      So pussy? Got it 😂
      No seriously as someone who spars a good bit I hate counter punchers they wear on your patience.
      That’s how you beat them though. Easy technique is to “steal” rounds. Don’t let them cut the ring off keep moving. At the end of the round with guard up get close and hit them with some flurries. You need to be careful but most counter punchers like to fight on the outside obviously. Most don’t want a close in fight which makes them less likely to hit you with power shots. Also most counter punchers are rhythm fighters you just have to figure out what disrupts that flow. Usually getting inside and clinching can do that.
      A lot of counter punchers win because they simply have more patience than guys of other styles. They get us to act like idiots out of boredom or nerves. If we don’t than it’s easy to win lots of rounds.
      So yeah styles and weaknesses are more a clash of personalities.

    • @clevelandwilliams5922
      @clevelandwilliams5922 Год назад +11

      @@mikehatten5738 The key to any martial art of fighting techniques is to adapt and evolve to the opponent. While your in the ring it takes study & observation of how they fight. Then as a good fighter, developing a strategy to deal with it is key.
      Being aware of your fundamentals and weakness is key to this, a lot of heart and focus won’t go a stray. If all fails, then be prepared to have a good defensive attitude. Timing is an attitude. Anyway it’s always going to be hard.

    Natural talent. Imagine if he'd trained properly and kept his weight down.

    Growing up watching this guy in his prime, these young fans just can't get it by watching clips or fights after the fact - those of us who knew boxing just KNEW we were watching an absolute throw-back legend.

    1 of the most skilled boxers I ever saw. Toney never held the arms of an opponent. Nope, he defended with head movement and upper body movement. He was also accurate and had excellent timing. Maybe he was 30 or 40 pounds overweight near the end of his career but a former middleweight champion defeated several good heavyweights just with slick moves and accurate punching.

    There's a lot of questions to ask when studying and analysing Toney's style; one Q that's gotta be at the top of the list is "How the hell did this guy get that much fight IQ"?

    Gotta love the James "Two Tonne" Toney phase.
