- The full performance of Simple Minds appearance at Live Aid at the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, USA. 13th July 1985.
3 songs were performed: "Ghostdancing", "Don't You (Forget About Me)" and "Promised You a Miracle". Sadly, the satalite link was cut halfway through the performance of "PYAM". I'm not sure if footage of the full performance actually exists.
I believe these are the first live performances without founder member Derek Forbes (bass player - replaced by John Giblin, seen here obviously) and also the first live performances of "Ghostdancing" and "Don't You Forget About Me" although "I Travel" was performed a few times very similar to "Ghostdancing" in January 1985.
Best viewed 1080p.
I was fourteen at the time and it was the best event, ever. Mel was killing the hell out of those drums. John Giblin (RIBP ♥️🙏😎🕊️🌻) was awesome as well.1985 was so amazing and cool 😎.
I saw Simple Minds last year still absolutely amazing and I'm going to see them next year, can't wait 😁
I miss Mel what a fantastic drummer and his face during this he is so excited and because of excitement he is murdering those drums like crazy. He looks like he has some serious beef with those drums
i remember seeing jim walking around Glasgow a few times around 1981,,think he was still at art school,,,,1985 a mega star,,,and its never stopped since.
Don't You Forget About Me is the 80's anthem! It is THE song that captures our generation most perfectly!
Brilliant ,very underrated band .
They were huge bak in the day, one of the best bands in the 80s, were a brilliant stadium band
Simple Minds are not underrated. You either like them or you don’t! … Same as any other band.
@@BuyOneGetOneFree Great analysis
Not underrated.....just finished a sell out World arena tour.
Another imbecile making the “underrated” comment.
Great drummer! This is like a portal to another time! The trouble with music today is there isn't enough chaos!
Wanna go back to 1985 on an adventure of a lifetime?
Ghostdancing what a cracking song that is.
È meravigliosa davvero meravigliosa... Fantastic!!!🎵
Seen Simple Minds many a time. Live, they are brilliant. This was just a blast from the way past.
I've never been a huge Simple Minds fan but Ghostdancing is a brilliant number.
On this day(July 13) 32 years ago(1985) Live Aid. Cheers!
One of the greatest bands..and sing packed arenas to this day. Wish other acts such as grace jones..billy idol..the smiths and dead or alive were included. Times when variety in music wasnt an option
I never appreciated how perfect every element of this song is. From the tight drums and driving bass to the guitar flourishes and front and center synths. Great vocals too. No wonder it was such a hit. It's got it all.
I was a mere 12 years old when I watched the British and American events and I remember feeling so proud of our lads.....they nailed it!!!💗💯😍
Brill love it every time I here it sends gouse bumps ...
And the drummer well what can you say .
Awesome. .
Mel Gaynor RULZ!!!
Imo very underrated band - their music is so great.
Brilliant live band
Still going with some 60 million album sales alone ... amazing band!!!
@Zooomabooma THANK YOU! LIVE AID WAS PURE MAGIC!
i was there, at 15 years old
Charlie B took the Edge's delays and echoes to another level
Also gotta give them praise because the act they had to follow was Queen the band that is said to have killed the live aid show. Very hard act to follow. But Jim Kerr and Charlie burchill with their frontman guitar duo killed it.
This was a different location than Queen all together, but I get what you’re saying!
@the_minimalistic_advJim Kerr actually said a few years back.....how do you follow that....as in regard to witnessing Queens performance. The confidence in the band is awesome. To start a monumental show like this with a brand new song being performed for the first time is breathtaking......bordering on arrogance
@@the_minimalistic_adventure yes it was two different stadiums but it’s still the same. Queen preformed once Queen was done. BBC switched to simple minds live in jfk via satellite so they still preformed after them even if it wasn’t the same stadium
Impresionante. Difícil de superar esa energía. Música en estado puro!
Very brave at that time to open with a brand new song (although Ghost dancing was a revised version of I Travel)
And that was the 80s.
thank you.🇨🇿🌹🇯🇵👍☝️♥️🙏🧎
your knowledge about trading just incredible. you are the best in business
best ever
who is listening to this in 2024?
@BlueRose26071967 Yes! Of course!! Cheers!
@gullwing14 I think he forgot they had one more song. Every performer got time for three songs
@bftt2368 What a start to the journey!
Simple... U2 The Best!
I have never before felt critical of Charlie.....but he murdered the start of DYFAM
That's how he always plays it live
I was never happy with the live guitar tone on this song which is weird because on all others he sounds great
The sound quality on this vhs rip is not great but his playing sounds exactly the same as the way he’s played that song for nearly 40 yrs.
There is full 100 % full MTV . ABC , BBC video and audio coverage available . just have to look . i worked on 1 of the bootleg projects. like 15 years ago , like a 19 cd set . 4 dvd missing links set , etc etc
But on saying that - Jim's voice quality and Mel Gaynor trying to put holes in his drums make this show awesome.
wow..who are these..way better thas U2
great hogmany show lads
The promoter Bill Graham pulls the plug in PRAM. ..
8:34 basically every Philly girl I dated back in the day 👍
If jim was all about the fans, get the old band bak 4 a weekend special outdoors, derek, mick, mel, jim, charlie, a would go, do a Scottish festival, simpleminds, texas, biffy clyro, proclaimers, del amitri, hipsway, sadly without the associates, RIP Billy,
@YCSMusic Queen stole the show. U2 were great too! Particulary there performance of "Bad". However, in my opinion the whole event was spectacular anyway.
The sound sucked in the usa. Simple Minds should have performed in London and done a 17/18 minute set if SOMEONE SOMEWHERE IN SUMMERTIME, GLITTING PRICE, BIG SLEEP, PROMISED YOU A MIRACLE. THEN THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN BIGGER THAN U2
U3
Yep! Tacky event... but then, Simple Minds and U2 stole the show, however!!! If you want to divert from tacky (minus mullets),Bono and Jim Kerr WERE Live Aid!!!
I remember thinking this was the best performance of Live Aid. And then
they came out with that sh***y record and tanked... What a pitty!
The whole Philadelphia concert, in my opinion, was spoiltt by a very poor stage set up.Background clutter, dudes standing around, shit evgrywhere. Just took much focus away from the bands performing. I mean look at the la la la la la bit. Jim is just surrounded by about 10 muppets with cameras. Stage setup and presentation is important - clutter sux
U2 sucks!!
This is music and a great singer... Bono do not sing ..he just screma all the songs
Ruben Contreras Lisperguer Jim Kerr of Simple Minds begs to differ.
Simple Minds got boring after 1984.
did they ever, they were the dogs bollox '81-'83,DYFAM was rubbish and the beginning of the end.
Lame
bollox
