Great video! Roy should have continued in his pro career to develop his infighting, as you've done here. In some later bouts at light heavy he seemed to struggle a bit against brawlers and pressure fighters who got past his jab and forced him into the ropes. While Roy beat David Telesco fairly easily, Telesco's pressure style made it ugly. And, later, Glen Johnson took advantage of Roy's discomfort with pressure tactics.
Roy never had a problem with guys pressing him. Long south paw counter punchers posed a problem like Griffin and Eric Harding.. but Roy figured them out. But guys pressing Roy in his prime - which was about 15 years straight - that would be suicide.
Roy was an absolute beast in his day, I am convinced he took something out of his body going first up to HW then back down to LHW immediately, he lost his mojo and never got it back. Its sad to see him fight in small venues for pennies these days.. getting sparkled by people who never would've laid a glove on him in his prime. I hope the same thing does not happen to Chad Dawson in smaller scale, Chad takes a punch but Ward had him dancing, quite disturbing to watch actually. Hope he recovers.
Why is he even fighting now - only reason is that he does not know anything else .. and his whole identity is wrapped up in - I am a boxer . Sad man … he was literally untouchable. If it was not for that one punch KO … we would never have known what type to chin he had . Like a Cassius clay all through his career

IceJohnScully dudeee its really a honor for you to reply mann!! I have soo many questions for u!! James is my favorite fighter of all time!!! I cant believe u sparred james toney too!!!!! Did james punch harder than roy?? And i cant believe roy punch harder then nun! U fought nun when he was big and jones has to be ATLEAST 150 on this video! And i am abouts to look up that video now! And 1 more question! DID U SPAR THE HARDEST PUNCHER IN MIDDLE WEIGHT HISTORY GERALD MCCLELEAN????
ruclips.net/video/cz_qAfjails/видео.html ...this past June...
Pleasure to meet u as well, my man! I sparred James after he beat Barkley in 1993...RJ was the sharper puncher of the two but JT was very very accurate and solid, too! Nunn threw a lot, he really let his hands go...he scored a lot of KO's too but I always saw them as more of "timing" KO's and wearing guys down with that crazy volume of punches. But in terms of KO power, I didnt feel it from him. Byt, keep in mind, I was in GREAT shape for that fight and I was really motivated so that helped cushion blows, too, I am sure.
scully do you think jones style would serve well in todays welter weight division?
Roy was never a welter...but if he was Im sure what he brought to the table would be effective
9:19 is that gman sitting with srl
Yup, good eyes, A.Z.
right before the olympics so...19...

That white guys pretty good held his own.

Scully was a strong fellow, those bodyshots by roy seem to barely penetrate.
I was in great shape...but let me tell you, Roy hit HARD to teh body
your stile is froom english school right? the good old stile? im a amateur boxer with a record of 3w-0L.
im a southpaw and im studing all those boxing schools and diferent stiles (roy, unortodoxes) so what did you find more impressive about this roy jones fight?
They were strong shots...I always felt his left hooks to the body were his strongest shots...
Roy was very patient...very strategic and his power was STRONG
Roy was sharp...great reaction time...great body puncher, especially with the left hook downstairs
And ppl try to say Roy didn't have an inside game. Smh. Stupid.
Come on Scully! Cut the damn ring off!!
1. Sometimes u have to plan for later and let a guy use his legs up, man...2. at the end he was on the ropes much more...3. Sometimes with guys like ROY JONES JR. you need them to tire their legs out before u go rushing into them with their full leg and snap power intact
yeah, fighters take risks and use techniques that they wouldn't in actual competition
ROY WAS A MIDDLE...
Wait what? This guy who looks like a typical dad, sparred roy jones?
@@twatik Noooo, not your mom. It was the other guy
John, when’s the last time you had to lay out someone outside of the ring?
havent had an actual street fight since I was 14.
@@IceJohnScully thx for replying, love your channel. I was just curious seems their are so many assholes that will hear someone boxes or does mma and challenge them, I figured most boxers are careful and probably just walk away for obvious reasons. I can’t imagine the damage someone like you could do to some average joe.
Thanks for all these great uploads.
@@nickcaesar7650 thank you my man. I appreciate you checking in. Yeah I don't really see the point of fighting unless you are protecting your family. Fighting over stupidity is ignorant. Guys fight in a bar because they want to be troublemakers or whatever. Just stupidity. I don't want to hurt anybody. And I don't want to get hurt. It's as simple as that
@@IceJohnScully , glad to hear another boxer with that perspective. Getting into amateur boxing (mid 1970s-early 80s) actually changed my perspective on fighting and I avoided street fights and unnecessary conflict whenever possible.
John was an Animal 🥊
Schullyy. #ocb
SCULLY 🥊🥊🥊
Jesus is king, changed my life. If you don’t know God who died for you but resurrected know him life on earth isn’t forever ❤️✝️ God bless
4:10 Kennedy Mckinney
NO 😀
NO 😀
NO 😀
@@IceJohnScully So who is it ? 😂 He does resemble Kennedy cause he always had that `older` look about him. I do remember he was also an olympic gold medalist that same year.
@@amck72 Just a guy helping out in the gym. Kennedy definitely wasn’t there
Nah, DAVID SEWELL was wrapping up...Gerald is the one sitting next to Sugar Ray on the bench...
