Every boxers scared to go to a cage so they challenge mma guys to boxing matches now, know theyll win.. credit to tony though. Because no matter wat he had the balls to step in the cage and was a GREAT boxer and a legend... but its just that, in boxing.. As far as actually fighting. James said "Fat, sloppy and scared. yeah, you tell 'em I said that". And I agree, he is a legend and second only to Mayweather jr. on the shoulder roll/ Philly shell. You could be on top oh him and swingin' with everything you got, and you still couldn't hurt him. If he conditioned as well as he did everything else he would of been top 5 all time at every weight he fought. As it is he held belts 6 times(one was taken away) and I think he only got knocked down once in a ton a fights. Definitely a legend.

Always loved to watch James Toney back in the day, James Toney was a skilled fighter on the front or back foot and had one of the best chins in the game!
Toney's relaxed style especially under pressure would fool many fighters into believing he was easy to hit, When Barkley tried to bully Toney and trap him on the ropes, Barkley spent most of the time hitting Toneys shoulder and elbows, While Toney skillfully slipped and rolled Barkley punches, and peppered him with upper cuts; and fast body to head combo's coming from all angles!
James turned the tables many times on fighters, using his on point defense and inside game smarts!

When the boxer in this video throws the left hook his right forearm becomes parallel to the floor and slightly below the chin. That leaves an opening for a counter to the head, body, or combo (body/head maybe left hook body left upper cut combo).

I keep seeing comments that James Toney is a legend. He was not a legend but a very good fighter that always lost the big fight. Just like people always say Miguel Cotto is a hall of famer but he lost every single big fight in his career. I respect James Toney would fight 4-6 times in a year but he was an above average good fighter and that's it. My man Montell "Ice" Griffin beat him twice.
