11 June 2023. 35 years later.
I was there with my best friend and my late Mum and Dad.
What a day it was.
I was there too! Remember Sting soundchecking to Roxanne in the morning as I queued outside! Epic!
I was inside when he was still soundchecking. He wasn’t happy but the few hundred down at the front got a personal performance of Message in A Bottle.
34 years ago today me and a mate went. Where has the time gone.
Me too. There is, especially, a song sung by Miriam right before the here-chosen edit (which is of course also magnificent). Thanks for posting this. More would be fantastic.
I was there that day,Fantastic!!!
Was there that day never to be forgotten
Why only a short film, i would like to see more of this concert in good quality
The Day Mandela was fee
There is a famous song in a stadium between 1994-1996 where women and men sing for Africa I think in a football ceremony ! They diffuse this song when They talk about South Africa in African Nation cup

Back in the day we saw the advert for this Free Nelson Mandela concert, so we went along there. It wasn't free at all, he was charging Fifty Quid a ticket! Wants locking up, that bloke.

Which white man has EVER had to go to Prison for over 27years to fight for their freedom from oppressors ✊🏽
In all honestly the greatest man that has lived during my lifetime 🙏🏽
No
he was arrested becuase he tried sabotage against the government with violence and with clearly intention to destroy the state
I remember this, shame there isn't more. I was too young to know what it was really about but it was a good concert, especially Salt n pepper at the end!
Mark Knopfler looked genuinely filled with emotion.
Wann gibt's ein derartiges Konzert für Julian Assange ?
Name of the last artist 14.08
Do you have the full footage?
All ten and a half hours?
I hope Nelson hears that.

This concert was in 1988. He wasn't released until 1990. The last clip is from the follow-up concert April 16th 1990, two months after his release from prison.
Just remember - this seems to be forgotten - that one of the true victors of the struggle against apartheid was Fidel Castro. It was the battle-hardened Cuban soldiers who stood up to the onslaught of three battle corps from the Apartheid army ---and beat the shit out of the boers. That was when it dawned on the apartheid bastards, that they could not win the fight on the battle field.
The Bad World Tour Live In Wembley Stadium July 16th 1988 was better
This had a bigger impact so move on
Simple minds were amazing that day and without doubt the best live performance.....in fact this video missed out the bad that actually wrote a song for the occasion and was the first band to commit to the concert.....the rest then followed.
Just RUclips alive and kicking and watch
I think Dire Straits were up there
@@anaikgill2937 I was there mate and dire straits were great but that day simple minds blew everybody off the stage ....just take a look at the moment halfway through when the instrumental kicks in...pandemonium erupted
