Simple Minds have been musical pioneers for 40 glittering years. Catching the mood of the post-punk era, when the angry sounds of 1977 were splintering into a thousand different shapes, they emerged with a style rooted in the art-rock of David Bowie and the electronic dance of Donna Summer. This song brings so many memorable times with my ex, who is no longer part of my life, but when I hear it now, I get crushed with emotion, raise a glass and pray she is well. It takes two and wasn't meant to be. Now, I want to create new memories while listening to this song and get the strength it always has given me and a simple mind.

Dedicated to my son he was born 32 years ago and he is today a big fun of Simple Minds ...too ! It's for the same reason that Jim Kerr has written this song for his child !

It was a cold rainy november day in 1985. I was sitting by the large window in a coin laundry waiting on the wash. This song was playing rather loud on a radio. I was thinking about the beauty I was going to pick up around 7:00. I thought to myself "This is my soundtrack!"

Such an amazing song. This song popped up on RUclips music. Usually it pisses me off they do that when I'm listening to my music. But in this case I was very happy. Such a great song. The writing, playing and production. At 57 I can still move my neck!

The best song from the Simple minds... for ever the simple minds.
This song got me through some very, very dark days in the mid eighties. It’s the anthem I go to when things are tough . Like today.
My god I thought I was the only one. Don't think I'd still be around if this song hadn't been around to lift me up when I was down.
I agree got me through some rough time and im still alive and kicking.

So true! I've been lucky enough to see them a few times and it's always the same interaction. I saw Guns 'n Roses a couple of years ago (admittedly not at their peak) and there was no interaction at all, particularly from Axl. He looked bored and was only there for the paycheck. Jim and crew are the genuine article and clearly enjoy what they do and don't take their audience for granted.

Charlie Burchill makes such beautiful sounds. He makes me want more. People feel elated and inspired, that is why we sing and dance. If you had ever been to a Simple Minds concert you would understand.

Mel Gaynor pulling that monstrous string of 32nd note triplets on the snare leading into the outro Chorus just propels it to the finish. He gave them the sound they needed to define them as a big performance band- without a doubt!
