I’ve seen this whole show dozens of times. Never gets old. Let me also say this- the bass/drums on that show were absolutely spot-on. Pure musicianship all around, something to behold.
Albert King is a great man to take Stevie Ray Vaughan so to say..under his Wing..What an inspirational song to introduce Stevie too..And thank God for the blue's inspiring Stevie's soul to play that guitar like he does and that guitar is in rhythem to Stevie's young soul..god bless Albert King ..Stevie was the best at blue's and rock n roll....always will be remembered..fresh in my memory
I think it's all about attitude. There are some things that you can not teach. It's not about the riff - it's about really feeling the feeling of the blues. As in... pain man.
Nothing gratuitous or indulgent in this performance. They show their skills, but not to show off; they're feeling the music, which is what the blues are all about. Every riff works perfectly in the context of the song. True masters at work.
back in the 80's, in Killeen, TX , I saw Stevie play with his brother's band, at that time tey were just starting as The T-Birds, soon they became The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
@sandiegoowl that's what the blues is about, FEELING the music, and that's the key to playing it and singing it. I learned that many years ago, and have been playing harp and singing blues for over 40 years, would have loved to jam with these two giants just once!!
i hope they release this performance i have a copy of the original telecast and i got the new cd dvd set for christmas this isnt on there id love to have whatever else they didnt release
ive had a copy of the original broadcast straight from the tv for over 20 years and got the cd dvd set for Christmas this wasnt on but im glad i was able to catch it now thanks for the post this was awesome
At around 1:00 a.m. on August 27, 1990, Vaughan boarded a helicopter and what did we all loose that day.... History will tell us the sad truth. Peter Bruce
this is how he used to play, he was a left-handed but, as some others musicians, he got used to using right-handed guitars upside down. It was sure amazing
rooky2222 your name is appropriate. Educate yourself with some blues and soul before you make ignorant comments. This is SRV being respectful to MR. King. I don't think he was there to cut any heads.

Every time SRV hits a lick, it looks like the guitar is leeching his soul. Probably was. Miss you both.

The greatest svr
Saw Stevie's brother Jimmie open for Buddy Guy the second time I saw him . THAT WAS AMAZING plus Stevie's nephew , Jimmies son was in the front row!
Gosh!!! You can't get better than that!
SRV best of the best!!
What was going through Stevie's head playing with his hero. No pressure brother.
Just the best there will ever be. Love you SRV
