This was a right goodie of a chat. Especially the physical position of the bass while playing certain licks. As a retired circus performer moved over playing bass, it was interesting to hear a musicians side of this topic. Practicing circus and performing circus are two different things. Play the crowd! Thankee.

As an old retired guy who has played jazz for 55 years, I appreciate your efforts to support your band. But, I cannot relate to any of it. I have never attended a concert expecting or looking forward to "stage antics;" I go to listen to the music and find many aspects of performance not only irrelevant but distracting. Good for you that you're doing what you enjoy and are willing to do what the band and your particular audience expects.

It’s funny that you mentioned the interview with Marty Friedman, because in the first half I was thinking about a conversation that Kiko Loreiro had on the Riffhard Podcast, where he extensively talks about this topic! It’s a good listen for every musician!

Great video Ivan. Some former members of my band (including the vocalist) just stood in one place the whole show, leaving me the only person in the band to “perform “. We we’re good musically, but boring live. They are no longer in the band, the new members understand that part of the package is to preform

I think you get in to the 'groove' of the audience can make you perform at a different level.Get in your comfort zone.

Another great insight into your life Ivan but i have to ask what the comfy armchair is for. You aren't old enough to need that on stage 😂

Ivan, i have come back to watch this video. Since watching it the 1st time i have played my first gig. Because of this video i was very conscious about stand still and looking at the neck. Looking back at videos, i was moving about, looking up and looking like i was enjoying my self.
I am rewatching to workout the next stage. Thanks for all your work.
