Brooks. 9th grade through 11th. She read us The Hobbit. And had us re-write the U.S. constitution from scratch. Including amendments.
There was a child who went missing and said they were at a cabin with a lady who told them if they wanted they could stay forever. The kid said they wanted to go home. Surprisingly they were allowed to leave. When the child was found and they brought rescuers to where the cabin is supposed to be it was not there. But the child new the path and there was no way they were in the wrong place.

Yeah, the most likely explanation is something supernatural or aliens. I doubt the kid made it up or dreamed it, or that the kid just made a mistake and didn't know where it was. That's just too unlikely.

The Appalachian mountain range is the oldest in the world. NO sea fossils have ever been found on them meaning they have never been under water. Mt. Everest has sea fossils at it’s summit. I grew up in Asheville, NC. There are countless tales of some really weird shit in those mountains, some of which I personally experienced. But the mountains have a stunning beauty and will always be home to me.

Dude, I have lived in the Appalachian mountains all my life, and sea fossils are all over the place, even on mountain tops. And we had a thriving salt industry a century or more ago, because ancient oceans left huge underground pockets of salt water. Natural gas drilling always taps into these oceanic remnants, so brine tanks are common at natural gas wells.
I won't go into a lot of detail as I've held my experience for a long time now, but I live in TN not far from Roan Mtn and we used to go ride atvs over there, although I didn't just get up and walk off, I got lost but I have 100% experienced this cabin and all and when I seen this story it brought back all of the feelings and emotions from what happened to me. The way you tell stories is badass.
I live about an hour or 2 away from Roan Mountain, it’s a beautiful place especially at the summit. A year ago I was up there hiking after a snow storm no one was nearby, I was 4-5 miles southbound on the AT and my dogs and I heard a woman’s voice from behind a rock but nobody was nearby.

It's those crazy Sascabins, whole log cabins that move and wandering the forests, they lure unsuspecting hikers into their living rooms (bellys) and then chuck them back up a few days later.

A life long friend and I had an experience walking in the woods at night at his dad’s property. Standing at a known landmark for a few minutes talking we took about 8 to 10 steps towards the direction of a hay barn on top of a small hill. There was a flash of light and in a split second we were at a spot that we shouldn’t have been at. We walked fast back to his house and looked at the clock and we lost about 1 and 1/2 hours of time loss that to this day we cannot explain.
Something similar happened to my husband growing up. He and his brothers and the neighbor boys were plYing capture the flag, with my husband's driveway being the meeting spot. They all decided to meet at 5 p.m., my husband and his group showed up, and waited for an hour but the other group never showed... when my husband went into the house, his older brother who was leading the other group cam in about 30 minutes later and asked "hey why didn't you guys show up?" My husband said "we did! We were there for an hour, and you guys never showed" his brother said "we were there at 5, you weren't there" and my husband said "NO...WE were there at 5, waited for an hour and finally just left because we didn't want to wait for you." Turns out both groups showed up, but couldn't see eachother, like they were in different realities or something.

Growing up in the Appalachian mountain range from the Smokies to the Blue Ridge and all through the hills of Tennessee and North Carolina as we call them, many Skeptics will disbelieve that there ever was a cabin but I can tell you there are cabins out there that people can walk within fifty feet of and never see. And even some of our major tourist attraction areas in those mountains still have areas where nobody goes. A lot of our folklore and legends many say they are just myths or scary campfire stories. But a lot of us locals and old families that have been there for Generations still say there are some things that you can't explain and happens within those hills. My family line is rooted deep in those beautiful mountains goin back to days that historians cant even get the correct history. And usually nobody listens. But to each their own opinions. And that's why our region has so many disappearances that can't always be explained. Those mountains hold secrets. Roan Mountain and black mountain and mount Mitchell and Chimney Rock and Devil's Courtyard up on the Blue Ridge and Linville Gorge are embedded deep into old folklore and old families and Native Legends. All are major tourist attractions but yet all are also notorious for many many disappearances and things that have happened that can't seem to be explained. And most of the Unexplained has either happened to people that are not from there and just visiting or have just recently moved there and don't know the local region. But I guess that's what makes it so attractive.
I do believe chosen ones and often children are allowed into the places that noone else can see and are offered to stay forever...because their future has a terrible pain... but if there's is a good thing to come out of u being in the 'seen' world , u go back and are considerd brave...
Kinda like seeing the oracle in the matrix movie. Something so familiar but at the same time in a magic and secure fortress..even though appears normal from inside to the kid or ' lost one' There's something like an optical illusion or chameleon type structure that makes it safe.

I live in Appalachia, and vacation on Roan every year, the old TVA cabins. These are creepy in their own right, creepy and wonderful. Nice to see a story here about this area.
@RAMBO JOHN J The cabins are the old cabins - modestly renovated, that the workers used to stay in. When we first vacationed there I noticed the walls in each cabin hold pictures of the workers, some of whom never left alive. The interiors are dark wood, and the grounds are well kept but austere. You really get the feeling this was the experience of the workers. It’s just a great setting for someone like me who loves to tell ghost stories.

The curtain was real. Therefore it is completely impossible for it to have been a hallucination. I would have collected that curtain as evidence. And with all of our technology today, I would have it forensically tested.
Probably would have returned the same results as just a normal curtain. He could have found it abandoned in the woods, I guess, but it was certainly worth a try.
There was no secret cabin but there was an abandoned house which the cops did find near where Larry was located. Not sure how this very real house, seen by several people, turns into a creepy, non-existent cabin. He also was not found by other hikers. He walked up to another house which did have people living in it.

I was on Roan Mtn last week. It’s one of my favorite places. I will say Ive camped and hiked there alone and I’ve felt a presence but it’s always just seemed like a spiritual place to me. The cabins are all at the base of the Mtn and it would be a hell of a hike with no clothes from the top. The rhododendrons were blooming last week and it was beautiful!
That is a good point. I was thinking it was one of the hiking shelters, but perhaps they were too far below the top of the mountain.
