    This man's defense is just impeccable. I'm not a boxer but he is the only person that inspires me to box. Not for money, but just for the hell of it. Peace to James Toney.

      He is not out of shape as one might think as a matter of fact he is in very good boxing shape for a heavy weight just to let you know it's impossible for any one to spar that many three minute rounds and be out of shape.

    • @koneking2569
      @koneking2569 8 лет назад +5

      +Tommy Robertson Yeah but he could of been in better shape, he was in pretty good form for a boxer cardio wise at cruiserweight but he had shown signs of fatigue in the later rounds.But his cardio was never bad but I think he could of had improvements with more road work etc. Toney was so relaxed and picked his shots so well, that he never wasted any energy...the biggest form of fatigue in sparring is muscles tensing up and becoming stiff, Toney is one of the most naturally relaxed boxers I've ever seen. it's pretty amazing how fat he got and how well he was still able to move, retain speed and have good cardio.

      There’s in shape road work ,bag work and pad work etc.. then there’s fighting shape, toney has done countless rounds over his career, and he has that threshold where he can be on the couch then go spar ( wouldn’t be so sharp but I bet he could do 6-10 rounds 100%

    I agree with all you're saying but, I think all you said after "You gotta understand" demonstrates why I don't think its real fair/valid to look at boxing and MMA as the same sport. Again, no disrespect to boxing (I'm an MMA guy myself) because certainly a BJJ guy would be destroyed in a boxing match against a boxer.

    I fought a mma fighter in the streets and I knocked his ass out clean, not only did I knock him out, but I did it by slamming him, and never not once stepped into a cage it trained in mma.....my point is, in a street fight, it's 50/50, you have to be a fighter to know what I'm talking about, I'm from south Florida I lived in the Miami area, mma don't mean shit to us, especially when street a fighter can knockout a mma fighter

  • @jtwidmer
    @jtwidmer 13 лет назад +1

    @DestroyerAlexandros oh, boxers are incredible athletes! I would agree, the best. But I don't think that makes them better fighters than mixed martial artists, not at all. Also keep in mind, a boxer can put your lights out but a MMA guy isn't gonna throw a leg kick with his chin stickin out. Again, I just think this shows why the 2 sports are so different from one another.

  • @jtwidmer
    @jtwidmer 13 лет назад +1

    @DestroyerAlexandros I agree, strikers are becoming dominant, but MMA striking and boxing are to me, two very different things. Again, just because of what you have to defend. Plus consider the glove sizes, that makes a big difference as well. As for going at it again, not in a match you won't, you lost. Going again would the same as Manny's sparring partners going again. And a concussion can easily, easily come from head kicks and knees as well as GnP.

    @DestroyerAlexandros I'm not sure how applying textbook boxing disables an opponent from doing leg kicks and elbows or knees, all of which any 250 lbs guy can do with no problem. I'm not at all stating there isn't a lot of legitimacy to boxing, of course there is. But, as shown in Toney v Couture, or Art Jimmeson v Royce Gracie, MMA and boxing are different enough that bringing strictly the techniques of one to the other doesn't work.

    dregon people can't speculate that Jones used steroids, they can say with certainty he did, he failed a drugs test against Richard Hall in a lightheavyweight title defence. Jones is an all time great but so is Toney, don't forget Toney was dead at the weight against Jones, too.

  • @neonblack88

    @LegacyHernandez yes over 50 percent of street fights end up on the ground with 5 dudes standing kicking the shit out of you while your completely helpless and your BJJ does nothing. Its usefull against 1 attacker, how often does that happen? Boxing is just as usefull.

    @DestroyerAlexandros I disagree. Obviously Boxing is part of MMA, but thats like saying hockey and baseball are the same because they both use sticks. I'm not denying that you're correct in the similarities, you're of course right. but when we compare the two it is I believe stupid because while boxing is part of MMA, its a different style of boxing to a point that its almost not boxing. Defending kicks knees elbows take downs, fighting from the ground etc make them different enough imo

    Roy is great athlete who went out of his way to not fight anyone tough. And HBO gave him all the exposure (AND MONEY!) to do it! Fighting ex-cops garbarge men you name it. He juiced up to fight Ruiz at HWT and and had to go off it to fight tarver at LHWT. It drained him and he was never the same. R.J got KTFO by Tarver and by HANDPICKED journeyman Glen Johnson . Toney (NOW 41) still hasn't been put to sleep by anyone and can still fight great. Where's PETER & RUIZ NOW? Nuff said

    i agree on the archie moore comparison, but dnt agree tht he whooped rahman, rahman won the first 2 rounds(very tight) nd theres no doubt tht p4p toney much much better fighter than rahman, but rahman deserved to win first fight, and made an ok strt to the second fight, the cut put him off a lot, due to the headbutt. but still james toney is a ring ledgend, and the forgotten man in boxing. wat a great fighter he is.

    @DestroyerAlexandros I'm sorry, I'm not sure I'm following what you mean in your first sentence "Kickboxing or BJJ do". I'm not trying to be smart I'm just misunderstanding what you mean. And sure, you'll punch much harder, but in sports, thats why they weight classes make so much difference. If we're talking street fighting, thats a whole new ball game. And I agree kicks are risky for big guys, but, leg kicks are devastating and easy for anyone to do. (hang on character limit.)
