Absolutely spot on. That’s pretty much the sounds I use and I’m never missing in the PA mix. When I started trying to find out why I was so lost in mixes I found isolated bass tracks from famous artists and songs. I was shocked to find that most of them had some sort of distortion or overdrive in them. Yet in the full mix I never noticed that. When I started copying they sounds, I didn’t particularly like them but when I heard recordings from our live shows I was gob smacked. Great informative video 👍
Super cool! Ivan got me gassing hard for a Quad Cortex.
Neural was founded by Darkglass, so I've found I can get pretty similar tones to Ivan with a Darkglass and a good Compressor.
You can probably get pretty close with the Vintage Microtube series and the Hyper Luminal or the Cali76 by Origin Effects :)
Makes sense, i rarley play on big stages, so I tend to push my low end. When i played a fest recently i was wondering why my bass sounded so boomy and muddy in the mix. The sound man made it work but i definitely noticed it.
This was super helpful.
There’s nothing wrong with adding some bass boost, though. The issue is that some people tend to overboost 🥲
I'm impressed, you nailed it!!!
Looking forward to watching more of your "real world" base tutorials.
Thanks! 🙏🏽
really learning a lot from you. thank you and keep up the good work. really love origin effects and cant live without it
Happy to help!
@@IvanBassist thanks you appreciate it. have your tried your dcx bass driving the bass rig?
Not personally, but I know many people really enjoy using both pedals like that :)
It dippends always in the preference sound of engineer. 😊 Specialy in foh.
thats very true!
I use the same "pedalboard thought" in my HX Stomp. Great video as always and we are looking forward to seeing that video about how you use the quad cortex in the tour 😁
Coming soon! 🙌🏽
Great video! I don't gig very often and frequently don't have an opportunity for a sound check. (And I have listened to live recordings and the sound guy is not helping me out.) I am going to try turning down bass and turning up mids. However, when one is coming up with sounds (using pedals) I create them to sound good (i.e. not in a band setting). However, these may not work in a mix. I wonder if one should apply an EQ with pre-determined settings to turn a bass tone that sounds good on its own into one that sounds good in a live mix?
I always dial in my sounds to sound good in a mix
@@IvanBassist Thanks for the reply but that's not very helpful. You're not tweaking your pedals when you are in a rehearsal with your band mates waiting patiently by? Are you coming up with your "mixes" in a DAW?
All good tones, i play pop and skate punk and I would pick #1 because of the little brightness on top 👍
Thanks! 🙏🏽
Thank you for this video, I'm struggling to find the perfect eq/tone for live gigs (how they can sound on PA, headphones, etc). thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
👏👏👏
@IvanBassist What spectrum analyzer are you using in this video ?
Fabfilter ProQ3 and the Logic Pro X native one
Very interesting. Now I know why my bedroom sound has no presence when I play with the band.
Mids
Very interesting! If you haven’t made a video about your In-ears it would be interesting to know what you are using.
Do you mean the in-ears I’m actually using or our in-ear rack system?
What you are actually using 😊

But I’m probably having some new ones made by 64 Audio somewhat soon
@@IvanBassist Thanks so much for the answer, what is the reason you want new ones from 64 Audio?
Sounds massive lol
Thanks!
Thank you for the video. I think I have slowly learned about the points you make towards the end.
Thanks for watching!
