Concerning black metal on the other hand, sure they were fundamental there, but not the only ones. They pressed more on the accelerator and started adopting satanic imagery, but still the first wave of black metal is different from what black metal has become. They lacked the dark, creepy atmosphere, had still a lot of NWOBHM/Iron Maiden sound. Go and fucking listen to In nomine Sathanas by Bathory. That's a first bite of total evil and darkness. Venom were just kinda using satanism to look like the "bad guys", nothing new with metal, just a bit more extreme. So you can't forget about Bathory and Celtic Frost when talking about the birth of black metal. So we can say that Venom contributed to create 2 genres, while Bathory contributed to one and fucking created another ALL by themselves.

So yeah Venom were fundamental to create the genre, but they were not alone.
