I was there , simple minds were great and the main man gave a speech. 30 years later I read that Nelson Mandela said that he went to a concert at wembley stadium but had no real memories of the day. One of the great days of my life and my hero had no memories ? He still remains , along with Martin Luther and Mahatma Ghandi the greatest people of my generation. we are still hoping for the day that the colour of your skin or your sexuality or your religion does not define you or seperate you from mainstream society
Went to this concert on my own at 18 years old my freinds dropped out but there was no way I was missing it loved simple minds then and still do good memories
When east at Easter fades into alive and kicking it’s goosebumps time🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🏎🏎🏎forza ferrari I was there wembley stadium,,how I miss the original and best stadium 😩
there is something beyond simple music with bands like simple minds u2 and bands like the mighty midnight oil!!dont know how to say..solemn?formal you know something is going on its important its historic!!i just love the power of it all!!
Never knew how good they were until seeing some live performances here on RUclips. Always enjoyed them on the radio but now I wish that I could have seen them in concert.
5:43 are u ready? c'mon now...let'g go ..everybody!goosebump 80000 in his hands! awesome Jim Kerr ,Simple Minds best live band ever (with Muse and U2) ps mel gaynor best rock drummer ever!!
If u2 had been there on this day,,not even they could match simple minds on this performance,,this is equivalant to pole position,,fastest lap and race win,,perfect👌👌👌🍀🍀🍀🎸🎸🎸🏎🏎🏎🏎
What an odd comment. It's not a competition, is it? "What if [enter a band name] had performed here?" What if the sun would have moved around the earth?
I love this version of alive and kicking. I never understand why they don't play the bass drum like it is hear at the beginning nowadays. it really lifts the tune. Great day.
I'd say its ALIVE AND KICKING.........and I always play this song in my Porsche and I think I am the one that has put 4,000 hits on it on youtube. What a great band and a part of my childhood. The first band I ever played drums in played this song and we always got people happy and they loved it. The 80's was an amazing time and some great music, and god rest his soul but the drummer was also the Power Station drummer and a great drummer. Thanks for posting and I have tickets to the Orlando Florida Show.........can't wait.
This blaring on the Wildwood boardwalk when I was 16 going on 25 from 2 blocks away and the smell of curly fries & funnel cake and the salt air from the beach on my sunburned face hoping to catch the eye of the perfect girl. (PRICELESS)
I can remember this day. I remember walking up towards the twin towers of Wembley - and you just knew you were going to be in for a truly great day. and it was.
After hearing Jim Kerr speak recently about the first line in the first verse of this track, “you turn me on”, I just 😂 at the opening. He says he still doesn’t like the line, he’s not Marvin Gaye 😂
Added., To latest *Playlist., This 🎤 by band, roughly 1year prior to 'Rose Theatre'89 eVent., Think *Tune here closer to *Set at 'RosieT' stage, 👍 We had 📈% *crowd 🎤 tho' 🇬🇧😘
There were loads of scots bands 80'- 90's besides British altogether wish I could go back and tell myself not to get on the bike and lose my arm in the process and not my fault but after had three children because of that I wouldn't change a thing.
Odd time ... The beginning of the end for SM.. no Forbes, no MickMcNeil, and they're just about to royally bury their reputation with the horrifically pompous Street Fighting Years - they'd never regain ground.
I agree, although Mick MacNeil is playing here and was part of Street Fighting Years. It has some good tunes on it, but I haven’t listened to it for years. I was 15 in 1988, had only been into Simple Minds for 2 years or there about, and this was the first time I saw them live, albeit on the TV. I also recorded it on vhs, and this song was warped to shit on the tape because it was played so much. Still sounds amazing to these ears.
This band is definitely a 1980s treasure
RIP the fantastic John Giblin, bass player extraordinaire.
Great to see and hear John Giblin - RIP 😢
great bassist
I agree when camera is on him 3:57 this is one of my favourite part of the video. Great player with amazing music feeling.
Love this band! One of the 1980’s best.
They are just the best band ever just so humble and there music is so unique .
There’s just nobody that can match them.
I really enjoy the set but u2 was also a great band.
Right there! Absolutely!

Excellent j adore simples minds
Brilliant ❤️🔥🔥
… don’t tell me this world wasn’t more autentique !!
If you never attended a Simple Minds concert; or a U2 concert, or saw a live performance by David Bowie in the late 80's, you truly missed out.
Bowie impacted my life in a big way, but I thought and still think Glass Spider was just dreadful. The tour footage makes me cringe.

Loved this concert. I remember watching it live on tv, in between bands the crowd would sing "How long?"(U2's song 40) and U2 wasn't even there.

Not sure why people always have to mention U2 when it comes to Simple Minds, it's possible to just enjoy both bands, it's quite easy actually.
This is the only concert that i still remember with M jackson concert that I attended.
oh his voice is unique
One of the best in music! I love his voice!
Was there, can still remember the absolute electricity when Minds came on .gives me goosebumps to this day

What date is that
Mel Gaynor never played with The power Station and is still very much “Alive and Kicking”. Think your confusing him with Tony Thompson.
@@Mike_Bacon_O.B.E. yep, I got it confused.....my bad!!!
Inesquecível
No Robyn Clark??? Made this amazing song even better. Not quite the same.
EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!
