I made a kobold artificer. He just crafted sun goggles or "bright blockers" and yeah. No more sensitivity and it fits role play and logic wise. My DM is very kind for allowing it.

Awesome. I like cavaliers, and adding a kobold to the mix would be great for roleplaying. Unique for sure, and would be a character you’d remember.

I have a kobold Battle Smith I'm gonna be playing tomorrow who's Steel Defender is a suit of power armor. Took Mounted Combatant, +1 Half Plate as the first infusion, +1 Longsword with the second infusion, and a shield. That's a 20 AC and my Defender can impose disadvantage once a round. I also took the Shield spell and Absorb Elements. They also have Thorn Whip as a cable gun that drags enemies away from soft targets. His backstory is that he is on a pilgrimage to prove his strength. His tribe requires anyone who desires to move above their station to leave the tribe for five years. After this they may return to challenge their leaders for a title.

So don’t know if anyone has brought this up and correct me if I’m wrong because I love the concept, but a lance is probably not a good idea for this build if you’re trying to use pack tactics to negate sunlight sensitivity. Reason being the range you attack from with a lance will almost always be greater than 5 feet meaning pack tactics won’t proc from your mount since it isn’t close enough. If you do attack from within 5 feet you run into the same problem since the lance has disadvantage attacking targets within 5 feet of you mounted or not, so you’d still be forced to roll with disadvantage in sunlight and lose your advantage if not in sunlight. Pole arms in general don’t seem to be your friend for kobolds if you’re planning on using your mount to proc pack tactics instead of teammates.

Kyle Cianciola it would be a normal. Advantage doesn’t stack and neither does disadvantage, when they are added together it’s always a normal roll even if you would have two of one and one of the other.

The problem I'm running into while playing a gnome Battle Smith/Cav is movement happens at the end of your turn. So for melee every time you have to move to hit you have to hold action to attack which means you only can attack once that round. Of course with a lance you have reach so if you position yourself to prevent moving that could help. Not as much of an issue with your range build bc you can just shoot then move.

This is a good idea. I had been thinking of a way to play a Kobold because I like their character style, it's fun and interesting, but they are super weak, this is a fun idea.

Kobolds have been my favorite race since 3rd edition and I love to play them whenever I can.
I would love to make an artificer, though he would most likely be the alternate artificer homebrew made by Kibblestasty. It's incredibly well made and has been tweaked for years now.

Super late, lol. But I'm playing a kobold ranger/rogue/cleric (level 10 5/4/1) He's got tinted goggles to remove the sensitivity at the cost of his darkvision while they are on. So he switches between em at night they come off. Being a kobold is such fun!

I see a lot of tables going with tinted goggles or something similar. Good to hear kobolds are getting some play!

@@RollingWithAdvantage indeed. Seems like the most hassle free way to mitigate the sunlight sensitivity. I asked the dm to remove my darkvision while I wear the goggles. Makes it an even trade, just pop them off at night and such.

Grorl I think that’s actually a really solid idea.

My brother is playing this build. Rides around and shoots things on his defender. The key is to get him with saving throws and incapacitate/restrain his mount. Also, difficult terrain and pitfalls are fun

I play the fuck out of kobolds. In my opinion it’s the best race for any class that makes attack rolls.
Sunlight sensitivity only sucks for all of the places DMs don’t put combat encounters in. Indoors, caves, night time, forests, cloudy days, planes of existence that don’t have a sun, this is where you get to shine.
Don’t forget to be best friends with the rogue or gloomstalker ranger in the party who also like darkness.

I made a artificer Kobold mounted on a Mecha Steel Defender,
it's really fun to play with him.
now trying to make a barbarian / Fighter kobold, or Fighter / Barbaro.
    Just for being funny too.

I love playing kobolds so much. My current game I'm running has a whole crew of kobolds working on the players ship.

I never considered a kobold character at all! I love monster races but kobolds have just always flown under my radar cause they never featured in games I’ve played or DMed.
This build sounds fun though! I have been kind of brainstorming a a lizard folk cavalier with a giant lizard mount but I haven’t figured out if the giant lizard would make a very good mount.

I almost always play humans, but my last two characters have been a tiefling and a gnome, so I kind of see this kobold PC as my logical destination :) What's deeper than kobold builds in the layers of snowflake races?

I have a rock gnome battle smith, lvl 6. All my stats are 12+ with my int being 20 (I rolled really well). I have the mounted combatant feat and use a lance/shield. My lance has a +1 infusion. My dm hates me, and all the other players think im OP. Example. At the time of the story We were fresh lvl 5's. I have an AC of 19 and a +9 to hit.
While adventuring, we were ambushed by approximately 9-10 Kobolds. My party, consisted of a wizard, a cleric/rogue, and a rogue, and they were instantly surrounded and incapacitated by the ambushing kobolds..
My rock gnome was also 'surprised', so he couldnt go, however...the steel defender I was riding was given very specific standing orders to protect me and my party no matter what. And since Steel Defenders cannot be surprised in combat....my DM ruled that it would be able to react to the ambush by moving into position and using its rend attack; it dealt max damage to the kobold killing it haha.
End of the surprise round/Top of the turn, i had rolled a good initiative, higher than the kobolds. I had 2 surrounding me, 3 surrounding my wizard friend, and the other 4 engaged with the other two party members. I risk a single AoO from one of the kobolds, in order to get out of the "negative" range of a lance, in order to give me advantage on the attack. Using the steel defenders reaction, i forced the AoO from the Kobold to have disadvantage, and it missed. Attack 1: I killed the Kobold in 1 hit with a near max damage attack (1d12+5 (int) + 1 (infusion)), dealt 17 damage to it. Risked another AoO, from the second kobold; it would have hit, however I use my reaction and cast Shield on myself. My DM sighed. Second attack I also hit, doing around 15 dmg, killing the second kobold. I then moved to my currently paralyzed wizard friend, and ordered my SD to rend one of the kobolds that had surrounded him. Killing it.
i managed to kill 4 kobolds before any of my friends even had a chance to react.
The story plays out the same as u would expect, i literaly killed 9 kobolds as a Battle Smith arty using a lance and shield (party forced me to spare one, to interogate), while all 3 of my party members were either paralyzed or bound. My dm and players all laughed and said, "yep, OP." with the DM commenting how no group hes ever campaigned for has won that encounter, the kobolds were using non lethal attacks to paralyze their victims with the intention to capture them and bring them before their master. (most groups getting captured during the initial ambush, due to pact tactics and paralysis)
Ironically, we still ended up going to the kobolds Master, just at our own pace and leisure. The master didnt take well to a single warrior killing 9 of his subjects.
    I have a new found love for Battlesmith's :P

Why play a Kobold through Adventures League and his name is gold tooth the druid yes I'm a druid this is my first time ever coming back to D&D since 3.5 and I wanted to change things up so I went I'll go with kobold. They allowed it so I built a character around that I gave him two in strength so he has eight in that. his dexterity I pretty much kept the same so that's a 16 his intelligence I put out a 10 his wisdom I boost up the 16 and his Charisma I boost up to 10. Also his Constitution is 14. I went with Druid of the lands and went with mountain as my land that I choose. I'm still playing this character and he is surviving a lot one of the Feats I gave him once he hit Level 10 or was it 8 was defense duelist send two uses a Rapier that is a finesse weapon allows me to use my proficiency modifier to boost up my AC. My roll in the party is pretty much keep everybody alive wow Penning down the enemy with my more powerful spells and since I went with a druid wisdom is my safe they're all pretty much along with some of my dexterity. So most of the time I'm doing some good damage while also keeping my players alive. Now like I said when I first hop back into the game I didn't really know a lot of the stuff that I could have been but so far this little guy is been through a lot and has survived a lot and I'm going to plan on keeping him alive a little longer. If you want to know more about the Pacific kobold I made just go ahead and ask.
