- Heavyweight contender James "The Beast" Wilson recently took to social media to post video of himself learning some signature moves from the legendary James Toney as the boxing world is on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. You don't want to miss how he looked. Check it out!
I understood everything that he said and the most important thing he said was. “95 percent of this game is relaxation.”
Shout out to the legend James Toney, keep living champ...💯✊🏿
"Don't forget to breath" - Saw it on a movie once
COVID-19 PANDEMIC he was one of most composed fighters of this generation probably only second to Mayweather. Do you even understand boxing ?
@COVID-19 PANDEMIC 🤷🏾♂️ lol
He was only teachi g the basics
...I think James Tony would of made Tyson's life very difficult in the ring.
James Toney is a living legend. One on of the most skilled fighters ever
Hands down!!!!
Skilled boxers ever Not fighters.. he lost against an actual fighter lol randy ufc... got yo start correcting this crap. And After tony lost. Every boxers scared to go to a cage so they challenge mma guys to boxing matches now, know theyll win.. credit to tony though. Because no matter wat he had the balls to step in the cage and was a GREAT boxer and a legend... but its just that, in boxing.. As far as actually fighting. Id put at least 80 mma guys as better fighters than any boxer...
@@CraZyCatZDogZ bruh LMFAOOOOOOOO
He was 160 lbs when he knocked out klitschko in sparring. Thats why freddie roach says he's the most naturally talented fighter he worked with.
@@CraZyCatZDogZ a lot of this is pure bullshit. Most of the time, mma guys want to come to boxing for the payday and that's it. Boxers do what they do because it's just their sport and the really good ones will always get paid more so there is no need to switch.
"Fat, sloppy, and scared, yeah, I said that"
James Toney 2020
James Toney is a legend. Love to see he's still part of boxing.
Thanks for the subtitle cause bruh sounds like a Slur went out drinking last night.
Lights Out is smarter than I thought he was
did he call him fat sloppy and scared? the fighter?
James said "Fat, sloppy and scared. yeah, you tell 'em I said that". And I agree, he is a legend and second only to Mayweather jr. on the shoulder roll/ Philly shell. You could be on top oh him and swingin' with everything you got, and you still couldn't hurt him. If he conditioned as well as he did everything else he would of been top 5 all time at every weight he fought. As it is he held belts 6 times(one was taken away) and I think he only got knocked down once in a ton a fights. Definitely a legend.
@@hansbraun2726 he didn't say "you tell'em" it's at the 0:35 mark

That last one to the side had snap 😂😂
I was thinking the same thing.. Toney would kill a big muscular guy like that in the ring
🤣
I felt my own gut when he landed that body shot lol
James Toney was masterful in the pocket, one of the few to perfect the shoulder roll defense
This is exactly what James told me back in 2015!! Word for word!
Man I miss our talks!!

I was just watching this dudes highlights a few days ago, they talk about Loma and Canelo being slippery come forward guys but this man was on another level
Exactly, James in his prime was amazing.
He sure was.
I do think we will say the same about loma. Wont fully appreciate until he stops boxing.
All on different weight levels and all have different defensive styles. James Toney seemed to rely on the Philly Shell for defense while Canelo comes forward with head and waist movement. Lomachenko comes forward and slips, parries punches.
It just depends what you like and/or prefer. All good in their own weight and way.
The thing that I like about toney the best is that he didn’t care which side he was gonna shoulder roll. Had phenomenal counters from any side
Relaxation is key. Definitely, in case of a fight , my first thought is breath control. Those butterflies are your enemy
James toney the type of guy to say
"If you ain't goin listen to what I gotta say... get the hell out of the gym... you heard what I said.. get !"
......
Doubt it he can barely speak, too much shots to the head has given him a perm slur
Thats the type of guy adrien broner needs
@@thighssancamel8653 Broner done up!!!! He too into himself so having Toney there would be a waste of time for Toney!!!!
James Toney is one of the best boxers that ever walked on this planet. Much respect
From supermiddle weight to light heavyweight and cruiserweight he's no doubt in the top 10 all time in each of these weight classes. Bivol would get murked by Toney
@@antoinemantoux1520
He may have some trouble dealing with his Soviet footwork style. If he can cut the ring well enough Bivol is losing.
James Toney!!! What A Legend. This guy possessed more raw, natural & god given talent than just about anyone else in the history of boxing and that's real shit....
I remember James lights out knocking out then champion Micheal nunn in 1990 with that signature combination he just showed
Nawh, rambo if memory serves me correctly,l think it was a devastating left hook, not a right to the body then to head,it was a nasty left hook that Michael nun never saw it coming...
@@40streetblack79 its all good no debate either way that shoulder role set everything up that why he didn't see it coming the point of what he is teaching is movement and angles James was a well trained old school fighter
@@jonhrambro8241 agreed!!!!!
jonh rambro I’m pretty sure that fight was in 91 .. Toney was losing on the scorecards after the seventh round & Miller told Toney. "You've got to press him even more."
"Don't worry about it," said Toney. "He's not going the distance."
Toney make a great trainer
He would but he said he doesn't have the patience 😆
He definitely would but not to be funny but It would be somewhat hard to understand what he says at times. Especially in between rounds of a major fight.
James had some impressive knock outs and he was the best defensive fighter imo.

James Toney could take and has taken a-lot of the fighters to school. A pure boxing tactician with a thump. My favorite fighter, my homeboy.
Yep he schooled my favorite fighter of all time evander holyfield
@@ASSman864 Yea, he didnt get enough credit for that fight. Everyone kept saying about Holyfields age but Toney really slugged the shit out of Holyfield in that fight.
@@frizzyred1292 yea i agree. And the main excuse from holy was that he couldnt hold his jab hand up or it gets so heavy on his shoulder, i know he aint just making excuses cause he out right just quit using the jab after like round 3 or 4 and he later had a surgery on his shoulder.
Still doesnt discredit james toneys work tho nobody had an easy nights work fighting holyfield but toney sure made it look that way
@@frizzyred1292 that fight was sad kinda the way holys corner threw in the towel but it was the right call i guess. Only way for holyfield to win at that point wouldve been by knockout and he had already hit james toney with some bombs and didnt even stagger him, plus everything holyfield tried to do james toney would avoid it and just counter right straight like clock work so there wasnt gonna be no display of holyfields pure heart just powering through and landing a big 7 or 8 punch combo he usually needs for the KO (at heavyweight atleast)
So yea it wasnt as good of a fight as it could be but its holyfields fault really.
Like when people discredit holyfields wins against mike they says "it wasnt prime mike" yea well thats mikes fault for accepting the fight. It wasnt prime holyfield either by any means 😂 to me prime holyfield was a cruiserweight and still had hair
@@frizzyred1292 so yea in summary i would have loved to see the best version of evander fight james toney, i feel holyfield working his jab couldve won it. Neither guy was knocking eachother out in my opinions two of the best chins ever, it wouldve came down to decision i think.
But yea people need to give james toney his credit for that one.
Riddick bowe can hold the title as the only man to beat holyfield twice but james toney can say he made him quit, even tho holyfield would not have quit, his corner threw in the towel
Toney is the best fighter I’ve seen in my 32 years in boxing.
Damn ,,,, Toney is a legends and a super cool guy ,, met him at the Margarito vs Williams fight and his speech was so much better ... Prayers champ 🙏🏻
James Lights Out Toney... one of the most technically skilled boxers ever.
Why’re all these legends teaching this guy and we still haven’t seen him do much in the heavyweight landscape?
Is that the guy out of California, who they call the "Next Mike Tyson?"
😂 u got a point I haven't seen one fight from james only videos of him hitting the pads
Maybe they see something in him and he’s taking his time and not rushing things a lot of greats done that
Glad somebody said it. That dude ain't gonna do SHIT in the Heavy Weight division. He should consider dropping down to Cruiserweight. There is too much talent in the HW Division for him. I doubt he'll beat anyone in the top 15.
@@GreyMann2 Yup 😐
Always loved to watch James Toney back in the day, James Toney was a skilled fighter on the front or back foot and had one of the best chins in the game!
Toney's relaxed style especially under pressure would fool many fighters into believing he was easy to hit, When Barkley tried to bully Toney and trap him on the ropes, Barkley spent most of the time hitting Toneys shoulder and elbows, While Toney skillfully slipped and rolled Barkley punches, and peppered him with upper cuts; and fast body to head combo's coming from all angles!
James turned the tables many times on fighters, using his on point defense and inside game smarts!
I am so glad to see James Toney passing on his great boxing I.Q to future prospects, props to James!
Hes one of the most relaxed fighters ever!!! Cucumber cool in fire fights i love J.t living legend

James stats says James is 6 foot 245 I never seen him person but he does look bigger than Elliot mass wise not height wise. Which I think James should be about 225 I’m weight being anything over 230 is too big for him as a fighter.

What’s crazy is he perfected the Shoulder Roll FIRST. But when he talks, he sounds like he GOT HIT EASY! 🤷🏾♂️ IJS
I think he has an autoimmune disease. Most of them affect the mouth and speech and get worse with bad diets.
He still got hit after so long in the game and all that sparring
James used the shoulder roll differently than the way junior did. James stayed In range of his opponents and initiated in alot of wars on the inside fighting he did, which was his style of fighting and probably explains why he sounds "punch drunk"
He did get hit easy and he did not perfect the shoulder roll first, george benton mastered it first, then Sugar ray robinson but George benton used it better
I know someone needs make a call for the great lights out James Tony👀!!!
James toney was like a throwback to ezzard Charles and archie Moore who I've seen on tape.

CTE is the real hardest hitting force in boxing. So many of the greats are effected by it.
When the boxer in this video throws the left hook his right forearm becomes parallel to the floor and slightly below the chin. That leaves an opening for a counter to the head, body, or combo (body/head maybe left hook body left upper cut combo).

I keep seeing comments that James Toney is a legend. He was not a legend but a very good fighter that always lost the big fight. Just like people always say Miguel Cotto is a hall of famer but he lost every single big fight in his career. I respect James Toney would fight 4-6 times in a year but he was an above average good fighter and that's it. My man Montell "Ice" Griffin beat him twice.
